Which QB should the Rams draft in the 1st Round next year?

Agree but they also have significant roster / talent needs, beyond just QB.

They recouped good value for Gardner and Williams but they were by far the Jets best CB and interior-DL.
Those former 4th and 3rd overall picks have got to be replaced; and the Jets are unlikely to get players of comparable talent, even if high draft choices are utilized.

Jets also need another receiving option so opponents can't entirely focus on Wilson.

Running Back and Safety are also roster needs.
At RB, Breece Hall is a free agent, and Braelon Allen is coming-off an injury. At S, there's just not much talent.

I believe what the Rams have learned in rebuilding the defense and moving on from Aaron Donald is, they like the contracts of drafted players. If there is a QB you like and want to develop, that contract is very cap friendly providing you the opportunity to spend money in other areas.

LaNorris Sellers could be in play here IMO as the Head Coach of South Carolina is Shane Beamer, who is a rah, rah, guy and not much else. They fired Mike Shula so before Chris Shula moves on to become HC, maybe his Uncle provides some intel on Sellers. Sellers would be able to sit behind Stafford, learn and develop. He has a big arm and also has the ability to extend plays and would get the opportunity to sit and learn. Smart kid too, great team player, never complaining considering how this season has gone.

Having a guy sit, learn, and develop for a few years is a sound plan.

What is it about Sellers that needs development?

Mechanics, pocket movement, and the mental side of the game (which is normal for a young, athletic QB).

Interesting, ok. If it's minor mechanics that could work. If it's major mechanics, I'd stay away.

Needing the mental side to develop can be risky. Sometimes, probably like half the time, that part never comes.

Wow. I love that running ability.

But at the end of the day, we're asking the QB to throw. Can he read a defense, go through progressions, make protection calls, etc.? He needs to have at least some of that. We don't want all of that to be something that's going to develop as he sits.

I'm sure if McSnead likes him, he'll be ok.

That's where the projection comes in. I think he can. But he's far from a sure thing. He has played in a pro-style offense at least.

Its just the hardest part of the inexact science of QB evaluations.
I would think this class would frustrating for scouts....I don't see a real clear dude in this class, but, I could well be wrong.
 
Since the Ram's pick at this point looks like it will be will be number 32 :helmet: , another big, quick playmaker like Kenyon Sadiq may be a solid option, if he's still on the board.
Having 2 big, fast ball catching TE's who can block might spare Puka's body for a couple of more seasons, if he's not asked to block quite as much.
I think that he takes enough of a beating playing his physical style of game as a receiver already. He will end up being like Coop and be broken down, compared to what he was previously in his career too early.
At this point of the season, I'm not convinced that the right QB is going to be there when we use the ATL pick, either.
May end up trading back a bit and picking up a couple of day 1 or 2 picks to get some O line / CB help.
Or, I could be full of shit about all of this just as easily.

When the Chiefs traded up for Mahomes, many thought it was a mistake, but they had the infrastructure in place to develop him. That's the difference between the Rams and the other teams drafting early. Talented kid on a for shit team with a dead man walking head coach is not a recipe for success in the NFL.
Any QB that gets a year to develop with McVay and Stafford is going to be far more likely to succeed than any QB drafted a year later by the Jets/Browns of the world
