I'm assuming there'll be some moving pieces during the bye week. I'd also expect to see some unknowns getting more looks over the last half of the season. I'm not saying we're gonna tank, but I'm also not saying we aren't. We'll have to see what the roster looks like vs the Seashits

Rypien has no business on an NFL roster. He's played terrible in his many chances.
Now we have a legit guy at backup. Better late than never.

Kinda weird, this Wentz signing. The Rams kinda sorta had a hand in ending his career, in the coliseum back in 2018.....

Wentz is a much better qb than Rypien by a mile, but his downfall is the same thing we get mad at staff for except much worse. Dude stands too long in the pocket and tries to force something that isn't there, which usually ends up with him getting injured. We might need another back up behind him.

I think he's a great signing tbh. He's serviceable for a game or two. Generally if your starting QB is out for any extended periods of time your season is generally over.

It does seem like a bit of a clown show. We’re half way thru the season - How could you not see this in practice. Stafford gets hurt alll the time. So it’s not like you could expect to never have to use your backup QB. Even the most reliable injury free QB is one play away from the sidelines. Just kind of looks bad from a roster management side of things. Especially at the most important position. Weird

Or maybe Rypien was a practice field and meeting room hero, but shit the bed when it came to a wet natural grass stadium on the road…

I suspect Wentz got a rep for not taking coaching. When he fell out with Frank, who loved him and then dropped him like a bad habit, his reputation really took a hit.

But maybe he's had enough of a taste of regular life by now to appreciate being on a team and is ready to bust his ass to improve. I can root for the guy if he does that.

I see cutting Rypien and signing Wentz as an indication that they are not tanking.

And why would a team risk a losing attitude to get a maybe?
I've never really seen that work.

I wonder how bad Rypien would be in the lingerie football league? It I'm a QB in that league I prefer to be under center. wink wink

When Wentz came out in the draft he was the classic QB who thinks his college game will 100% translate to the NFL. The NFL is a rude awakening for them. His second year I believe was his best with a steady downward trend after that. It's why I didn't like Wentz in the draft and was very happy when the Rams took Goff.

Mayfield was the same way. It's why he's here. He saw how Mayfield resurrected himself by simply playing McVay's offense. At his age he knows this is his last shot to redeem himself. I can see the Rams signing him through 2025 as a backup. This could put an end to Bennett which is fine by me. The kid had the opportunity he wanted this year and blew it. Hopefully the door won't hit him in the ass.

It's not like he can't make a good living as a backup. It beats working at Taco Bell. He can play another 6-7 years as a backup setting himself up for the rest of his life. Vet minimum for a 7+ year vet is $1.65M per year. If he plays 7 more years at vet minimum that's $11.5 M, So I don't feel sorry for him especially since he's ripped off teams for $128.5 M already. The only problem would be his ego. If he's in LA to actually learn a new way to play the position then spending a year and a half behind Stafford can do him a world of good. Both he and Stafford are that gunslinger type of QB that McVay likes. I'm not saying Carson is the QB of the future but I am saying he can play well in this system and finally learn what he needs to. Mayfield messed up and should have stayed one more year. What he could have learned but didn't is why he's struggling now.

Both Mayfield and Wentz struggle in a multiple option full field read passing offense. It's why they both hold the ball too long and get INTs because they read the defense wrong. If Carson can learn to read the secondary properly and know where his WRs are going to make their breaks he can apply that to any offense.

Case in point is the reason Goff and St Brown have such a good connection is because Jared coached St Brown up on techniques used by Woods and especially Kupp. The same techniques Kupp is mentoring Nacua with. If Wentz is smart he will stay at least through 2024 and learn from Stafford and Kupp. Then when he goes to his next team he will understand things that can make him successful in ways he hasn't been.

If Noteboom and Jackson keep playing at their current level, Wentz may prefer the Taco Bell job.

He's the best signing we could have gotten, that's for sure. Let's just hope we see the good side of Carson Wentz.

LMAO Yeah funny stuff. Like I said Carson has talent. His problem has always been between the ears. He simply needs to chill and understand if it's there throw it. If it's not throw it away. If he simply does that the Rams can win with him if he comes in. The problem is Stafford throws as many INTs as Carson. Both QBs are boom or bust types of players. You don't know whether to hold your breath or hold your nose on each pass.
