We owe Jeff Fisher an apology for one thing

Ah, I see it now. I needed to divide the wins by the total games, not the losses. Doh, my bad.

---------------------------

winning % vs whiners:

Jeff Fisher: 3-6-1 (.3333)
Sean McVay: 4-9 (.3076)

both nothing to brag about, but damn ya think a better coach could figure this out after so many tries.
Fisher won 30% of the games vs the 9ers
McVay has won 30.7%
Sounds like a draw to me

2022 Offseason Staff Moves

Let's see here...

Brown was moved to TEs.
Robinson took over pass game coordinator duties.
Sample was hired for RBs.
Shula was moved to DBs and took over defensive pass game coordinator duties.
Beake was hired for ILBs.
Bogardus was moved to OLBs.

Not certain who is the Rams run game coordinator. I presume it is Brown but cannot recall if McVay has discussed this with the media and it is not listed on the Rams coaching page.

So starting with Brown the return has not been good. McVay has acted like he's sitting on a fucking diamond with Brown from day one. But is he. I am not so sure about that. Brown has been with us since 2020 and as RB coach he did not impress me. First off he allowed the team to continue on with the same shit in the backfield and if he was as good as everyone says why wouldn't there have been a goddamn addition who was worth a shit via the draft. You can find RBs all over in the draft. Then they move him to TE this year and we get into the season with the worst fucking TE group in recent memory which is really saying something, given the problems we've had at that position historically.

Also and btw it seems to me that at least with Wes Phillips as TE coach our guys were well prepared. Even the depth types called upon during the playoff run delivered. But now they unilaterally look like dog shit. Even Higs, who historically has hovered somewhere between solid and good, has looked like garbage.

Question I have is whether Brown is the Rams run game coordinator. And if he is maybe that's part of the problem. The dude seems to be in over his head, in terms of looking at the product he's fielding, and this is not a new thing.

Neither Robinson nor Sample seem to be particularly good at what they do either. Robinson in yesterday's game had a good plan put together but the moment SF started dialing up extra rushers the Rams offense was clueless. There were zero hot adjustments, Stafford just got sacked. Sample has overseen a RB group that looks like shit on the field and who reportedly had an explosion by Akers in a team meeting, which seems unlike the guy I thought he was. If we were talking about these guys as players they'd be looking positively JAG-like. I mean for all the shit I just gave Brown he at least never had a RB freak out over playing time, he managed that shit.

We are now the proud owners of the 23rd ranked defense in passer rating allowed. So not impressed by Shula so far in his new responsibilities. Somehow fielding two SS types at safety makes sense to him, and even worse is that Rapp is one of them and he's a guy who we've bitched about forever here. Scott pissed me off yesterday but I get giving him a shot, but we're a contender not a fucking development team so we need production.

Beake appears to be doing his job but the Rams are 13th in average yards per rush which seems on the low end given some of the pieces he has to work with. They have done well with missed tackle rate, though when they play the 9ers that seems to go out the window.

Bogardus hasn't done shit with the OLBs. Our crappy rotational types played better under Henderson last year. Floyd has not looked particularly good for some time so don't want to blame Thad with that but overall I am not happy with his unit even considering the quality problem at the top of the roster.
He brought in Liam and Jay also. They are two respected offensive minds but they still are struggling.

20 Random Indefensible Thoughts

Right, so I dont think it's necessarily DC related, they pounded us with Wade in game 1 in 2019, then the 2nd game was the infamous "defense couldnt stop 3rd and 16, TWICE" game...
Rams change DC, same result. 49ers change DC, same result.....

Not necessarily DC related but game plan related. I don't recall as much about the 2019 losses, but from 2020 up through yesterday, we've pretty much done the same thing defensively against those guys in ever single regular season meeting, and we've gotten largely the same results.

On the offensive side of the ball, the high-scoring game in 2019 was one where McVay did a lot of different stuff, starting with the rollouts of the QB, to compensate for the OL problems. It largely worked as our offense had a pretty good game. But since then, I haven't seen McVay do much of anything different against them, and I don't see him employing the same wrinkles on O that he does in other games.

What do you, personally, want to see Rams accomplish by trade deadline?

