first off I think Jared is a talented quarterback but with a very definitive ceiling.

I get that this is only one play but this was one of my main issues with him in Los Angeles. He throws where the primary read is going instead of seeing the entire field. this became a very glaring weakness and in games against the 49ers, the Dolphins, the bills, the Eagles, the Bears, the Jets, the lions and the patriots, this glaring weakness became Jareds Achilles’ heel.

Teams were picking up on his primary read and they knew he would not throw to anywhere else.

one could argue that McVay did not do enough to simplify the playbook, and one could argue that McVay and Snead and Brad holmes for that matter didn’t surround Goff with short throw YAC monsters like Deebo Samuel or George Kittle in order to help Jared reduce his mistakes (look at how well that’s worked for the Niners and their very very limited quarterbacks).

But the point remains that Jared is factually takented but a slow processor, and McVay is a coach that thrives when he has a fearless quarterback who has the patience to see the field. they were never going to work and I think Jared was always going to be in a situation where the team would have to be extra ordinarily good to vie for a Super Bowl. His contract did not make things any better.

I say all that to say: I am happy he is thriving in Detroit, but i don’t miss him.

in my opinion he has shown that his limitations in Los Angeles will always be present and were incompatible with the teams overall goals and vision.

The Lions have surrounded him with a stellar oline and solid running backs and at the end of the day he is a number one pick, he has a talent to thrive in that situation somewhat. but I don’t think he will ever be the guy to take a team over the top.

This mother fucker nailed it on the head 100%! This is what the Goff lovers couldn’t get through their damned head.

Goff has a slow processor. He tends to get stuck on one dude. He has went through progressions before and done very well ( see the Monday night chiefs record breaking game) but he regresses back.

I'd agree that Goff is best in the context of a system. Frankly, he isn't much of a running threat-- if he were, maybe he'd be capable of more "off schedule" plays. But he's not.

But in fairness to Goff, I think there's one aspect where he isn't "the same as he has always been." In his last year (or two) with the Rams, for whatever reason, he was a turnover machine. But he has REALLY cleaned that up. He now owns the 3rd longest streak in NFL history of consecutive passes without an INT. 359 straight passes without an INT! Pretty amazing.

And yeah, he's still got an accurate rocket of an arm for those 20-30 yard intermediate routes.

Agreed that Goff is a "system" QB. But he really seems like he's hitting his prime in his ability to execute.

I agree with this, but would point out that his Oline is one of the best in the league and he isnt being forced into as many situations that could cause the turnovers. He was pretty good when our Oline was protecting him. He has definitely improved and coming into his prime. I am rooting for him.
