I never liked Joe Thomas.

I think he lacks perspective in this particular situation. It’s Irsay. The guy is a bumbling fool when it comes to his team.

It’s not an insult. It’s just dumb. But it would be funny if Saturday was successful, and now I hope he is.

A lot of people laughed at John Lynch wanting to be a GM.
its because they are tanking bro... thats why he hired him.

He doesn't want to win.

We could have been. Rosenbloom traded the Colts to Irsay to get the Rams.

If that doesn’t happen then Irsay is still the Rams owner.
Wait Irsay was the Rams owner back then?

Yea. Someone posted a story. Rose bloom owned the Colts. Irsay had just gotten the Rams. Rose bloom wanted out of the Baltimore so he suggested a trade
I knew about the trade but wasn’t familiar with who Rosenbloom traded with. Interesting it’s the Irsay family.

Colts win. If Saturday succeeds as head coach in Indy, it will be very interesting to see how HC openings are viewed going forward. Do you need prior experience? Perhaps not. Players have gone from playing to behind the bench in other sports, with varying degrees of success. Football has always been the exception in that regard, in that you rarely if ever see it. Likely because of all of the "Xs and Os". But if Saturday can do it, do not be surprised if other players follow. It could be very interesting.

The real story here is that Irsay supposedly told them to bench Ryan. Then he fires the head coach and hires a non-coach and allows him to start the QB he had the other coach bench.

I mean of course Ryan gives you a better shot to win. But that feels to me like a "now nobody can say we're tanking" move.

Yeah and the ironic thing is the Joe Thomas who owned the Whiners back then (not to be confused with this current ex-player) talked Irsay into that 1972 trade. Thomas proceeded to dismantle the Whiners in the mid-late 70s and as we know the Rams rose up and became a perennial playoff team.

There's a good story on SI (they charge now to read, dammit) back when it was happening. But the google search is brutal because the current Joe Thomas cancels the searches, FFS.
