I saw yesterday , that the city of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl filed a lawsuit against UCLA to keep them from moving

then I saw last night , that UCLA said , hos can Pasadena file a lawsuit against something that hasn't even happened

just my guess here , but I'd guess that Pasadena had enough information that the discussions had taken place and gone far enough to warrant a lawsuit

this is just my thoughts now , but I can see both sides

UCLA did sign a extension all the way through 2044 , and the city of Pasadena agreed to upgrade the Rose Bowl , with the understanding would remain tenants , but just how many of those upgrades were based on UCLA alone , I have no idea

and now for UCLA's side , they signed that extension way back in 2014

if someone in 2014 have told you , UCLA would no longer even be in the Pac 12 , of have to pay 20 million dollars in NIL funds to student athletes every year who have even been at your universities for years , you would have asked them what they were smoking

but when it comes to college sports , we live in a whole nuther world

I'm sure when UCLA signed that contract , they could have never envisioned a world were they would travel to Maryland for a conference softball game

something to keep an eye one , one days the Bruins locker room might be right next to the Rams

Give them the Charger locker rooms.

For a short stop on their way back to SD.
Every Charger fan I know would love that as well.
Really sad actually.
When I lived in San Diego the Chargers didn't have the biggest fan base, but, they did have a loyal fan base.
With better ownership there is zero reason that fan base could have been expanded and a nice stadium built to keep them where they were wanted.
Pro football in San Diego??
Man it doesn't get much better than that.
An absolute dream situation that garbage owners turned into a loser.
Terrible ownership.

Spanos reminds me so much of Georgia Frontiere because the team is their revenue stream. Spanos cannot afford or refuses to build something on his own and needs to rely on taxpayer money and in today's day and age, it's outrageous.

New York gave money to keep the Bills, but did not raise the taxed to do it and I still felt that was wrong. San Diego is a great place and deserved so much better.

Well said.

looks like UCLA made the next hurdle

this morning the city of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl went to court to try and get a restraining order against UCLA to stop them from moving

but , the were denied

not sure what the next step is , but I'd guess city of Pasadena and the Rose Bow will keep trying

but for now , sure sounds like UCLA plans on playing at SoFi next year

That would be a good get for the bruins but I hate to see the Rose Bowl lose them as a tenant. Not sure how the stadium can continue on if this goes through. It would suck to not have the Grand Daddy of all bowl games be gone.

the stadium is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark

so I'm sure they'll still have the Rose Bowl game , the thing is , the Rose Bowl just isn't the same

it is now just a part of the college football playoff rotation , but will never host the Championship game , as the Championship game now isn't until like the middle of Jan , and the Rose Bowl will only be played on Jan 1st

but without UCLA there anymore , I would imagine just the upkeep of that building would be pretty substantial

Pasadena is claiming that they are spending millions of tax payers dollars on upgrades with the understanding that UCLA was still going be be playing there for the next 20 years

also sounds like UCLA just wanted to go through private arbitration and just pay Pasadena 80-90 million dollars to get out of their lease

I'm sure Pasadena will probably try taking it to court at least one more time , but I think UCLA is already planing on playing the 2026 season at SoFi

it's up to the lawyers now I'm sure

Really sucks for the Rose Bowl people. But it seems like they were kind of stuck in the 20th Century and they can't compete. When corporate sponsorship became a thing, the RB resisted. When the NFL needed temporary space for 2 football teams, the RB declined to play ball with the NFL and publicly said they didn't want the increased traffic. Mega-concerts that use to be in the RB are now in Sofi. Taylor Swift and the Rolling Stones, who previously performed in the RB, chose Sofi for their recent concerts. U2, which had huge concerts in the Rose Bowl in 2010 and 2017, announced that the grand finale of their farewell tour will be in Sofi in September 2026.

Now, UCLA wants Sofi. The Rose Bowl people want to force UCLA to involuntarily continue playing in the RB. That sounds like the College Football setup to the movie Major League or Georgia F., the College Years. It doesn't sound good for anyone. Of course, a renegotiation of the lease remains a possibility, but whatever.

Regardless, the Rose Bowl can always host motocross.

With or without Michigan and USC

the $2.4 billion private equity deal

the Big Ten was believed were going to vote on it last month, but at the last minute , Michigan and USC said , wait a minute , so there were alot of conference calls , but no vote

but now , as being reported by Ross Dellenger

sounds like the Big Ten is going to vote on it next Friday

with or without Michigan and USC

if Michigan and USC vote no , they simply won't get a piece of the pie

but , it also sounds like Michigan and USC could get a 2 year grace pierced before they are completely left out

it's a little more complicated then that , but I'm not smart enough to try and explain it all

one of the other questions the article says , that I was wondering about

the 2.4 billion would be shared unequally , bigger schools / brands would get more then the smaller schools

there would be a tiers list , and I was unable to find out which schools would be in what tier

untill today , and Ross Dellenger

with this 2.4 billion dollar private equity deal, all schools would get one big payment

Michigan , Ohio State and Penn State would all get 195 million dollars

USC and Oregon would get 145 million dollars

the other 13 schools would each get between 100 -110 million dollars

which I would guess would go a long way for helping UCLA to get out of their lease with the Rose Bowl

guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens , as of the , the vote is said to be taking place next Friday , which could change again

has Michigan and USC changed their minds and play nice

Life marches on. But it is sad. Born in San Diego, I have such a heart for that city, but you need to take a chapter from Stan, Spanos. All-in, or don't own a franchise. It would be great to See the Chargers back in San Diego, where they belong.

I agree.
It is a great city.
I miss it quite a bit.
It is amazing Spanos couldn't make it work in San Diego.
Some guys could mess up a wet dream.....
