Very glad we're keeping him but only mildly surprised. He's a key part to our offense and like others have said there's no experience behind him.

is this designed to free up cash?
It’s interesting, heh! Maybe, considering the RB market, J Taylor can be had for way less than what fans value him at? It would be nice to read that, for a change and not the other way round, Rams trade for a steal

Won't really know until it's reported on or the tracking sites get the info. But it's very likely they restructured the remaining 2023 salary to lower it to pay more the last couple years. That is something we've many times in the past.

Very happy to see this deal. TE room looks a ton better for the future with him in it.

Also... Respect for signing a deal that isn't greedy. He is going to make decent money without needing to sweat whether he can earn it, which is the surest way off this roster.

IMO this means Brycen Hopkins is gone for sure as an UFA next year. In 2024, it'll be Higbee as starter with Long and Davis to back him up.

Hopkins has been pretty much a bust except for one good game. That one good game was an important one, though! :laugh1:

When healthy, he is indeed a beast.

I like this move.

I'm good with this. Higbee is a well rounded tight end. He can block. He can catch passes. Even get some yards after catch. He's a very steady player. It fits what their plans are. They expect to be a playoff team in 2024. And compete for a championship in 2025. When they have a bevy of good young player who will have 3 and 4 years experience.

It feels good to have one less need for next year.

I’d like to see the structure.

Good for Higbee. He's earned his payday and is a very reliable TE. He can block, catch, run routes, and is durable. He is also a deceptively good weapon downfield too, when the Rams choose to send him. IMO, he has more offensive talent than his numbers suggest, and an offense that features TEs more than the Rams' would really see his numbers explode and his talents appreciated league-wide. People forget how highly touted he was as a patch catcher coming out of college. He only dropped in the draft due to character concerns. Some had him graded as a 2nd rounder. This team seems to have difficulty developing TEs, so I am happy to see Higbee sticking around.

I wish more players would think that way.

I remember when the team really needed him at the end of the season a couple of years ago, he exploded with major output. He is only considered solid or 2nd tier because of lack of targets. I totally agree with your statement of him having more offensive talent than his numbers. If used like some of the top TEs he would be way more highly thought of. He is the epitome of we not me. Hence the extension.

The way Moss has stepped in might make them more apt to move him.

The only issue I have with Higbee is that when the playoffs come around - he is usually playing hurt or not at all

I think that has a lot to do with how hard we ride him all season. I’d be curious to see how his snap count compares to other TEs over the last 5-8 years. Dude is out there blocking dlineman or running routes all game long with barely a break.

I agree. I think I probably should have put a qualifier in my statement
