I'd rather just pay Gay. Roberto Aguayo and Rodrigo Blankenship were hyped as well.
Idk if you been following current events but we are releasing people to save 5 million! Lol I think we go the drafting right tbh!

Plus he’s a Wolverine! Hail Hail to Michigan the leaders of the west!

When you are cutting all pro's to find a few million of extra cap funds I just do not see how they can pay the premium for a placekicker. How would they do that when so many more fat cap teams need placekickers like him? Pretty sure he will not take an IOU.

He is a "younger" pro-bowl kicker. Sign him.

If we can't afford that then we are in big trouble.

A kicker is important. When you have to sweat over an extra point or a short FG, then, you have a problem. The Rams had that problem after they let Zuerlein walk. We were lucky that Matt Gay was available. Pay the man.

Robbie Gould is a FA but he will be 41 this year which is why the Niners released him. Offer him $3M on a one year contract which is more than what he got paid in SF last year. He might take it. Besides he would love to stick it to the Niners twice. Robbie missed 5 FGs on 32 attempts, one PAT of 51 and he was 2 for 2 on FGs beyond 50 yds. Gay missed 2 of 30 FGs, one PAT and was 7 of 9 beyond 50 yds. Gay might re-sign, you never know. Most teams aren't going to pay a premium for a kicker. Robbie's leg is stronger than Gays even though he's a lot older. Gay is apparently drawing interest from the Niners. They will pay him what they wouldn't pay Robbie simply because he's younger.

With Morris as DC the Rams need points anytime they cross the 50 yd line. Robbie would be my choice simply because he's better at long distance kicks.

If we lose Gay, a vet feels better than a rookie.

Then again if it’s about an eye for 2024 maybe get the rookie kicker seasoned in 2023.
Exactly.

Rams are asking 2 questions about every player in determining the 2023 roster:

1) Are they who they want in place for 2024 (think are Hav/Allen/Note/Edwards the answer at their positions)?

2) Are they needed to get us through 2023 (think enough OL depth to keep our QBs from getting killed)?

This poll is insane. Nearly 90% want Gay back at any deal. Over 100 votes.

Undrafted rookie or use a late round pick to draft one. No reason to pay a kicker $5M next year to kick 23 extra points and 12 FG's.

Gay is clutch as fuck. Especially after some of the kickers that blew through. Used to have to cross your fingers that joe blow can make the extra point and half the time they couldn't. Gay makes you feel like a 55 yarder is almost automatic.

Is he asking $5m/year? I see Gay as long term answer at K so while he will get more $$ in 2023 as long as it was reasonable (say $3.5m/yr) I’d like to see him get resigned.

Not at any deal, IMO. There is a point where cost has to be a concern. Wrapping up extra money in Gay that cost the team an every down player would be insane (Once again IMO).

Even if some players are not every down players, you need those skilled players. You don't want a merry go round on long snappers, kickers and some other key players. Even a reliable (no fumbles) punt returner is important. That doesn't mean you empty the bank to keep or get them but you can't be too cheap and let them walk without a good plan to replace them.

We had Sam Sloman and Cairo Santos and some others where an extra point was no gimme. Even if a kicker is not an every down player, they have a direct role in scoring much needed points.

Re-read my post. I never stated that a kicker wasn’t important. Is a kicker worth it at any cost? If you think so, that’s your opinion. Not mine.
