Ferguson is the best raw talent we've added to this team at TE in a long time. As frustrating as it is to see him not be able to play yet, I will say that our TE room has come a long way. This is by far the best TE room McVay has had in LA.He must absolutely suck at blocking because Higbee looks old. Ferguson could give them a real shot in the arm and take away some of the workload off of Nacua. He would give them a TE that could break tackles and get some deep crosses. He could really open up the offense.
On the Rams best drive today they hit Parkinson a couple of times, it's just a catch and fall to the ground when our TEs catch a ball though. Ferguson could change that.
Higs does look old but he's a very good all rounder who can do it all for you. Parkinson getting playing time is a nod to his experience, and he's been a disappointment as a signing but there seems to be a comfort zone there for the staff. Allen is our second best TE and over this early schedule has played very well.
But I agree Ferguson is potentially a different threat than those guys. If he could get on the damn field it probably wouldn't take long for Stafford to feed him because he's got that size and agility combination you want in a TE pass game weapon. He is a potential chain mover and possession threat, which is something Higs has never been and Parkinson will never be. I don't want to rule that out for Allen, but he doesn't look like a difference maker either so is more in line with the others.
I figure when Ferguson convinces the staff that he knows what's up, we'll start seeing him out there. And if it takes him longer than let's say the midseason point to do that, then he's probably not going to be special. May not be true historically, but I am of the mind that to be a special TE it requires some showing right away.