At this point I don't see the need to trade picks. There is no savior out there for this team. Best to ride with what they have. If they don't make the playoffs then maybe they'd need those picks for a quick rebuild. Or rather a reset. Drafting offensive linemen early and often next year probably won't improve the line much next year. But maybe by 2024 they can build it up.

Sofi Tour

Seeing your team win the SB at SoFi.....greatest stadium in the world.

Ive been twice and done a tour. Top notch for me.

Never waited long at all to get a beer, food on club level was awesome, and I dont really go to games for food. A dog and a modelo is fine for me.

This place will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. I like the EJD too.....but we never won a SB there....did win a couple NFC champs...

If you havent been to SoFi you gotta go.

Onto Tampa....

Did a Dodger Stadium Tour

Dodger Stadium has always been my favorite. Seems like every night game I attended the weather was perfect. Day games got a little warm but not too bad. Just something about that stadium feels so comfortable to be watching a game there.

One of these games I gotta get tickets to the pavillion section. I remember having good seats just a few rows up from the field level near 3rd base. I watched the people in the bleachers. They were having blast. The people in my section were a little more subdued trying to be proper. I told my wife "I'd rather be over there. Those people are having a lot more fun than we are".
I also change the tribune if I'm bored :laugh1: Sometimes the attendants object, but I don't take a seat if there isn't one.

Still no run game

Good point.

Mcvay's entire offensive philosophy is centered around the passing game and always has been. He gets these smaller mobile Olinemen that can get out on screen plays. Uses 11 personnel dam near exclusively and uses TE's that can catch and run but often suck at run blocking such as Higbee. He uses his WR's way too much in the run game so he can sneak in his "WR block" into the pass game. No fullback ever to be seen except a "WR" this year.

It's hard to be mad at a guy that constantly puts out a top offense, this year withstanding. And of course past years we saw dropoffs when the injuries hit the Oline hard. 2019-2020. He's a creative offensive playcaller with the pass game and really knows how to coach his guys up to a high level of execution.

But the lack of prioritizing the Oline is his downfall. It's more then just the Tutu over Humprey pick. We have known Whitworth was aging for years. Players like Evans, Edwards and Allen and even Noteboom were showing some potential but None of them ever looked like plus starters or Pro Bowl level players. So, Mcvay was OK with a Mediocre line at the end of the day. It was like pulling teeth to get them to spend some capital to make a trade for a player like Corbett and then once his contract expired he wasn't prioritized. Saffold was able to walk etc.

I don't blame Mcvay for not being run first. He is not Shannahan. He is pass first and it can work. Many, Many games we have come out blazing on offense with pass after pass and beaten teams that way. But to go into the season with a mediocre starting 5 and very weak depth was a mistake and now he is paying the price.

Our best 5 will be Jackson, Edwards, Allen, Shelton and Havs. It might be serviceable as a pass protecting Oline but I don't see it ever being much better in run blocking.
I think its scheme. SF have had OL injuries yet they always seem to be able to run the ball well.

GDMT - Game Day Menu Thread - 49’ers at Rams

Fortunately I've never had to 'diet', my body type hasn't required one. I've always eaten and drank what I wanted without regard to other influences, although I was told to watch my cholesterol about 25 years ago, which I stopped doing about 22 years ago. I've always balanced my intake with the healthy and perhaps not so much, but am not excessive about anything and have never had an addictive personality with regards to still enjoying drink and some popular drugs from the age of 15. I jogged and worked out from my early 20's until my mid 60's, then said fuck it. I wore a mens pants size 32/34 from college up until about 3 years ago (67) when I graduated to a 36, and there I remain. I'd rather live to 70 and eat what I want than live to 80 on some restricted 'diet', but that's just me. Outside of a little pot, I take no prescription medicine of any kind for anything, although that may change soon due to back pain. In many respects, I've been lucky, and being in the food service industry I've watched many who had weight gain and/or became alcoholics/addicts. Now that I'm moving into antique territory personally, I just don't give a shit about those things that once bothered me, and I've always been more 'hippie' than buttoned down, so heaven looks a lot more like Harley's, 'hippie' chicks and a gourmet buffet than golden riches & religious icons, ... not that I believe in such a place anyway.
No doubt, more information than you wanted, but there you have it. jmo.

Understood. I feel the same way; I'd rather indulge in the things I eat and live only to sixty than diet and live to eighty. Then again, sixty is probably as far as I want to go, and it's probably as far as I will go.

