I've been wanting the Rams to draft a top CB for a long while. But knowing that they need help in other places in the draft, I'm hopeful they get a free agent CB and O-lineman (center or tackle). The Ringer says that CB is one of the best areas for free agents in the next year.

Per Google, the "cap space estimates range from around $75 million to over $93 million, placing them among the NFL's top teams in available funds."

These ESPN and The Ringer articles (links below) agree on the top 4 available:
1. NO's Alontae Taylor (age 27) as the top available FA corner - ranked #11 among the top 25 FAs. The Ringer has him the top CB as well.
2. The Chiefs' Jaylen Watson (age 27) is ranked #15. The Ringer has him as the second best as well.
3. Seachickens' Riq Woolen (also age 27), who is 6"4" and has speed, is #18 of 25. The Rams have seldom had a tall CB, but I'd argue they need one. (Side note: Another big CB who may be a FA is Nashon Wright (6'4" 200lb), but he's more of a CB2.)
4. The Jags' Greg Newsome II (age 26), is ranked 25 of 25.
The net says that there are also more "established veterans like D.J. Reed, Carlton Davis, Rasul Douglas, and younger talents such as Asante Samuel Jr."
I'd be happy with any of them, but I am not very familiar with any of them except Woolen.
What do you think?

Cor'Dale Flott would be my first choice out of the free agents from other teams. Will only turn twenty-five in late August, he's tall and lengthy at 6'2", is a solid all-around corner (lots of forced fumbles and pass deflections, only three picks thus far), has been mostly healthy (save for the knee injury in Week 16 to which the Giants put him on IR after their season became FUBAR), etc.

Problem is that we'll have to pay through the nose, and we have so many other players that might have to be extended (like Nacua, Turner, McClendon, Avila/Dotson - prefer Avila - possibly Young unless we trade him for a haul, etc.) that it may not be feasible to pay Flott the kind of money he's rightfully going to ask for.

If McCreary is willing to re-up on a one-year deal, I'd definitely consider it. I'm willing to bank on Forbes bouncing back; he hasn't played great and has been wildly inconsistent in the last few games, but he was the best corner in the NFL for a stretch. Durant, Witherspoon, D-Will? No thank you. Thank them for their service and just triple-dip on corners in the 2026 draft; it's a great one for corners.

If the QB is not there in the draft I might use draft capital on a top CB or move back and take the multiple CB approach.

Then look at how to better coaching, scheme and possibly a top rangy safety to replace Curl and make QBs think twice before throwing deep.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Gotta believe a plug and play vet CB is in the cards.
Woolen would be my first choice but any of 1-4 above would do.

Then add a CB with that R1/32 or R2/64 pick. So tired of watching average QBs picking on our munchkins. Forbes and Durant would be good depth.

Flott and Durants numbers look pretty similar.

Flott has more forced fumbles and 2 more pass breakups over the 4 years. Durant has 5 more INTs. Neither are good at run support or tackling; the missed tackling rate is nearly identical.

PFF has Flott rated #42 of 122, Durant #43 of 122.

I'd just as soon keep the guy in our scheme. And I don't expect either to break the bank. My guess is $10 mil for both. Spotrac estimates $9.6 mil for Flott.

The good news is that there are CBs available both in the draft and free agency. I like the point made above that signing Riq Woolen (6'4", 205 lbs) weakens Seattle and helps us with a CB who can cover the big receivers that cause us trouble.

Let us not forget that San Francisco won a Super Bowl with two rookie corners.

Lott and Wright in 1981?
Yep.
I had to double check on the interwebs to make sure I wasn't passing along bad info.
Ronnie Lott was taken in the first round at number 8 and Eric Wright was taken in the second round with the 40th pick.

And we have very talented scouts, so hopefully they can do something similar. ;)

I guess, if it happens every 45 years.

I only remember Lott as a punishing safety who occasionally lined up at corner. Don’t remember Wright.
