Simpson seems to be a polarizing player on the board.

With the draft about a week away, Im thinking we could use some fresh polls along with more discussion on specific prospects on the front page.

Put your GM caps on. Where do you see his value for the Rams or any other team?

Maybe the first 5 picks of the 2nd round have a slight chance of landing him. Slight. Otherwise he's a 1st round pick. Just like Jaxson Dart was. Just like Bryce Young was. Just like Michael Penix was.

He will be far closer to Bo Nix than Christian Ponder.

And Bo Nix - and J.J. McCarthy and Michael Penix, for that matter - were overdrafted in their class, like Ponder, Locker, and Gabbert (speaking as a Mizzou fan, Gabbert shouldn't have been anywhere but the mid-second round at best; he was fucking awful with us) in that 2011 class (not that I'm complaining; it helped us get Verse, after all, as well as Robert Quinn in 2011).

That's my point: Simpson is going to be well overdrafted because of a lot of bad teams need quarterbacks (since there aren't any other than Mendoza, and a team will convince themselves that Simpson will be their QB of the future, even with all of his warts), and hopefully that knocks an otherwise elite player in this class to #13 (such as Tate or Lemon).

If he had multiple years of actual starting in college with good results I'd say with his small frame he's a round 2 range type. But given the fact he cooked on the bench for most of his time in college and his one season was a mixed bag, I'll go round 3 as value for him.

Now of course teams will reach for the QB when they like him. So if the Rams take him at 13 it means they really believe in him. It means they think he has a good chance to start and lead their team.

But again if it's me I'd take a project type or one of the other small framed QBs who will go in the round 5 range in this draft. Or if Simpson were to fall to a more manageable spot sure take him. I do recognize he's a fit for this offense but I don't think he's special enough to risk that higher pick when we can plug holes up top this year for a run behind Stafford.

I agree with this though I think he can be a better Bo Nix.

Nix if fascinating cause he's in the absolute right situation for him. Couldn't ask for a better start to his career: QB guru, great offensive line 1st year (very good second year) and a strong X receiver. Even then, he's struggled and been very inconsistent at times but seems to be making incremental steps. There's a lot of smoke and mirrors in that offense that elevate Nix where I think he'd be a year away of playing himself out of a starting role on a bad team. But that's what you need to bring a flawed prospect along slowly.

Think Simpson offers more as a passer than Nix IF the beginning of his 2025 year is more indicative of what can do.

Nix is slightly more athletic I think though Simpson has some sneaky athleticism to him.

Hate Payton as much as you like, dude can absolutely make a QB look amazing. Him and Reid. I'd put McVay a step down from them.

I would use our 13th pick on incoming Rookie Bo Nix right now. The other guys available at 13 all have warts. Solve Quarterback. Simpson sits 1 or 2 years. We are good enough to win the Super Bowl without the help of this 13th pick this year.

Conversely, if we select Lemon or Tyson I'm stoked as well.

Simpson will be a better passer than Nix as you say. Nix the slightly better runner. Close in the same size maybe Nix by a hair bigger?

Simpson will go round 1 if for no other reason than those rookie contracts are too hard to pass up. If he has a high end OC and good protection he has a chance to be decent. If he has a mediocre OC, he will bust as sure as I post this. Kiper had him dropping in the first FWIW.

I would not - because Bo Nix can't throw the football downfield or even to the intermediate level with any sort of accuracy (i.e., not without someone big and physical like Sutton getting the ball); most of his throws are short or at the line of scrimmage for maximum YAC, or eight/nine/ten-yard passes to Sutton or another taller player who can come up with the pass with their catch radius.

To Asshole Face's (not even using his actual name because he is a raging asshole with a punchable face) credit, he knows how to take advantage of Nix's strengths: his legs, mostly, to make off-schedule plays and scheduling throws for an accurate short-range arm. Now, Asshole Face's dumbass call is also what got Nix hurt and missing the playoffs game against the Cheatriots and possibly even longer (into next season). Will Nix be better without the use of his legs? We'll see. It was still a shitty overdrafted pick like Penix and McCarthy that had Verse fall to us, same as the Locker, Gabbert, and Ponder picks dropped Quinn into our laps at #14 in 2011.

Now, to be fair to Simpson, he has much more going for him than Nix ever did. He can hit the intermediate levels to an extent. He's a better internal processor and anticipates routes much better than Nix did. But what he doesn't have is the amount of starts and an injury history and frame that is concerning, nor does he have the pure arm to make the throws that Stafford can make in his sleep (still better than Nix's arm, though).

He is a second-round prospect in a good draft class. In this class, he will be drafted at least in the top ten because there are too many teams who have shitty QB situations in this class and because this is an otherwise weak class period. One of said shitty-QB-situation teams will either select him with a top ten pick or trade up to select him in the top ten because any QB needy team will jump at a solution QB with any sort of pulse and even those who are flatlining, but have a big arm.

It's also why I think Trinidad Chambliss is a fucking moron for filing a lawsuit to have him stay at Ole Miss for one more year when he could've easily been a first round pick in this class - maybe even a top fifteen pick - and might not be in the first round for the next one, but that's a different tale to tell, and I digress.

I like him better than Jaxson Dart who went 24th a year ago. It also doesn't matter what I like, it matters what Sean and Les like.

Great write up by the way Memento.

I believe we can't know if someone is overdrafted until the results are in. If the player is successful, they clearly weren't overdrafted.

Purdy and Brady were severely underdrafted. Nix looks like he was drafted where he should have been.

The small framed guy that's the same size as Kurt Warner will likely be a 1st round pick. He'll be picked by a team that will rush him out to start and it will ruin him. Then all the haters can pat themselves on the back :D

Or he'll be picked by Eagles or Rams, sit a year or two and then be a winning Quarterback in the Brock Purdy/Bo Nix mold.
