Well thanks to the fact that Noteboom can't be trusted to stay fucking healthy we're right back to where we were at RG and not knowing what we have really. There was dropoff to Anchrum but that doesn't mean it will stay that way. It's gonna be up to him to improve. So there's still a chance we get that job settled but 4/5 of the OL are good. If Anchrum improves we're good. If Boom returns we're good. Well for a game or so before he gets hurt again.

But we have an offense that looks eerily like the Super Bowl run offense. Which is to say capable of sustaining long and punishing drives on opponents. Even if they go with Anchrum the rest of the way and he's iffy, we'll still be a better than average offense. And the defense was solid in coverage all day. Rat Boy is gonna get his schemed up shots a few times a game and they'll gash you here and there on a run, but overall this defense almost helped us beat what everyone thinks is the best team in the league.

Rams are a good team. If you're sweating your non-playoff opinion right now you're wasting your time. This is certainly a wildcard level challenger. We're just gonna need injuries to favor us but we already knew that.

Did the Rams get to go home or are the 9ers still holding them?

End of the first half.

I have always been against jamming it in for the TD. When the team your playing has no timeouts, I'd much rather get the first down and make sure you're the last team to touch the ball that half or you're kicking it away with very little time left. Too often these teams start playing not to give up big plays and they allow teams to easily move down the field.

We were moving the ball all over the place on them until we imploded and they also (as i said earlier) started blitzing a lot the 2nd half.
yeah if we could do that to pukey he seems very average under pressure. trouble is we can't get pressure with a four-man rush.

We are a LT, Edge, NT, and #1 CB away from contending. Can we add all that in two years? 3 of those typically require high picks and/or significant FA investment. On the bright side, Puku looks an all pro, legit steal. Him Tutu and Kupp will be formidable.

More upset with the sickening red jerseys in our house , than I was in the game. Downright pathetic

It was disappointing that we made some errors in the second half, but there was a lot about this game that inspired optimism. Until we got stuck in a hole and the 49ers were able to pin their ears back, our OL held up incredibly well in pass pro. Stafford was very sharp for most of the game. Tutu and Puka proved last week was not an aberration. They are legit, despite Tutu's mistake in the redzone. When we get Kupp back, we're going to have a nasty WR group. Kyren Williams continued to play well, excepting the drop turned INT.

Defensively, Byron Young continues to impress. His athleticism stands out in a major way. I thought Kobie Turner played well. Got some pressure and made some run stops. Ernest Jones had another good day. Derion Kendrick did not have a good game, though.

All in all, I expected this to be a rough day. We played a lot better than I expected. If we don't get beaten down by injuries, I can definitely see us making the playoffs.

I've said it all along. If Noteboom can't play then they have Thomas, Dotson and McClendon to choose from. IMO Thomas is the best of the bunch, he has good feet like Noteboom and can make the pulls they want from the position. Thomas isn't physically as strong as Noteboom but he's technically sound. He's more mobile than Dotson or McClendon.

There was the expected dropoff when Anchrum came in. He missed at least one crucial OL call something he did in preseason as well. After 4 years he should be better. That's why IMO Thomas or Dotson would be their best long term option at RG.

Damn they want a 1st? Out of their minds.

But like the law of sales says “ start high and move low”

I’d eventually offer them Van, Cam, and a 5th and a 7th.

Have to pay him, injury history, will have him for only 3/4 of a season Id use as leverage, which I’m sure Snead will do in negotiations.

Have to work a sign then trade deal. No way you give up two players and two picks without a contract agreed upon

We have a lot of guys on D who will learn a lot from this week's film. I expect them to be better week by week.
Agree 100%. I think a lot of posters saw it that way going in, but I’ll admit, I am pleasantly surprised that they are starting out as well as they have. They seem a couple of weeks ahead of schedule when it comes to what my “optimistic” expectations were.

Lots of $ for FA over the next two years.

They been hanging alright....in the loss column.
Hanging out for what, 2 hours now?
You do know the Rams won last week, right? And that the 49ers are the SB favorite and the Rams weren't ever supposed to be in this game...

They have been overachieving.

Frustrating game because it was so winnable. We had to seize the game by the throat when we had the momentum. We didn't and it cost us. But it is hard to say the 49ers were not deserving. How many easy TDs did Purdy miss? The 49ers were the better team.

The unforced errors cost us. The INT off Williams' hands. Tutu running the wrong route on a would-be touch down. Van Jefferson's lazy route leading to a pick. You can't beat teams as good as the 49ers with those kind of errors. With Tutu, hopefully it is just a growing pain as he continues to pickup the offense.

The refs were awful. Did the 49ers even get a single flag before the game was already decided? Tons of holds uncalled. And only the Rams DBs were flagged on tight, borderline coverage.

We still can't tackle vs. the 49ers.

Nacua looks incredible.

Stafford looks amazing but we need to keep him clean. The pass protection was way worse after Noteboom went down. Hopefully, he is okay. If not, once Anchrum gets more reps to acclimate, and the new o-line unit can gel, I am cautiously optimistic the drop off will not be steep. But any other injuries and our depth will really be tested.

We need better run blocking, with or without Noteboom.

Not sure Maher is the answer at kicker.... but the other options out there are not inspiring.

Williams looks very good but he is not a 3 down back. Spot duty today was fine given the emergency circumstances but we need another option ASAP. Rivers is not the answer IMO. If the coaching staff does not feel confident in Evans as a rookie, then I'd ideally like to bring in an experienced bruiser to compliment Williams' style of play and balance the offence's general youth. Fournette fits the bill IMO. If Tom Brady trusted him, that says enough for me. He can also pass block and catch. Tampa's o-line was awful last year so I think he stats don't tell the whole story. I suspect he still has enough gas in the tank to be a 1 year stop gap as part of a committee.
Agreed the Niners are the better team right now talent wise. I think Mcvay can outcoach Ratboy in the playoffs however. We just need a few tweaks to the roster to plug some holes. Kendrick and Jefferson mainly.

I thought we showed a lot of promise on both sides of the ball. We certainly need do do better at making opposing QB's uncomfortable but after 2 weeks I see this team as better than one may expect

Funny you say that about getting more pressure on the QB because it occurred to me during the game that AD could be having a negative effect on young pass rushers because teams just do not go into a game vs the Rams planning on taking a lot of 5 and 7 step drops. They tend to get rid of the ball right away! When they do have to take a deeper drop and wait for the play to develop…

They either miss open receivers or scream, “Oh my God!” as they throw it.

Seriously, you’re right—most people are seeing a better team than what was expected going into this season.

Vent? Why? This team exceeded expectations. They hung in there with an injury free team and one who is expected to go deep in the playoffs.

Nothing to vent or be disappointed about. Moving on to week three.

Part of me wonders if THT might prove a better matchup for Deebo and Aiyuk. Kendrick's lack of long speed makes it difficult for him to stick with those guys one on one. THT's lack of size might hurt us too, but I think he can stick with those two guys in coverage.

Agreed. But I think I would pull Witherspoon off to make room for THT. Kendrick is growing on me goddammit. :laugh3:

We played a pretty good game… not the 2nd half we wanted, and a few too many mistakes down the stretch.

This team has some spunk.

One week at a time.

Go Rams!
