Some videos from yesterday's practice. One trend I've noticed in training camp videos is our linebackers getting burned badly in the passing game. Just don't have much talent there in passing game beyond Jones it seems. Makes sense they've started using Lake and Yeast more in mid range. Which isn't anything new from Rapp doing it last couple of seasons I guess.

This, our defense devalues LB other than one necessary off the ball LB. Many snaps will only have Earnest back there and occasionally having a safety-dime-backer which Rapp has played in the past. We will run some 5-2 (and we tried to do more of it when we had Wagner with Jones) but it won't be a huge part of the D as having another on-the-ball player tends to be more important to us.

Still, it would be nice if another backer could show a little more.

Of those 3 videos posted... one play was Rozenboom.... the other was Lake in the box... the other was a DB.

So based on those videos, Rozenboom is the only linebacker in those videos.

And as I've said a bunch.... UDFAs Smenda....Square... and Kelechi are all likely better than Rozenboom... and Hummel has potential

There's a reason we cut Rozenboom and a reason he's been mostly on practice squad.

Web actually do have talent at the ILB position and I believe our preseason games will show that

Christian Rozeboom was considered Rangy sideline to sideline last year. Wonder what happened?

Rozeboom's advantage vs these other guys is his run stuffing ability. He's not gonna be as good as Hummell in his drops or one on one coverage because Hummell's more of that safety conversion and moves a little better. So Rozeboom being ahead makes me think he'll be the guy on run downs or when we're facing a strong run game like SF.

But outside of those run situations we'll have a safety in that pairing I'd think. Bigger concern is the DL as a whole and will we have a good enough rotation to keep those backers clean. Jones is gonna have his work cut out this season.

Is there any point in keeping JAG linebackers over better players at other positions unless they show on special teams? In which case perhaps Hummel > Roz who hasn’t done anything from recall

We need to watch the waiver wire IMO especially for any team loaded at the position

I like Ryan Smenda (spell check)better than both.He was calling place like I posted somewhere.
Roz- from just looking at that clip he got beat makes me think his days are numbered.
-Hummel? The Rams are always going to check the waiverwire.

We should remember that Rozenboom was a practice squad guy with us before we cut him. We brought him back last year when Travin Howard got hurt. We brought him back from the Kansas City practice squad.

Rozenboom has always been a practice squad guy, and occasionally a special teamer when he has been on the active roster.

He's penciled in as our other ILB now because he's the only other guy besides Jones with any NFL experience.

But I just know that the 3 UDFAs rookies we brought in all started at ILB and were captains of their defenses in college. Both Square and Smenda were leaders of defenses in pretty good conferences... and Kelechi was a very sought after UDFA.

All that yo say Rozenboom is who he is, and he's never shown enough in THE NFL for me to confidently say he's not going to be over taken by one of the other guys during this preseason

I like Smendas skill set... Kelechi has the best motor but is a bit undersized... and square is smaller too... but had all the tools and good speed.

I mean we developed Corey Littleton and Troy Reeder... we have a good set of young guys who have an even better skillset than them

After listening to Raheem’s press conference and seeing ”Lake in the Box” in those Stafford videos, it seems like they‘re hoping Lake can take on that Rapp role. But does he have it in him, was he known as a big hitter at UCLA?

He wasn't used much around the LOS that I recall, but he was somewhat physical and a sure tackler. I didn't watch a ton of UCLA but I remember him being solid. There must be some Bruin fans or Alumni on this board with a pretty solid take on this.

He looks big out there & saw him on downs I wasn’t expecting like you’re saying as a LBEr/SS.

—I like #25 a lot he was my guy from Texas Tech that I thought would be a good NFL player. When I saw The Rams picked him up as a UDRFA it was surprising? He has always been a big hitter & had a few TD’s. He even(memory)got kicked out a game ?
Jason Taylor II has shown up in training camp.I am not disappointed by what I’ve seen. He has put a couple Rams Offensive players on there butts.

I think he is a PLAYER who will standout in preseason games.

I'm not sure Rapp had it in him... so perhaps Lake will be an improvement?

If you’d followed Rapp’s career as a Ram you’d be able to tell his short coming’s.Lake is a BIGGER BODY!

I also think penciling in players right now without much NFL experience is silly.

As much as I don’t like LAKE for some reason he seems to proving me wrong. He does make plays, but how consistent is another thing.
As much as player are moving in & out ooff the grass makes it hard to keep up .
—Like I said though is LAKE is coming in consistently as a Dime Package DB ?

Anyone else have an opinion on that ? I mean add that element to 1st. & 2nd string & how fast players are coming on & off the field.
Then add & tell me what number & who these players are in the defensive backfield.

Veteran Ram & BubbaRam sort of FAILED ME!!! Had limited time, wanted to buy them a beer.Thought they had there VIP
seats in front of the DB’s(defensive) field.

Anyways that DB group is going to be FUN.

LMFAO - Sean Mcvay keeps telling us about DK1.He has yet to be at PRACTICE. I’m thinking he might be the next Allen Iverson.
Can’t wait to see Davis Allen though at TE.Talk about a big body in the middle.

If I was drawing up plays & wanted a POWER GAME to close out a game.I might go
Higbee,Hopkins & Davis.Plus Kupp & Akers. Just think of the different options you’d have.

-/If anyone saw training camp & seeing Higbee & Hopkins outwide. I mean those 2 TE’s are going to easily have 1,000 plus yards & 10 TD’s amongst themselves EASILY!!

Any of the above I’ll take on.

Hopkins & Higbee together have 1,000 yards & 10 TD’s in 2023combined.

I have to reinstate that though, because know REPORTERS are TELLING YOU THAT!! CGI honored me a few years ago as a Ram camp reporter.

Higbee is GREAT. Probably The Best Rams (all around) TE as a RAM ? Of my time ?

Jared Cook with his Career numbers in The NFL has better numbers (we’ll compare)

Brycen Hopkins is a player U couldn’t be more PROUD OF!!
I talked crap 2 years ago.Have followed his career as a Ram pretty good. I think he looks GREAT. Coming out of camp is my favorite Ram(underdog) for 2023.

If you look at Jared Cooks career & each season Times each season by 2 you can see how BOLD of a statement I’ve made.
—If you look at each of Tyler Higbee’s numbers & times by 2 you’d say it’s very due able.
Sill a Very Bold Statement I’m sticking with it because I believe DT

Preseason might not be the greatest football but we’ll see future starters playing.

Les Snead said on the Doug Gottlieb Show this week that the plan is for the Rams to play many of their starters, with the exception of obvious players such as Tyler Higbee, Rob Havenstein, Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald and Matthew Stafford.

It will not be like years past but it will be like years past,” he said. “And I know he (McVay) had some names, you know, because we do have players like Rob Havenstein, Tyler Higbee – some players that have been here since our first Super Bowl into the second Super Bowl. So the team does have some core veterans that will get the, let’s call it, ‘non-preseason-play treatment.’ But there is an element of trying to engineer as competent a collective as possible and because we mentioned we’re gonna – let’s talk the defensive side of the ball. There’s a lot of players on their rookie contracts on that side of the ball, other than Aaron Donald, and so we’re gonna need those guys to gel during the preseason.”

This is great news. Increases our odds for the OL being in form for that initial four game stretch. :thumbsup1:
