Before FA started I wanted the Rams to go get Risner to ensure if they fuck around in the draft with late additions only to the unit we would still have enough horses up front. But Avila is much better than Risner as an option, I think, more resistant to being pushed into the pocket in pass pro and I think he will help whoever wins LT because he can stone guys 1 on 1.

And even if Dallas had taken Avila I would think, given the Edges that were off the board at that point, that they'd probably still go OL there because the OL board was loaded still. Probably Torrence but there were all kinds of options.

Boom at guard again. Rams never fucking learn with that dude.

I think and I'm guessing, that this is more a function of getting the best 5 on the field and that there are people in the building who think Jackson is the best LT on the roster already. It's not that they don't learn, it's that Boom is just not a blue chipper and they have to figure out what to do with him. They took a chance and gave him the contract and hoped he'd blossom but he can't stay healthy and maybe won't ever blossom so they're left with so so options with him.

Noteboom's likely going to start on the PUP list, though; Achilles injuries are no joke. A-Jax will start for at least the amount of time Noteboom is out, if healthy. If the line shakes out the way you see it, Anchrum, in my opinion, will get the first opportunity at the open guard job, given his veteran status (although Avila and Bruss will certainly compete for it).

Good point. Camp may start with Jax - Shelton - Allen - Anchrum - Hav ... but let's hope that swiftly changes!

Here's hoping A-Jax keeps the starting LT job and Bruss and Avila show out; I don't trust Noteboom or Allen's health, and while Shelton is on a team-friendly deal, I'm not sure on him or Anchrum either (although Anchrum is actually still very young - only twenty-four at the moment). Wouldn't be surprised if Thomas, McClendon, or Arcuri throw their hats in the ring as well.

I think Jourdan is wrong. Snead already said they want two strong OGs protecting the pocket for room for the QB to step up, and alluded to the Saints lines for Brees. That is not Boom.

My comment was sarcastic, should've used blue font.

Jackson fits that at LG possibly. He can resist being pushed back, has a little lead in his ass. But not Boom. That is simply not Boom's game and that will not change.

This is why I keep saying if Boom wins LT we could see Avila at Center. Because then you can move Jackson to guard. But if Boom loses the LT job it's gonna be Avila at LG.

Well what we want and what we have are two different things... let's hope Bruss can show something and Avila comes in ready to take the other guard spot.

I think Avila taking the center spot in his first camp might be a high ask but it's not out of the realm of possibility, we'll just have to see.

A note on Bruss: I went back and watched all his snaps in preseason and was left pretty upset at what I saw with a guy who was totally lost at the position. Then he was injured, lost a year of development. I'm not gonna argue a guy is a bust yet but if I'm being honest with myself, I don't expect him to win a starting spot this year.

Interesting to think when the last time the Rams drafted a good Olineman in the 1st. Probably goes back to Pace, and before that Bern Brostek out of Hawaii where he currently coaches.

Nah I bet Avila will start right away. If Jackson starts at LT, Shelton/Bruss/Anchrum will battle for RG.

Aleric Jackson is a better OLT than Joe Noteboom and that’s likely not even Jackson’s best position. On top of that Joe tore his Achilles tendon. That’s going to be tough for an offensive lineman to come back from.

Allen is toast. His knee is a big problem. How do they go into a season relying on him as the starter? If Bruss isn’t good enough to start at ORG then I guess Allen will start with Shelton at ORG.

The best case scenario is that Bruss wins the ORG spot and performs well. Then that leaves Shelton to play Center, or duke it out with Allen.

Jackson/ Noteboom if he can play
Avila
Shelton/Allen
Bruss/Anchrum/McClendon
