GAME DAY Rams at Ravens - Game Day Thread

This team was ranked anywhere between 28th and 32nd in every single pre-season Power Rankings. Vegas had our win total O/U at 6.5.

When Stafford is in the lineup, this is a top 5 offense according to several offensive metrics. We’ve been shuffling OL lineups all year long, Stafford missed 2 games, Kupp missed 4. And this still could be a playoff team that would be a pain in the ass for anyone.

I also think the future is bright enough— given the roster makeup—that McVay might put his “retirement” on hold even longer. I never saw McVay sticking around for a rebuild if we went 5-12. But there’s just so much good young talent on this roster that it would be tough to leave. And I truly believe as long as we can keep Stafford upright, he’ll be one of the leagues best.
McVay's not going anywhere yet.
He figured that out last offseason.

Yes, this is conjecture.. but based on a lot of reading and pods that talked about him and featured him.

Jourdan had her finger on that pulse, for sure.

McVay wouldn't have come back this year, with this roster, unless he was in for AT LEAST one more season after this.
Next offseason, we're going to see the super "all-in" version, imo.. and they're going to get this roster as good as possible for the next two seasons.

After that? That's when the rebuild comes.

PREGAME The Ravens up next - Pregame Thread

Murray and Wussel are no where near the running threat that Lamar Jackson is. That's a terrible comparison. However with that said, it's any given Sunday.
Murray and Wilson have made plenty of money because of their escapability. No one in NFL history is a better running QB than Jackson but those two are as good as there are actively in the NFL to compare for the Rams D.

Nate Tice and the run game

Nice breakdown that shows how Mcvay is continuing to innovate.

We are getting production in the run game due to some creative and hard work on the whiteboard.

It really does remind of 2018 when Mcvay used lots of baiting the defense with similar plays that fooled the defense.

Of course, this 2023 iteration is completely different in the type of plays we are running. The heavy motion with Puka and the WR's and running the power and zone concepts out of those designs is completely different then 2018.

It goes without saying, This wouldn't be as effective without Kyren's abilities and the blocking of an upgraded Oline. Also, Kupp and Puka are excellent blockers in this scheme.

I also like how these designs allow for keeping a WR in for pass blocking on the edge.

You have to wonder how long it will take defenses to adjust and stop this new wrinkle and the different variations off of it.

Also, he didn't mention it, but getting the bigger Robinson involved over Tutu is another development to keep an eye on. Tutu can have a roll with his speed, but the run game is critical to the Rams success and the bigger blocking WR's are a huge part of that success.

The Mayfield Miracle

Well for one Mayfield has played 84 career games vs Herbert's 61

In 3 seasons Herbert had 2 winning seasons... in his 7-year career Mayfield has ONE winning season.

Herberts 2nd full season he had 5038 yards and 38 tds

Herberts career rating is 96 Mayfield's career rating is 87.

So, in pretty much every measurable way Herbert is significantly better.

That is odd because the graphic I saw with their career W/L record side by side showed herbert with one more “decision” than mayfield. Again, odd because mayfield has been around longer. I wonder if he got credited for the win vs the raiders because he didn’t actually come into the game until the Rams’ second possession.

Bills’ HC Sean McDermott used a bizarre 9/11 example of the terrorists teamwork to motivate his team in 2019

...You can't be serious. This can't be true. It just can't. How did this get past the NFL? Hell, how did nobody report this at the college - a New York college, no less?

If true, he deserves to be fired for sheer idiocy alone.

I’ve talked to Marine buddies about Full Metal Jacket and especially boot camp (Parris Island almost exclusively) and it seems the habit of using former Marines who went on sniping rampages as a standard isn’t uncommon. Navy boot used to be just PT and classes…

I disagree with that 100%. I don’t think any Marine needs to be inspired by someone who used their training to kill innocent civilians. As well, I don’t think that the 9/11 terrorists in any way need to be an example of competence or diligence… for ANYONE.

2023 Defense through 12 Games vs 2022 first 12 games

Last year the offense was one of worst in NFL. This year they can at least score points. Puka stepped in for gimpy Kupp, Stafford
mostly healthy. Offensive line is pretty good, RB is pretty good.

Defense was not perfect last year. It had bad games and cost wins but had good games. Offense affects the defense and there are times when the offense needed a first down to seal a win but would go 3 and out. Defense carries heavy burden last year.

The questions I posed were what are the results?
And are the differences do great that one year a few people wanted Morris fired and this year they
don't.

Mitigating factors such as a young group and a bad offensive aside. The Morris hate has been and always
was over the top and unreasonable and with a few people it was personal.

edited to correct a couple of typos

A good offense that can score makes a world of difference. Anyone recall the season after the Rams won SB 34? Our defense sucked and gave up a ton of yards and points but the Rams still started the season 6-0 and if Az-Hakim didn't fumble that punt away in the last 2 minutes of that playoff game against the Saints, the Rams still had a chance at the NFCCG and Superbowl that season. The Rams gave up 471 points in a 16 game season and went 10-6 and was probably the last team anyone wanted to meet in the playoffs that season.

CELEBRATE !! Celebration thread...eating Brownies tonight!!!!

Rams are in great position to make a playoff run. Either the Vikings or Packers will falter. I like our chances if we can win 4 of the last 5.
The Rams WILL have their hands full against the big boys (Ravens, 69ers. They WILL win the other 3 games (he says with his homer confidence fully unleashed by the Brownies 4th quarter beat down). What will really be interesting is if they can hang with the big boys.

EJ Warner playing well

Wonder where he'll land??
The portal and money thrown at QBs and receivers really sucks for the lesser D1 schools like Temple and Akron, etc….

It has basically turned them into a farm system.

Jets sign Brett Rypien

The Jets are like a low budget science fiction fantasy on Hulu.
I believe the plot for Shark-Nado 7 is an attack on the Jets’ Training Camp.

Aaron Rodgers saves many lives by throwing football-shaped grenades at the attacking sharks.

Zach Wilson tries to help but all his throws miss the mark.

Zach is mortally wounded, and dies in Aaron’s arms. It’s a real tear jerker.

MLS Playoffs

Last year's final was pretty good, with LA pulling it out in PKs. This year I think may be equally good, and what's interesting in the matchup is you have a team that possesses so well in Columbus while LA is comfortable playing on the counter.

Definitely don't want Columbus to win, given that their owner is that smug prick who owns the Brownstains. Hope LAFC gets 'er done.
