Unfortunately the injuries have probably made Evans less expendable at this point. For Atlanta they put him in as a TE for a sort of jumbo package 3 times if I remember correctly. That seems to be his job now and probably will be until Jackson isn't a starter. I'd suspect if Jackson didn't have to play OG he would have been in for those plays instead of Evans.

True enough that Evans is probably less expendable, but imo he can be less expendable from the practice squad rather than the 53. jmo.

I’d stick with Jackson at RG and Shelton at Center. Shelton was playing great at Center and Jackson’s size at guard made him tough to push around.

I agree with not messing with what seems to be working, and Jackson looked good at RG while Shelton has performed well in the past at Center and LG. Thing is though that McVay will not replace Shelton for Allen as he has always been reluctant in allowing injured players to lose their starting positions, and Allen will be returning fairly soon. jmo.

I just realized that Oday Aboushi has blocked for Matthew Stafford for 2 seasons so there is a past with these two....appears Aboushi was playing LG for the Lions in this photo. Sorta reminds me of when McVay brought with him a washed-up injured 32 yr old center back in 2017. John Sullivan started 35 games for the Rams & helped them play in an SB during the 2017 season.

Ex-Lions offensive lineman signs with Los Angeles Rams

Oday Aboushi, an offensive lineman who started eight games at right guard for the Detroit Lions in 2020, has signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Aboushi was signed to the team’s practice squad last week. He was signed to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, per the league’s transaction wire. Los Angeles has seen injuries hit the interior of its offensive line, so Aboushi could have an opportunity to see action. The 31-year-old spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons in Detroit. Aboushi appeared in 23 games while earning 10 starts during his tenure here.

Sean McVay is glad Rams were able to sign Oday Aboushi: 'That's a big deal'

The Los Angeles Rams have experienced a multitude of injuries along the offensive line in the first two weeks of the season, leading them to sign Oday Aboushi to the practice squad last week. When speaking about the current state of the offensive line, Sean McVay raved about the Rams being able to sign Aboushi.

“That’s a big deal, to be able to get him. He’s a guy that has a bunch of starts in this league. A tough, physical competitor,” McVay said on the “Coach McVay Show.” “Really enjoyed the way he handled himself, I thought he did a nice job this past week just immersing himself into our culture and our team. He’s definitely a guy we have confidence that could step up and be available.”

Aboushi signed with the Rams’ practice squad last week, but due to the season-ending injury to Tremayne Anchrum Jr. and Brian Allen being sidelined, the team has already promoted him to the active roster. Given the lack of depth the Rams now have in the trenches, the veteran offensive lineman could find himself starting sooner rather than later.

Throughout his eight seasons in the NFL, Aboushi has played both guard spots, giving the Rams options in the interior of their offensive line. Aboushi has played with six different teams, with the latest being the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021, where he made five starts at right guard.

The positive part about signing Aboushi is that he’s made 47 starts in his career, so he’s accustomed to being a starter in the NFL. While the offensive line of the Rams has looked out of sorts to begin the season, McVay is confident that Aboushi can provide the team a much-needed boost in the interior amid all of the injuries.

professional career--From Wikipedia

New York Jets[edit]

The New York Jets selected Aboushi in the fifth round, with the 141st overall pick, of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Jets signed him to a four-year rookie contract on May 10, 2013; financial terms were not disclosed.[4]

Aboushi was inactive in 2013 for all 16 regular season games with the Jets. In 2014, he started 10 games after the starter was injured.[5]

Aboushi was suspended without pay (about $34,400) for the first game of the 2015 season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, in August 2015.[6][7][8] Aboushi was released by the Jets on September 15, 2015, one day after his suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy ended.[5]

Houston Texans[edit]

The Houston Texans claimed Aboushi off of waivers on September 16, 2015.[9]

Seattle Seahawks[edit]

On March 17, 2017, Aboushi signed with the Seattle Seahawks.[10] He started eight games at right guard before suffering a dislocated shoulder injury in Week 15. He was placed on injured reserve on December 13, 2017.[11]

Oakland Raiders[edit]

On July 28, 2018, Aboushi signed with the Oakland Raiders reuniting him with his previous year offensive line coach Tom Cable.[12] He was released on September 1, 2018.[13]

Arizona Cardinals[edit]

On October 23, 2018, Aboushi signed with the Arizona Cardinals.[14]

Detroit Lions[edit]

On March 14, 2019, Aboushi signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Detroit Lions.[15] On March 27, 2020, he re-signed with the Lions.[16] He was released during final roster cuts on September 5, 2020,[17] but re-signed with the team the next day.[18] He was fined $5,221 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness in Week 2.[19]

Los Angeles Chargers[edit]

On March 20, 2021, Aboushi signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.[20] He was named the Chargers starting right guard for the 2021 season. However, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 5 and was placed on season-ending injured reserve on October 12, 2021.[21]

Los Angeles Rams[edit]

On September 14, 2022, Aboushi signed with the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams.[22] He was promoted to the active roster six days later.[

I'm at a loss as to why Bobby Evans would have any value to the Rams at this point. I'd rather move Brewer or Arcuri up to the 53 than maintain Evans for the remainder of the season.

If I was allowed to draw up a depth Chart for our OL once Allen returns, it would likely look like this :

LT) Noteboom, Jackson
LG) Shelton, Aboushi
C) Allen, Shelton
RG) Jackson, Aboushi
RT) Havenstein, Edwards

Kolone back to our practice squad and I'd rip 49'ers practice squad Center Keith Ismael off of their practice squad and give Kolone some competition.

jmo.
I don’t see the center thing happening. My hope is Shelton & A’Jackson keep improving & solidify there Starting spots. Brian Allen being the backup Center.I just like Shelton better NOW.It started when Brian Allen got hurt & Shelton IMO proved himself as a starter, but as a guard he is a little small. He is a better guard than Allen though.
Kolone knows the Offensive Line calls. That is his value.

