Can we stop with the gadget RBs and get a bruising, tough yardage back?

I think Gibbs is Gurley-esque, without the knee issues. Think how dynamic our offense would become with Stafford, Kupp, and Gibbs leading the way?
Holy Guacamole! That dude does looks as dynamic as TG! Wow! Please make it so Les.

Hope the Rams take the biggest meanest slobbernocker at IOL with the 2nd rounder. Need a mean mofo on the inside of the O line to set the tone in the division. Add strength to the strongest unit, being the offense. Defensive back is the deepest group in the draft, load up with at least 3 DB's at some point.
A guy who fits that description who I wouldn’t mind seeing at No. 36 is O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida.

Got a question for you what OL moves have we made. We resigned a journeyman/barely a starter level in Shelton. Why is the OL in any better shape than the D. They both are horrendous.

yeah i agree with you but we have so many holes on defense now i don't see us using those high picks on anything but defense. The Oline did not lose any players that were good in fact will be getting some injured players back. i think we may draft some late rnd Oline players but more than likely they will be those players that show some potential but are likely to be replaced in 2 or 3 year by the next crop of late rnd picks

Measured in at 5’8, 179 at Combine, where he ran a 4.37 forty and a 1.48 ten yard split (fastest time of any RB).
That is bigger than he was in college, Had a 38" vert too, glad to see him add weight. he would be a fun gadget. All 3 Gibbs, Achane and Mitchell ran very well at the combine.
Here is a graph for anyone that wants to look at it

If it’s OL, JMS. A Center for the future. Neither Allen nor Shelton look like long term solutions.

Otherwise, I’d like to see the Rams draft their new edge guy. I like uzomah and BJO. Nailing this pick would improve the talent depleted roster more than any other single pick at any other position.
THEN draft offense heavy.

Am I the only one who hears the song ‘John Jacob jingleheimer Smith’ in your head when I see name of the center John Michael Schmitz?

I wasn't going to dare bring up DH because I already know the reaction it would bring. They are similar in size and college production. Gibbs is really flashy in space, watching highlights reminds me a bit of how TA would explode off the screen.
I went and looked at game footage to get a better idea of Gibbs, he was used off tackle and outside 70%+ of the time and that is where he really shined. He wasn't anywhere near as productive inside. I just think we need a tougher bigger back, It appears Zach Charbonet would cost less and would be a good fit
Gibbs is a great receiver too but we need an RB that can deal with contact in my opinion, if we were in a different situation I would be more in favor.
I've been thinking that if we really want a back like this why don't we just resign D. Henderson? It won't cost us any picks and especially our highest pick and he already knows the offense.
Plus I think he was humbled a bit last year when he was cut by JACKSONVILLE(!) after we let him go. That's enough to mess with anybody's head.
Just my .02

I'm becoming more fully against Gibbs at 36 and absolutely not for trading up to get him. Someone mentioned this was a very deep DB back draft, and I agree, but its arguably as deep at quality RB's. Trading up for a RB on a team that needs so much would be a terrible mistake. The 5th round is a perfectly good round to add a back to our team and he's going to be talented. I'm really only for 3 positions at 36 Edge, IOL (prefer C but Torrance would be nice), or CB. Those are massive glaring holes and outside of IOL, are extremely valuable position in the NFL that regularly get paid 20m+ when they are good. Hitting on a rookie at those positions is a homerun.

Sure, the Rams can get a RB later in the draft. But, Gibbs in not just another RB. Gibbs is a weapon. Like Marshall Faulk, Gibbs can line up wide like a receiver and torch defenders. He's a MAJOR MATCHUP problem for opposing defenses and could open things up for everyone on offense.

That said, the loss of Floyd makes his selection very unlikely. now, But, iMO, only Edge defenders Will McDonald IV (Iowa State) or maybe Felix Anudike-Uzomah (Kansas State) should be considered at #36 besides him. Otherwise, I hope Snead is able to trade down.

Ideally, I'd love to see the Rams select Gibbs in the 2nd round and follow it up with another matchup problem in FB Hunter Luepke later in the draft. Imagine these two in the backfield and then Gibbs motions out wide. Who is going to cover him?

With the FB on the field defenses would almost have to keep an extra LB and not a nickel DB on the field. Not only is this passing game matchup problematic for defenses, but once they get that extra body out of the box, Luepke could also be rushing option forcing business decision by defenders. And he'd be an asset in the passing game, too.

I would be very happy with a bruiser like Charbonnet for the record. But it is hard to imagine McVay signing off on that. Just not his type. Well, not his type until he trades for one midseason to get the offense back on track. :laugh4:

Edge Will McDonald Iowa State
6'3" 240 lbs, 4.6 speed, 35" arms

He has a nonstop motor, with good length with long arms to insure tackles and strip balls. Will has lethal speed, with a wicked spin move, plus a number of counters and good hand play. Elite production in 3 years, 122 tackles, 39.5 TFL, 33 sacks, 9 FF, and 7 pass deflections. He plays with good balance. This guy is a rookie starter. He is exactly who you look for to replace Floyd at JACK as he has the speed, length, and athleticism to drop into coverage.

His biggest need is to strengthen and bulk up a bit but not so much it impacts his speed and athleticism, probably 5-7 lbs. The difference between McDonald and Hardy is that McDonald is coming in as a much more developed and polished player. Hardy has the same potential but came in viewed as a 2 year project player which dropped him in the draft.

McDonald has the tremendous athleticism which Snead and McVay value. He's got all the earmarks of an impact player in the NFL.

Isn’t Tuli Tupilotu considered a round two pick? He looks like a good edge rusher. He dropped weight and had a great pro day.

I wonder if we do pick Gibbs in the 2nd round, if Akers will cry like a baby and demand a trade?
For saying that the Rams supposedly are very careful to vet college players for having the right mental acuity and attitude, I’d say they graded on a curve when it came to Akers.

Just curious. Which players do you think will be drafted ahead of 36 at edge, that the Rams won’t have a shot at, but you wish they could?

I don't recall him having any issues of that type at FSU.
