Lots of whispers that Trey Lance still ain't ready

How the 49ers are Showing a Lack of Commitment to Trey Lance

Trey Lance is supposed to be the 2022 starter, yet the 49ers are not showing their commitment to him.

Trey Lance is set to takeover as the starting quarterback for the 49ers.

Or is he?

There hasn't been much action out of the 49ers that would support Lance as the starting quarterback in 2022. Considering how the 49ers have operated since free agency started, I wouldn't be so sure about Lance taking over.

Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the 49ers' roster, which is the clear complicator. And the 49ers aren't tapping into free agency as a way to improve the team, which they should be doing since they have a quarterback on a cost-effective rookie contract.

This is the time where the 49ers can splurge and get wild with free agency, but they're just sitting on their hands doing nothing. If Lance was really going to take over, if the 49ers were absolutely sure, then they would be doing what they can to make his debut season as the starter easier.

The 49ers are showing a lack of commitment to Lance.

I do not believe he can be penciled in as the starter in 2022 given how the 49ers are operating. They are in no rush to trade or release Garoppolo, which would give them an increase to their salary cap space to be able to splurge in free agency and build around Lance. But they're not doing it.

If they were committed to Lance, then they would've cut Garoppolo as soon as the league year started a week ago. Doing so would signal that they are truly passing the torch and flipping the page to Lance. And with the newly found money from cutting Garoppolo they could start to bring in players or re-sign some of their own.

It's not "Trey Lance season" yet until Garoppolo is gone.

And I wouldn't be so sure he is exiting the team anytime soon. In fact, I could see a scenario where the 49ers retain Garoppolo until training camp since he doesn't have a market right now. Should that occur or start to trend in that direction, then for a second-consecutive year the 49ers will be on the fence with their quarterbacks.

When that happens, so does the possibility of riding with Garoppolo yet again.

Guess where Blythe is the starting center

I agree. Many Rams fan wanted him run out of town. I wanted him back quite badly in a backup role with commensurate salary. As a next man up he is quite a good alternative, and as he can play multiple positions on the line, he is doubly value if injuries strike. He does get blown up way too easily by the more powerful defensive linemen.
And that was my major complaint about him.

if he played against a powerful defensive lineman on 3rd and long, he would get blown back 5 feet within a second of the ball being snapped. He also couldn't move a defensive lineman on 2nd and 3rd and short.

Plus he had a tendency to OLE blocks either downfield or one on one against other good DTs.

He was actually capable when assisting other guards in blocking their assignments.

Watches

I had a Timex watch I wore when I went fishing. Had it for 10 years before the pin rusted out and I lost it while fishing. I watched it as it sank about 5 ft when this HUGE 5' Cuda saw it flashing and grabbed it. LOL I have always like to think some guy caught that fish and found the watch inside.

That was in the late 70's 5 miles due west of Oceanside. The same trip where I caught my one and only marlin when I was fishing for mako shark. 150 lb marlin on 50 lb test off a 20 ft boston whaler.

Joe Noteboom Signs 3yr Extension

I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if we do that. I'd love it and think we need an interior Olineman, like LAST year......I'm convinced that McSnead only like tiny WR's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.... (no blue font)
It's the Rams... I can't expect anything, lol.
But if it was *me*? It would be a corner or IOL. Rochell's development, which they would know best, would drive this pick. If they feel he's going to be a legitimate starter next season? I'd go IOL in the 3rd and CB in the 4th.

Hekker signs with Panthers

This has been the hardest offseason since we lost Lauranitis and Long all in one offseason.
Nah not for me. For me it was Ike, that’s when the GSOT book finally closed for good. It was like waking up from a great dream that you knew was over but you wanted to go back to sleep and recapture, but you knew you couldn’t.

I was not a big JL fan. He had his warts. I did like Chris long.

Urban Meyer Fired

@Psycho_X Meyer is all garbage all the time. I never liked the guy and hope he never coaches again. I’m shocked no player did the Latrell Sprewell get to know you choke on him.

These college coaches get to a point where they feel invincible. They are given way to much importance in their school, communities and programs (IMO).

What's more disturbing is that he felt emboldened to treat vulnerable 18 year olds that way.

These kids feel enormous pressure and likely haven't ever held a job where you'd learn how to set boundaries (retail/fast food especially is a GREAT place to learn how to set boundaries and be willing to make changes... there are umpteen other colleges just like there are umpteen other retail/fast food establishments). With these kids who likely have been solely focused on their sport (and increasingly just the one sport) including going to camps, seminars and having off-season coaches, etc... they're looking at these college coaches not just as bosses, but surrogate family.

to breach that trust and simply abuse the people around him... he's trash.

TL;dr It's worse that he's been treating college kids like this because they're not in a position to defend themselves and don't have a union where a player can take a grievance. They either take it or put their college career in danger...

Rams, Brandon Powell agree to terms on one-year deal

Thanks Riverumbbq The kid is a baller.
We always got spots for Baller's. saved our st's and hopefully
he will continue to develop as a WR. He could be the depth
we didn't have in the SB.

Most Poised to Improve Last Place Finisher

Pittsburgh?
I see Pittsburgh and Baltimore as having similarly good defenses. If both are healthy, in the short term I pick Lamar’s crazy athleticism over Mitch’s arm.

But, if Trubiskey plays his best it should be close. The Steelers are supposedly enamored with Willis in the draft, if true then they likely don’t see Trubiskey as the answer.

Freeing Up $100M CapSpace

The Rams offseason, to this point, shows that the cap situation wasn't an obstacle to accomplishing their goals. Even with the Miller loss.. that was about a 3rd year guaranteed... the Rams just didn't see that as wise.
The first year structure on all the new deals are VERY team friendly and take advantage of the expected coming jump in the cap, as many of us predicted/hoped.
I just hope they still want to be aggressive for an edge and corner.

Exactly. It was honestly just lazy reporting and wishful thinking by haters saying the Rams had cap problems coming into this offseason. Those of us who have been paying attention knew that just a few adjustments, and some tough decisions moving on from some guys would result in us being in GREAT shape.

Edge who might drop to the 3rd round

Appears like Arnold Ebiketie is a 34 D typical tweener much like Og Okoronkwo but Og was even smaller. Since more than half of the NFL runs 43 D there might not be much of a heated demand early for 34 D tweeners. This is something that I will be watching in this yrs draft to see which of the ER's will drop into our range in the very late 3rd rd area.

I was a little surprised that Og only got 3.5 million a yr if the Rams really were in need of an ER sure would seem to me that they could have got that deal done but Og had a serious dependability issue for 4 seasons If I were his DC I would prefer Og gone too.

Rams look like they will need to extend ER Chris Garrett's grooming & development due to the history of Garrett's 2021 season. CG only saw the field for 1 gm with the defense regular/postseasons.
Ebiketie looks stronger than Obo. Ebiketie plays the run better too. I’d be happy if the Rams could land him. He would fit the culture well.

I think part of the reason the Rams didn’t want to pay Obo is that Garrett is a speed rusher also and Obo gets them a comp pick. Jourdan said Obo was a very popular guy on the Rams and if they could get him cheap they’d like him back but wouldn’t compete with other teams.

I’ll be interested to see if Garrett comes in bigger and stronger next summer.

So, what do you suppose Snead is focused upon on this Ram roster right now?

What else would Les use each and every 6th rounder for?
My thoughts on your question Loyal would be:

A Heavy Duty RB that shows promise in being the last safety line in pass block protection of our QB & ability to catch las second passes from Stafford.

The addition of a very strong in line Blocking TE.

Several starting natural OG's
