Man, I would be really surprised if a healthy Brian Allen was not re-inserted to start at Center.I think Allen is done as a starter. He hasn't been able to stay healthy, and I value his play last year but let's be honest here the guy was not a top half player at the pivot and he is too small to play guard. Shelton has a year left on his contract and is similar to him without the injury concerns and probably better in the run game. So I'm guessing you are right and they will keep Shelton in the job as long as he can stay healthy.
Never been a fan of Allen, beginning with the Rams reaching in the 4th round. Always seemed small, without a strong base. Didn't like him in 2019, then he did not play in 2020. Surprised be became the starter in 2021; and very pleasantly surprised that he played well enough and the Rams was successful.
When the Rams faced the prospect of losing 5-of-their-top-7 OL, I was just happy they resigned three and only lost Corbett and Whitworth. Wished they had signed James Daniels, and let Allen go. Was happy they did not break-the-bank on Allen. But Snead and McVay did not take my calls.
I Know! ... Rude ... Right!?!
Never-the-less, the Rams seem to like him; and I expect him back at Center once (and if) he is healthy.
