Thanks. That’s a great watch

If most of the game is played in a QBs head, Ty Simpson is smart as all hell. He ticks three major boxes. He loves watching film; has a great memory and makes smart decisions quickly. McVay loves this kid. Bank it!

Team captain. Locker room guy. Tough. Brave. Pocket presence. NFL QBs, Warner, Everett, Daniels, Orlansky, all love his film. Played hurt half a season. Was the reason they were one game away from national championship. The protection in front of him looked damn terrible. His WRs were talented freshmans. He had no running game. On this film, his RB was woeful at picking up the blitz. His right tackle could have got him killed. He only talks about what he could do better.

He’s a glue guy who will always be looking to improve and loves being coached. He’s got a great demeanour (McVay’s favourite term for a great player)! At high school, he was the best player in State FFS. Good kid. No off field concerns in fact it’s the exact opposite. He will live in the facility!

He’s all of 6.2 and 220 pounds.

What am I missing here?

Comparing him with QBs who will be picked later is churlish. Simpson is easily one of the best players in this years draft.

Like Simpson, people round here need more of a gun slinger mentality. Why play it safe when our QB of the future is looking at you right in the face! “Don’t need no chicken littles” :-) Go Rams

Didnt you get the memo? We're better off giving up our firstborn (2027, 28, 29 1sts) to move up in NEXT YEAR'S Draft to take the likes of LaNorris Sellers and Trinidad Chambliss. Why do you want a SMART Quarterback for when you can have a physical freak like JaMarcus R... I MEAN, LaNorris Sellers? Jus (Julian) Sayin....

Well, he is more like 6-1" 210. So not huge. Now I won't dispute a lot of your other comments though. The fact that he can sit and develop here makes some sense since his biggest drawback is only having 15 college starts.

“I think Ty Simpson is pretty damn good,” Everett said in an exclusive interview. “I think he can play. And I think he comes from a family that has a mindset that Sean McVay loves. It’s been odd that there’s been zero talk about it. If they're thinking that Ty Simpson could be a possibility, I don't think you have to do it at pick 13. I think you have to do it before Pittsburgh's pick (at 21)” Jim Everett

Yes that Jim Everett not the poster who drove half of us round the twist even if I appreciated his breakdowns
:)

That’s a lot of thinking. Not a lot of knowing. I think I’m gonna stay away from this thread until after the draft.

He’s over 6.1 and over 210 so I guess height and weight are in the eye of the beholder :-)

I stand corrected though. He answered 6.2 when talking to Gruden and I didn’t check. He claims he is up above 211 in recent interviews that I watched

Watching that Kurt Warner video on Simpson he mentions height and says Simpson is fine. It also was funny because he said he never sniffed 6'2" yet everywhere they list Kurt as 6'2". Reminds me of the weight with AD99. He was always listed at 285 lbs and said he was always 265.

I disagree. He played well for much of the season but he wasn't doing it himself. In fact we'll never know the truth but I suspect they told him his job would be up for competition in camp this spring and that's part of the reason he jumped.

Alabama has a talented five-star, blue-chip redshirt freshman named Keelon Russell, and I'm sure they would want the most competitive quarterback out there (and, more importantly, not want Russell to transfer). Simpson's job could've possibly been in jeopardy, if that were the case. Alabama expected him to be gone, either via transferring (although he got multi-million dollar NIL offers, it was not likely, considering his and Saban's conversation about "making a legacy" at Alabama) or the draft. (which happened).

He wilted like a backup QB in the big games. I seriously doubt he would have been the dude for that program given their other options.

Also that coach is no Saban, but he does a great job with his QBs. Again I don't hate Simpson. What I hate is the idea of overdrafting his backup ass. Taking him later makes all the sense in the world.

He was the first QB to beat 4 ranked SEC teams in a row without a bye week. That’s a pretty high pressured schedule considering they got off to a bad start :-)

So, I am afraid you are plain wrong…

He drove their season on a sub standard, post hall of fame coached, team. With more talent around him who’s to say what he might have achieved?

I respect your opinion but there is no need to exaggerate. I also understand why you would prefer we take an immediate starter. Two questions :

1. Later when? Pick 61? By then he’s long gone

2. Do you mean back up behind Stafford? If you mean back up full stop then I fear you will be wrong

This is the problem I haven't seen the 'wait for 2027 because it's so deep' proponents address. I think we all believe we will have a pick somewhere near 32nd in 2027.

Even if the draft has a handful of 1st round QBs, how the heck are we gonna get one of them at 32? Historically, even in the deep QB drafts, they're all gone by 12 or so. It takes a lot of draft capital, and is extremely rare, to see a 20+ jump from the bottom of the 1st to the 10-12 range.

Waiting is not going to help us. This doesn't mean we should draft Simpson. If they don't love him, pass. But if they do, don't wait merely because next year will be deep.

Exactly. Not going to be able to jump from 24-32 ish pick to Top 3 to get a top guy. If Simpson is as good as the back half of the first round guys next year are, they should just take him this year.

Obviously all depends on the love McSnead feels for him.

Even if all that is true - he hasn't been able to take the hits at the college level. And the pro level is going to be even worse. His injury history is horrible.

I do not want an injury prone QB.

If by the big games you mean the Oklahoma game on (1st matchup 11/15), its been documented that he was ill and injured, but was still toughing it out. When they played in the SEC championship, he played pretty well. 28td/5int ratio isn't terrible considering 4 of the 5 picks happened after illness & injury and Bama had no line or running game to speak of.

I'm not advocating him at 13. I'm suggesting he is a pretty good prospect.

When did he not take hits and how has he been injury prone? His shitty OL that got him beat up vs Indiana is the only time that I've ever seen him get hurt and he tried to play through it.

Did you watch the Oklahoma game? He was money

Early in the year I was singing his praises. Late in the year not so much.

Short windows of performance don't do it for me with the QB position. We'll see how he plays in the pros. If McVay drafts him, or Shanny or one of the other top offensive minds he'll have his best shot to be a starter. But Goff demonstrates McVay's high standards and this kid's not there to my eye.