IMO , not knowing much about Oday that he is a perfect as a LT(RT) swing player.
I really like A’Jackson becoming my favorite player because of his growth & persona. Just a cool cat.Not a Fan of his though at LT. He fills that RG spot well.
You ask about Bobby Evans. I don’t know the answer.I think he is a fit at RT & LG. My guess is Oday is more a backup at LT mainly for now.If Noteboom goes down The Rams don’t want to move Bobby Evans there.
IMO - A’Jackson just size alone will be hard to move out of that starting RG spot. Moving forward having a bigger RG who you can just pencil in for the next 2 to 3 seasons would be nice.

Aboushi looks like the definition of a journeyman... and there's NOTHING wrong with that. Rams need a guy who's got some experience.
Who knows, though? Edwards has pretty much sucked... maybe the Rams found a guy at the right time.. he was set to be a starter last year.

Here’s my two cents worth…

1. I’m in the camp that suspects that Shelton is the better OC over Allen. Therefore he’s the new starter and Allen becomes the backup. I’m serious.

2. Jackson did a helluva job at RG so I could see him as the new starter there. But he’s also considered swing OT if Boom or Hav suffer injury. What to do? Currently, I do think Jackson is among Rams ‘best 5’ on that OL.

3. Super bummer about losing both Bruss and Anchrum. Life ain’t fair sometimes. Geez… Rams OL moves would certainly be a whole lot easier if those 2 were still healthy.

4. How Evans remains on this roster is beyond me. Does he have incriminating pictures? I cringe at the very thought of Evans coming in to play.

I don't expect any of my OL post to happen, it was meant as wishful thinking. McSnead doesn't really target other teams practice squad players much, although Ismael would be a fun 'get' as he has a wealth of 49'er offensive playbook knowledge. McVay won't replace Edwards at LG even though we may have a better option & Shelton won't replace Allen at Center because McVay doesn't replace returning formerly injured players.
Our 2023 OL will see some pretty radical changes though as Bruss returns at RG, Edwards & Evans will be gone thru free agency, Anchrum will compete for first man up as our swing OG, Shelton will compete for LG and Aboushi/Brewer may or may not stick with the Rams as they also enter free agency.

If the interior of the line continues to improve and can get an actual push in the run game, it may be hard to just throw Allen back in.
At worst.. this will mean they'll give Allen more time to get his knee right.
I say you keep Jackson on the field if he's one of your best five and you worry about replacing an injured Noteboom if/when that happens.
Yup.. injuries suck. One interesting thing, though... think about the competition for the guard spots next year between Shelton, Jackson, Anchrum and Bruss (although, who knows.. maybe Shelton will be locked-in at center by then).

I admire a person who sets-the-bar Low.

As someone who has been making mock drafts & dabbling in politics for years, I've become accustomed to the standards others have set, almost always radically different from my own thoughts.

My added 2 cents on yours:

First I agree with Your #1 cent. Center Brian Allen has already made it clear that he is injured prone & still not healthy in that surgically reconstructed knee. He is still out. No need to make any change to this OL now even if he returns to some kind of health in that knee I would give it some additional time to get strong & better. Let Allen be the backup OC until an emergency happens where OL'er Coleman Shelton is needed elsewhere.

Your #2 cents....also in agreement. Alaric Jackson has shown surprising effectiveness in emergency situations in being inserted into the OL during times of game day :emergency:intense stress & crisis. In the end, his graded conclusion is, Alaric Jackson passed the tests very well:clap::thumbsup1:! IMO he has earned the starting position @ RG. Let this OL'er remain the same post as it was with the Falcons make no changes.

On the issue where our reserve LT is starting inside???......I would suggest elevating PS rookie LT AJ Arcuri to fix that concern & when Brian Allen is ready to back up Shelton send OC Jeremiah Kolone back to fill Arcuri's PS position.

I think Allen is done as a starter. He hasn't been able to stay healthy, and I value his play last year but let's be honest here the guy was not a top half player at the pivot and he is too small to play guard. Shelton has a year left on his contract and is similar to him without the injury concerns and probably better in the run game. So I'm guessing you are right and they will keep Shelton in the job as long as he can stay healthy.

Anchrum being hurt so quickly was such a disappointment. You have to be able to log games at this level as a lineman, otherwise you're depth. So I feel bad for the guy, given how long he waited for a shot like this. He has a year left with us but they're going to be leery with him in their planning now and he'll have to re-prove himself and hope things align for a look like that. Shitty.

Jackson is probably well served with a year starting at RG. If he can do that, there is no guarantee he can play well plus avoid injury of course. But if he does then it will help him if they elect to have him compete at LT in the offseason. Lot of games to go there to see how things sort but you can see with Jackson a tendency to show the F up and get through games with good results every time they have thrown him in there. Jackson is a gamer. We could use a couple more depth types like him in fact and personally I hope he ends up being our long term LT because I want a strong left side run game.

I see Allen back as a started when he is healthy. I still wonder if his knee was a problem during camp? Another drawback to not playing your starters at least a half during the preseason. He didn’t come out of game 1 so it couldn’t have been that bad.

I’d leave Jackson in at RG for game 3 to see how they look and then figure out which is best Allen/ Shelton or Shelton/Jackson. Pretty sure it will be the first option against the niners.

I like this. Limited player but sound in technique, or was when he was coming out. He was good at sealing guys with their own movement like Whit would do. Nice to see him added and they should always have a center in development on that PS. :thumbsup1:
Has some good starting experience with the Ravens. Could see him active when up to speed on the scheme.
