This provides estimates of the costs associated with some of the FA corners. Again, the Rams will have much more cap space than in years past, especially when they jettison some big contracts. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/available/_/year/2026/position/cb/type/ufa

Unless they unexpectedly drop Parkinson, Darious Williams is probably the only contract they can jettison for significant cap savings.

My question is if the Rams win the Super Bowl with their current CBs should we expect them to pay big money for some of the top guys available? Or would they simply utilize the draft and just go bargain shopping again.

I think Darnay Holmes might be available. He is a So Cal local 5 star recruit only 27 still got some play in him. I think we can get him cheap and will show out pretty well on this team.

Lake plays slot CB, Forbes is under contract, Wallace is under contract and I have a feeling we re-sign Durant. Technically Darious is under contract next year as well, though he seems like a prime cut candidate.

I suspect we will be drafting two CBs and if anything, bargain shop in the FA market
Darious didn't play badly this year, but on the other hand he is 32. I suspect though that if we resign Durant he wouldn't be any less expensive than Willians' cap hit of $8.66 mil.

It's hard for me to see them cutting him when they already have 6 DB free agents.

Good question. My question from your question is, are the guys available much better than what we have?

I'm not seeing any standout CB free agents.

Yes. I would.

The fact you win it one year with a weak secondary doesn't mean you'll be able to pull it off the next, because the playoff field is different every year and the matchups align differently. So since you know your corners are dogshit, the proper response as a team builder is to fix it.

Everyone brings some type of skillset to the table. Its about understanding and utilizing the individual to the best of their abilities. Ideal match ups and perfecting the overall assignments is key. Mismatches will and can make someone look like dogshit. Got to put in the work and time. If not, goodbye. Simple. Fixed.

Thanks for posting this.
I can now see the interest in McCreary: he’s one of the youngest guys on that list.
Most of the other players would be risky to sign. They’re in that age area where the wheels could slow anytime. They certainly shouldn’t be paid like a CB1, and THAT is what the Rams need.

Sure you want to fix it. But that doesn't mean that they have to pay big money for the top rated free agents available this year to do so.

They could fix it by utilizing the draft and going bargain shopping again instead.

And with the possible exception of Chiefs CB Jaylen Watkins,, who must have gotten cut off from the bottom of the list, I don't see anyone any team should spend top $$ to obtain. @DzRams But we know that with free agency it's going to happen.

Who said big money. That could apply if the CB1 is there on the market. Or it may not. But I think a corner overhaul is required, because it is overdue to shape this defense to be able to tackle and smother the underneath bullshit SF plagues us with, as well as the complete lack of basic coverage generally speaking.

We don't just need the CB1. I'd like to see a few new players so using FA chips away at it at the very least.

Rams don't typically get involved in the initial signing frenzy when free agency hits. So its possible we won't be signing a top CB. We might pick one up in the next round of signing after the initial frenzy dies down. But I also think they gotta draft a CB early. One that grades out as a solid starter. Blue chip type talent.

They have some guys who are eligible for extensions this offseason. Puka's a no brainer. No one is better in the league than Puka. Turner should also be a priority. Young too. They have a good front four right now. Don't wanna upset that apple cart.

Not sure if they wait on Avila. He's not a top guard but he is more than serviceable and has good chemistry with the others. I hope they can keep him after next year. But if they can't extend everyone I think he's the odd man out. Puka, Turner and Young should be the higher priorities.

Getting back to CB. That is the weak link of the defense. Too many open receivers running free down field. Really gotta tighten that up. Of all the areas I think CB should be a priority. Whether its free agents or the draft.

I don't like this year's CB free agent class. With the exception of Jaylen Watkins, I don't feel any of the other names will upgrade our secondary.

I don't feel Alontae Taylor is any better than what we have. Woolen is a good man coverage CB but we play a lot of zone, and he's awful at that. I'm just not seeing free agent upgrades to Durant, besides Watkins.

And don't think bargain hunting will provide that upgrade either.

The only paths I'm seeing are a trade for a young, talented CB that's fallen out of favor with the coaching staff and an early draft pick.

I don't have a great feel for the quality of the CB class, which is why I'm not pushing for any specific addition. But as things stand right now...

2026 Offseason FAs: Spoon, Durant, and McCreary.

In addition Williams has a low cap hit if they cut him outright, which I would not rule out given his play. I would at least expect they would like to move on from him. Otherwise he is a FA in the 2027 offseason.

Forbes has team control through 2026 with option for 2027. I don't think he's got enough dog in him to sustain at corner at this level. Maybe the Rams keep him around and keep working on him. If they cut him looks like he has a $2.8M cap hit.

This corner room has overhaul written all over it. It is hard to do that with the draft alone. Also it is the Rams style to chip away at that prior with FA even if it's not a "big money" signing. You can get good value by finding fit.
