OK, OK, I'll Release my Current Mock for the 2023 Season ...

It's now been a little over 3 weeks since I've made the above mock, the Rams have managed 3 more losses since, and while my draft & free agency period remains largely unchanged, issues deserve to be freshly dealt with. First, re-signing OBj is no longer a top priority with so many other matters presenting themselves. Instead, I've now seen enough of Wolford & Perkins as 53 roster depth to seek Sam Darnold as a free agent back-up QB while moving Perkins to the Practice Squad with a later round draftee (Phil Jurkovec, B.C.). I've also dropped my free agent RB acquisition (D’Ernest Johnson) since it appears that Akers is now back in our good graces. Henderson, Akers & Williams were one too many for the RB rooms potential starters, so rather than another strong free agent which might upset the balance, I'll just go with my later round draftee (Chris Rodriguez, Ky.) to perform the duties once expected of Malcolm Brown. Free Agency actually gets less expensive for us by switching out OBj & D'Ernest Johnson for Darnold, and we save a roster spot as we'll no longer be carrying 2 back-up QB's on the 53.
Our 2023 depth chart for RB's would now be Kyren Williams, Cam Akers, Chris Rodriguez* & Roger Carter.
Our 2023 depth chart for TE's would be Tyler Higbee, Luke Musgrave*, Brycen Hopkins & Jared Pinkney.

While a few comments have suggested that Leonard Floyd wouldn't likely bring us a 3'rd round draft pick in the event of a trade, it appears that as the Rams continue to lose games this season it boosts our chances of moving up quite a bit in the draft. If we were to draft today, we'd probably be no later than the 8'th pick overall of the 2'nd round, and if we lose to K.C. this coming Sunday, then we may be drafting no later than the 5'th pick in the 2'nd round. After consulting the Trade Value Chart, if Snead chooses, he could trade down to a later pick in the 2'nd round AND pick up an additional 3'rd round draft pick. I raise this option for keeping the added 3'rd round pick I've used in my mock, so even if Floyd couldn't bring a 3'rd in trade, we'd still have that additional 3'rd round pick as well as whatever Floyd might yet bring. jmo.

The most ridiculous stat I've ever seen

The most ridiculous stat?

The global rate for washing hands after using the toilet is under 20 percent.

THATS ridiculous!

FEATURE 20 Random Shooing the Vultures Thoughts

Avenger:

I’ll admit I participated in a “what if “ scenario and mentioned trading #99 to the steelers.

Let me be clear. I would rather have Donald retire a Ram.

…however, all possibilities can be entertained when considering huge moves to set up this franchise for another SB run.

As for hindsight on the current season, I didn’t get all gooey when when the Rams essentially replaced Woods with Robinson. It was constantly repeated on this forum that it would be an upgrade. I doubted it from the onset and still don’t see it.

As for the OL decisions, I fully supported re-signing Noteboom because he had played well at LT when given the opportunities and he was being groomed for the job. He got hurt.
I also understood why the the Rams kept Allen over corbin. The Rams felt they had nobody else who would be an upgrade and Allen did a good job in ‘21. OTH, they had more options at guard.

The Rams lived for the moment, leaving little draft capital and less $$ for any huge moves this year.
…but IT WORKED!

The Rams won the SB with this formula.

It sucks seeing all of the injuries and uninspiring play, but it is tough to be competitive with all of the adversity this season.

What should be pointed out is those players we have ragged on, like Rapp and Evans are in their last year under contract and the consensus on this board is they will not return. That was the prevailing opinion going in, and certainly hasn’t changed.

There is still an opportunity for something positive to come out of this season. Instead of “waiting ‘till next year” on candidates for starting jobs or even roster spots, we can get them real game reps now. Camp performance isn’t always the best indicator of future performance.

In the end, the Rams won the SB on my fucking birthday and they had to go through the 9ers to do it. Am I sorry? Am I disappointed in “the plan”?

FUCK NO!!

GAME DAY MNF - 49’ers at Cardinals (Mexico City)

So, ahh.... what happens in Mexico City, stays in Mexico City??

Cardinals Fire OL Coach

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury told Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic on Tuesday that offensive line coach and running game coordinator Sean Kugler was fired after an incident in Mexico City on Sunday night.

"We relieved him of his duties, and he was sent home Monday morning prior to the game," Kingsbury said.

"It's challenging anytime you make a staff change in that type of manner," he added.

Kingsbury did not address Kugler's firing at a Tuesday news conference:

Flipper's 336 Yard Record Game

Willie Ellison 247 yards rushing against the aints in 1971 at the Coliseum and I got to watch it on TV which was somewhat surprising to me at the time because that was not a marquee matchup. LA RAMS 45 aints 28.
I remember that game and I could have sworn I started following the Rams in 1972

Oh well - I probably paid attention to them from time to time before that

Rams @Saints vent thread

If Evans is gonna be the guy this year now, they should just shut Stafford down for the rest of the year. I know we may not win another game. And I'll get frustrated every week watching them lose. But if Stafford keeps playing he'll be risk of something long term behind this line. Alternate Perkins and Wolford to see if either is a viable backup. Right now neither looks like one.

