The loss of players on defense won't be as big an impact as suggested. If the same style of defense is called, then it will be relatively the same.
This really comes down to the offense, give Stafford time and if they can score, then we have a chance.
If the OL sucks Bobby's Big Balls, and no time for the QB then the Rams are gonna be trash.

No place kicker, no punter, no long snapper, no returner, no edge rusher, no veteran CB or S.

All to be filled by late day draftees, 3rd tier FA's and roster cuts.

Rams coaching staff has their work cut out for them.

Hard for me to expect Rams making the playoffs with so many new players and just one offseason to get any continuity, especially special teams. I expect bad snaps, blocked punts and missed FG's.

Gonna be a huge learning curve for the whole team.

And if our OL gets Stafford an early concussion, season over.

...

So Negative ... You conveniently forgot to mention the QB, WRs, O-Linemen and best player on the Team all returning from season-ending injuries.

Well either end of that fan spectrum is premature when we don't know what the roster looks like. It's too early to write them off for the wildcard I think. But it's also too early to claim they're a playoff team because we don't know how well they're gonna plug the holes all over the roster.

Fans could be right about either prediction but it's a stab in the dark, a real blind bet if made without knowing what the roster is.

Everything is premature. Either end and the middle. The middle, sometimes called "the rational" is simply not willing to lean towards either end. In other words, "I don't know, it's too early".

Not being negative, just being a realist. I'd love for the Rams to make the playoffs, just don't see how with a gutted roster, 3 good players, just 3 picks in the first 100 and an unproven OL.

Realistic? "3 good players" is realistic?

That's what I would say...."3 players" if the requirements were "future HOFers". But I can find some other "good players" on the roster. I'm pretty sure you could too, if you weren't being so...."realistic".

I agree. That's why I used blue font in my reply ... in case you were referencing my post above.

I hope I am wrong but I don't see how the Rams can be good in 2023.

Assuming Robinson and Hill sign elsewhere, the entire defense but for Donald and Jones will be gone.

I understand re-setting but there were some good players that signed minimal contracts that the Rams allowed to leave. Greg Gaines being the most notable.

Again, I really ... REALLY ... want to be wrong.

@AvengerRam you also realize our 3 pillars ended the season with injuries too correct?

2024 will be a reload similar to 2017. This was where we don't give a shit about compensatory picks in 2018 after signing Whit et al.

But we at ROD specialize in those types of blind bets!

I could certainly see us making the playoffs. Just go ahead and look at the rest of the starting QB's in the NFC. We assuredly rank near the top in that most important category. What is extremely important in this equation, we hit, and hit well, on at least our top 3 picks this year. Secondly, do not have half our team on IR. Lastly, what also is key - signing some vets after the draft that won't count in the comp formula. I can see us getting into the playoffs in a down NFC.

Pick 7 teams better than the Rams. Sure I could come up with 7 other playoff caliber teams, but heads and shoulders above the Rams?

I don’t think so.

And to your point, we might have the best QB in the division. We damn sure have the best HC.

Arizona Cardinals
Atlanta Falcons
Carolina Panthers
Chicago Bears
Dallas Cowboys
Detroit Lions
Green Bay Packers
Los Angeles Rams
Minnesota Vikings
New Orleans Saints
New York Giants
Philadelphia Eagles
San Francisco 49ers
Seattle Seahawks
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Washington Whatevers

Do we really need to know if the Rams will make the playoffs or not in April?

For ME it's watching the process. So far it's the start of a reset with the purging of many starters and future cap expenses. The complete picture hasn't been revealed yet but, the defense has been decimated.

Let me see what the outside world thinks.

We got more fortune tellers on here than at a two bit roadside carnival.

No one has any idea about the makeup of the draft class.

No one has any idea of which future FA signings will be made (if there are any -- at all).

No one has any idea of the injury situation coming out of preseason.

Frankly, I wouldn't bet $10 on our chances of reaching the playoffs as being better than any of the other bottom feeders of the 2022 NFL season. A roster doesn't get much more unproven than the current Ram one.

True. And I do it too btw. But this particular year gonna wait and see what this roster looks like. No idea from where we're sitting but if they add a few guys I really like in this draft I'll drink that fuckin kool-aid.

Nothing would please me more than a spunky Rams team taking the field in 2023 and remaining in the hunt for a playoff spot late into the season.

If that happens we have a head coach who will be mentioned in the same company as Shula and Noll.

If it doesn't then we still might depending upon 2024 and beyond.

I got 8 teams in bold that could be ahead of the Rams.

This site has the Rams rated 27th in the entire NFL. The Rams are ahead of the Bears, and Cardinals.

They are rated behind the Falcons and Bucs.

Ouch CBS has the Rams only ahead of the Bears ranked #29 in the entire league.

Not any better on this site, Rams ranked 3rd worst record in the NFC with 5 wins 1 ahead of the Cardinals and 2 ahead of the Bears

I started going down the rabbit hole of the schedule and had to stop. I never liked that guessing game. Ranks and ratings will change every week. We are still weeks away from the draft. At this point, the Rams are underdogs. McVay can use the underdog label as motivation.
