According to Spotrac and OTC, Higbee's pre-extension contract carried a $9.125M cap hit for 2023; and a $2.85M cap hit in 2024 (voidable year) despite being a free agent.

Will be interesting to see how this extension impacts 2023 and 2024.
Spotrac has not yet up-dated to reflect the impact of Higbee's extension.

However, Over-the-Cap has updated; and based on its numbers, the Higbee extension reduces his 2023 cap hit from $9.125M to $6.4M. That's $2.7M of cap relief in 2023.

Higbee's 2024 cap hit is a robust $11.6M, which is almost $8M more than he would have cost due to a voidable year.

Good for the Beast! And we get a little change back to maybe make a move if we can win a few in a row.

So admittedly I was calling for a Higs replacement to be identified this year and Higs to be dealt next year. I was wrong. He is a strong vet presence greatly needed on such a young team. And despite the west down that occurs each year his contributions during the year would be greatly missed. If the zRams could find a way to use him more sparingly so he’s healthy at the end of the year that would be great. But again I’m admitting I misjudged Higs importance to the Rams.

Spotrac finally up-dated for Higbee's extension, and the numbers are almost identical to OTC (above).

Why would we need cap relief this year?

Unless they plan on signing somebody?

They could sign someone or they may plan to rollover the 2023 remaining CAP for 2024. Re-signing Higbee reduced our 2024 CAP availability by $11.6 Mil., so with the good also comes some of the not so good.
I'd love to trade Noteboom, his $20.M. CAP hit next year is beyond excessive.

Keep saying Fisher didn't slways bomb either. Stubborn fucker wouldn't hire a real offensive coordinator to save his ass. Oh well, at least we ended up getting McVay and a SB win.

I don't think the Higbee extension reduced the Rams' 2024 cap space by that much. Although his 2024 cap hit is $11.6M, Higbee already had a $2.8M Void Year cap hit for 2024. The way Whitworth has been on the Rams' cap for the past two seasons ($2M this year).

So, I believe the increase to the Rams' 2024 cap would be the difference of $8.8M (11.6 - 2.8).

I also think the problem with Noteboom's 2024 cap number of $20M is that if he is released, the Rams would gain just $5M of cap relief, with $15M of Dead-money

I don't know.
Dallas Goedert got a lot of targets on Sunday but for the season, Higbee has more targets than Goedert.

I can agree but...the Rams don't consistently target Higbeast.

On the Philly game...I think they saw they could use Goedert against the Rams defense...just excellent scouting.

In addition to the unused cap rolling over we need money for injury replacements. Also the last few weeks we haven't had a full roster which you can see with us rarely listing 7 as inactive on Sundays.
