Thats ridiculous

Am I wrong? If so, tell me instead of justifying it as "Thats ridiculous" without saying why I'm wrong.

Ponder was drafted because his class of quarterbacks was shit and teams were willing to gamble on getting that one "franchise quarterback" to help their franchise. It was the same with Locker, Gabbert, and McCarthy.

Simpson is the same: a quarterback who - in an actually good draft - would be in the second round. Maybe a high-second, but still a second-round quarterback. But with this draft being extremely weak with very few blue-chip prospects, he will go in the top ten, either to a team that selects him or a team that trades up to get him.

The small framed guy that's the same size as Kurt Warner will likely be a 1st round pick. He'll be picked by a team that will rush him out to start and it will ruin him. Then all the haters can pat themselves on the back :D
Sounds like you agree with me that he shouldn't go that high. How ironic.

Religious people who think.

The draft is a crapshoot.

I’d go 3rd round if he was still there.

But being a QB with flashes of high level play, I’d expect mid to late first round.

Not gonna be surprised at a top 10 though.

I guess, here's my question:

Who is gonna overdraft him in this draft?

Some say the Steelers but Charles Robinson says that he's had the ear of the personnel guys in Pitt for the last number of years and they bitched and moaned about the lack of athleticism and arm strength of the guys they had there specifically Pickett and Trubinsky. I bet they go in a different direction with an aging defense and 10-12 QBs next year who could be 1st round picks. Not 6 guys, 10-12.

Outside of the Steelers, what team in the 1st round is gonna draft him?

With 10-12 guys (and I know people will say weren't we supposed to have a number of QBs coming out this year that were good - maybe 6 at best) possibly being starters next year in the 1st, do you really want to trade up from the 2nd as a team this year to the 1st for Simpson and give up draft capital to get him.

I think Simpson makes it to ARI in the 2nd and maybe slips further.

He's just not good enough nor has enough starts to justify taking him in the 1st or spending capital to get back into the first.

And teams are betting on the QB futures market right f*cking now.

Never said that at all you are reading what you want. I don't think he should go to a team that starts him right away. Not even close to the same thing haha

This could be an acceptable way to draft Simpson. Move back, collect picks, even a 27' 4th rounder. This type of draft (you can quibble with the actual picks) can build out your roster's depth with some future starters and some role players for 26'.

QBs who go high in the draft often start right away. The sheer value of the higher picks drives that, as does the poor quality of teams who typically select high.

It’s all about opinions and the only one’s that count are McVay and Snead. I just hope they can approach this QB decision with a little more grace than we have so far mustered in this thread

Simpson is a top 40 prospect on every board I have seen so perhaps not a third round pick

He has many more strengths than weaknesses

He outplayed most if not all the QBs coming out next year

The consensus, when you take the time to watch and read film breakdown by experts, is that McVay will love this kid. I have previously reported what I have seen and heard. Not one expert was anywhere near as negative as posters on this board :-)

If we want him then we should keep an eye on the 1. Cardinals, 2. Steelers and possibly 3. Miami. Don’t rule out 4. the Eagles.

I feel sorry for Simpson if he becomes a Jet or Brown. I don’t see it but wouldn’t rule it out

My guess is he goes to a good not bad team and their GM and head coach look like a geniuses two years from now. I would include the Cardinals in that who are better than last years record

We are 3rd favourite and short odds at that
