I don't think he is necessarily soft or lacking competitiveness but he doesn't appear to be particularly instinctive or a natural hands catcher.
His production has been decent before this season but you can tell he struggles on occasion tracking the ball and with his hand position catching it. Almost like he is still thinking too much which is not what you want to see from a fourth year player.

Was it the SF game where he dropped a walk in TD?

If the Rams knew they were not going to resign Van, this move could be good for Van in a contract year. That may have played into this decision.

Love Puka , but I don’t think he’s a guy like Metcalf , Pickens , or Adam’s. That’s what I meant by a big body that can win in a 50/50 situation.
With all due respect, none of those guys have done what Puka has during their first 5 games.

Decisions for next year are being made weekly. Akers was given the opportunity to be the man this year and next year but he didn’t impress in off season or game 1 (22carries for 29 yds) so gone. Jefferson was given a chance to WR2 this year and beyond but Nacua/Atwell beat him out by a mile in week 1/2 so gone. Is Note next? Maybe but we do need enough OL to get Stafford thru the season so probably not.

Not following your point Steezy.
There will be a point in time where it may bite us in the ass. VJ was good insurance for this team, but since he is substracted from the equation we will see how much he was to us.

My point is that the Rams have seen what Jefferson could do with Kupp (or Nacua) out; and it was not good. With Kupp on short-term-IR for the first four games of this season, Jefferson failed to produce.

Many of us expected Jefferson to step-up as the #1 WR in Kupp's absence; and hoped that Nacua and Atwell would contribute. However, it was Nacua that filled the #1 WR role, and he was great. Atwell was solid. Jefferson ... UGH!

With Kupp out-of-action, Jefferson totaled 8 catches and 108 yards in 4 games. That's 2 catches and 27 yards per-game. Jefferson was targeted just 15 times in four games. That means he was either not getting open, or Stafford lacked confidence in him ... or Both! Furthermore, Jefferson's poor route running contributed to two of Stafford's interceptions.

We really got nothing for him but he was the odd man out. Struggled big time with consistency he'd make a great catch then botch a couple easy ones.

Yeah, all that is good but I would at least think we would get another player in return… not much difference between a sixth round draft pick and a seventh round draft pick. Seems like the Falcons got the better part of this deal.
Precisely. As much as he wasn’t ultimately a good fit in LA, he has talent and has started nearly two full seasons worth of games and thats not worth a sixth rd pick?

WTF.

Wouldn’t we get a comp pick if we hold on to him and he then signs elsewhere when his contract expires at the end of the season?

1) Per Jourdan, Rams are probably not gonna be looking at many comp picks next few years cause they'll be spending so much money in free agency.
2) What kind of contract would he get if he barely played the rest of the year that would warrant a comp pick?

I have us taking a top LT in the upcoming draft, using our 1'st pick. That won't stop me from using our 3'rd rounder on a top C/OG though. Shelton will be moving into his 'contract' year in 2024, and hanging on to Brian Allen's contract no longer makes since. Anchrum is likely lost to free agency and re-signing Dotson is not guaranteed. Our Center/OG roles could lack quality depth next year if we don't address it.
I have a RB coming to us in the 2'nd round, and an elite Edge by way of trade/free agency.

Speaking of Shelton haven’t seen no news of him yet? Injury?

Have you?