Rams signed OT Ty Nsekhe

Ty Nsekhe will be the Swing OT (LT/RT) reserve today. Matt Skura is also active to back up center Brian Allen. McVay called up elevated Reserve Swing OG Chandler Brewer from the PS for the 4th time.

Jeremiah Kolone resigned to the Practice Squad yesterday joining OT AJ Arcuri. Not sure what happen to Max Pricher?

No recent information has been provided on IR OL'ers Coleman Shelton & David Edwards on any return time.
The active players are just like you predicted.

The big question is are they really going to start Evans at Right Guard?

I would rather they start Skura at Right Guard but that could leave us short at the Center back up.

How much of our woe is field turf related?

FWIW the whole reason field turf was developed was to offer the best solution for playing surface. Now granted grass gives, but field turf offers quite a bit of pluses too.

Watering vs. Cutting
When it comes to watering versus cutting the turf field has it hands down over the natural grass field. Both need to be watered but for different reasons. Natural grass must be watered often to ensure proper grass growth. The turf field must be watered simply to remove dust and dirt buildup.

Wear From Traffic
When it comes to foot traffic on turf as compared to grass fields, again turf fields take it hands down. Foot traffic can make bare spots on a natural grass field. Turf is far more equipped to handle foot traffic without noticeable wear and tear.

Durability
Turf fields are clearly far more durable than natural grass fields. They handle foot traffic better. If the turf is well-maintained, it can last for up to 20 years or more if you use the proper artificial turf care maintenance.

Ease of Cleaning
Turf fields are much easier to clean than are natural grass fields. If leaves get on turf it only takes a blower to blow them off. If dust and dirt get on it then you simply need to hose it off or let the rain take care of it.

Long Term Maintenance Costs
While the initial cost of installation of a turf field can be heavy, the long-term maintenance cost will make the difference over the years of use. Natural grass fields need constant watering, seeding, cutting, pesticide application and etc. Turf fields need none of that. There are maintenance costs associated with them, but it is less in the long term.

Appearance
Turf fields will maintain their appearance much better over the long term than natural grass fields. They handle wear and tear better and weather better, so they won’t turn brown in high temperatures.

Choice of Grass Type
When purchasing a turf field, the organization can choose what kind of grass they want. From length to thickness and type of grass they have many options to choose from.

Eco-Friendly
Because turf does not require pesticides or nearly as much water, it is much more eco-friendly than natural grass fields.

Water Conservation
Turf fields don’t require watering on a regular basis. If they get dusty and dirty you can simply hose them off. If you live in a rainy region then the rain can do that job for you.

Water Runoff
Turf fields are better able to handle water run off than natural grass fields. They can be used to catch the water and use it for other applications.
Still, grass is better. Just the idea that turf is more Eco-friendly is laughable.
If you can not get a grass stain when you slide on it, its fake garbage.
Grass rules and in sunny So Cal it should be the rule.
Arizona has a better field than us.

Predicting secondary matchups vs the 49ers

Kendrick can tackle so I imagine he stays outside in this one.

Durant I figure has to gradually work his way into things. I would work him in and have him ready to jump the routes across the middle where Jimmy kills us. If they play him outside the hash ratboy will attack him and test his tackling. No idea if he can handle that but he adds INT threat to this secondary.

Ramsey on Kittle yes. Durant cannot handle Kittle's physicality just yet.

Good thing is now they can phase out Long and Rochell and use them as depth, though that may take a few weeks. What is good is Raheem has options.

If it wasn't for this OL I would be really confident about this game. Because I think our defense is going to handle their run game. Here's hoping McVay call enough runs to let them fire off.

CMC added sucks. ILBs gonna need a good game.

Hope McVay ran padded practices this week.

Around the NFL - Looking ahead to Week 8

I'm in agreement and unless the Rams get Chubb, let's go with what we have and start drafting accordingly.
I'm not in favor of getting Chubb, I'd rather give up future draft picks to trade up and get someone who will make a difference. We aren't going to the SB, it's time to face the music, our OL injuries and lack of drafting anybody worth a shit (drafting 155lb gimmick WR than a All-Pro center) that are cheap and difference makers cost us this season.

We need to realize we have lost this battle (season) and time to prepare to win the war (before AD retires) because our DL is going to be shit without him.