GAME DAY GDT - Rams at Saints

Down 10 with 6 minutes and we punt from the 50 yard line.? My son left the room. How can I teach them to believe when the team doesn't? Assholes. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Fuck.
Honestly I think that false start was the moment of defeat. It put us behind the chains at a crucial moment when driving. But I agree they should have been playing four downs to include the third down call, as in you complete underneath to make fourth down short as possible.

Guys, I have an alcohol problem

Sorry I haven't responded to your thread UK. I manage kitchens that all are associated with bars and gambling that also allow smoking, so I'm pretty much surrounded by addictive avenues. I have to admit that I use alcohol too much myself. Oddly, my use tends to be mostly at my place of work. My home tends to be my safe area. Amazingly, the Rams haven't changed that as I rarely even have so much as a beer during the game.

My question is, is there a place that you can go that will take away your desire to drink? As @FaulkSF said, is there a way you can get in some exercise? A walk, a hike, a work out venue of some sort? Is there a buddy or relative you can reach out to to just do something that doesn't involve drinking?

For me, when I'm home, I am generally working on something - loading bullets, fixing up my man cave, working in my garage, etc... Even if it's just puttering around, I don't find the want to drink while I'm doing it.

I too just turned 60 (last week in fact). I feel you when you talk about your ability to govern things in your life being more difficult - especially with something that allows you a brief escape.

I like the following quote as it seems to me that as much as some of us can empathize with you and offer suggestions/advice, seeking neutral/outside help from people with real world knowledge may be the best answer.

All the best to you and you know we're all in your corner.

Onward and upward,

Stu
No need to apologise Stu and thanks a lot! Things going well at the moment, let's just hope the Rams don't push me to the brink today!

Some recent Ram coaching/FO decisions that I still don’t understand…

It’s not generally wise to deliberately ignore evidence that makes one uncomfortable but is right there under one’s nose.

It’s not unlike looking the other way when seeing a dripping leak from a pipe on a submarine.

I don’t enjoy confronting these things either but I still feel compelled to at least point them out.

The FUNNY thing is your perspective of winning another Superbowl & still seeing this leaks. - I always seen them, but I elect to drink the Kool-aide and think they have a chance to win it all.
In 2022 there was a chance we could repeat, but History & the scheduling made it seem impossible.
Now we know that there is NO Chance to win it all.

CAM AKERS IMO was unforseeable to think he would go AWOL.

What is wrong with you people?

Miller's leaving is on him not the Ram FO. They made a legit attempt to sign him but Von's ego to try for a ring with 3 different teams is what made the Bills more attractive. Also, they extended him for more years than the Rams were offering him despite the Ram yearly offer being the same or perhaps slightly more. So Von leaving can't be put on the Ram FO.

It wasn't until this year that Allen could be termed injury prone. When he is healthy he's a very good starting center. The Rams are lucky that they have Shelton who has shown he's a very capable starter in his own right and appears more durable than Allen.

Speaking of durability I have to wonder if they will make a change with Justin Lovett, and Zack Witherspoon and the rest of the strength and conditioning staff. IMO there must be a problem for this many injuries this early in the season.

I said before the season that only injuries could really derail the Rams this year. But I never envisioned how bad it would be this year. If his injury carousel would end this team could make a run even with several starters missing. Kupp is out and he can't be replaced. But it's not like this team doesn't have talent at WR. They finally signed Harris to the 53 roster. If McCutcheon can emerge they will have a solid group of WRs.

With Kupp out and Robinson and Jefferson likely to be their outside starters, it would be a perfect time to move to a 21 personnel offense with Carter as their FB. I've given up caring about Robinson because McCutcheon is playing behind him and is faster. Playing 21 personnel means Stafford will be looking at mostly zone coverages. with Robinson/McCutcheon and Jefferson outside that also would benefit them as well. Now add in Higbee and the RB as dump off options and this offense can morph once again.

McVay needs to revamp his offense. This will be the ultimate test for the boy genius.

My take on AJ Arcuri

This is the first time I got to see video of AJ's play and this is what I saw. Arcuri is a big man with good arm length. His physical traits stand out and on first look, you see an NFL OT. Then you turn to the tape and you can see why he dropped in the draft. He's a big man with his length giving him a good play radius, but the crucial thing lacking is his quickness off the snap. His slide was smooth but if he's beaten off the snap like he many times is, he struggles to recover. If he can stay in phase then he looks fine. He was occasionally abused by edge rushers with speed. He would be dead meat against NFL level speed rushers. Arcuri lacks the foot quickness you look for in an NFL OT. He also lacks acceleration and it shows when he's asked to do more than in-line run blocking. He struggles on the second level. He looks to be strictly a zone blocker on run plays.

One thing I did note is that he can drop his hips to play with leverage. That is something a lot of men his height cannot do. Jackson can and it's why he can play with leverage at OG. Edwards cannot and it's why he is many times driven back into Stafford or allows contact in the backfield on running plays. Arcuri does seem to struggle at times in run blocking but he looks solid in his pass blocking. This is why he might be able to play inside despite his height as he can dip his hips for leverage which is the name of the game at OG. It will be interesting to see where they play him.

At this point I see him strictly as a depth player.
