He must absolutely suck at blocking because Higbee looks old. Ferguson could give them a real shot in the arm and take away some of the workload off of Nacua. He would give them a TE that could break tackles and get some deep crosses. He could really open up the offense.

On the Rams best drive today they hit Parkinson a couple of times, it's just a catch and fall to the ground when our TEs catch a ball though. Ferguson could change that.
Ferguson is the best raw talent we've added to this team at TE in a long time. As frustrating as it is to see him not be able to play yet, I will say that our TE room has come a long way. This is by far the best TE room McVay has had in LA.

Higs does look old but he's a very good all rounder who can do it all for you. Parkinson getting playing time is a nod to his experience, and he's been a disappointment as a signing but there seems to be a comfort zone there for the staff. Allen is our second best TE and over this early schedule has played very well.

But I agree Ferguson is potentially a different threat than those guys. If he could get on the damn field it probably wouldn't take long for Stafford to feed him because he's got that size and agility combination you want in a TE pass game weapon. He is a potential chain mover and possession threat, which is something Higs has never been and Parkinson will never be. I don't want to rule that out for Allen, but he doesn't look like a difference maker either so is more in line with the others.

I figure when Ferguson convinces the staff that he knows what's up, we'll start seeing him out there. And if it takes him longer than let's say the midseason point to do that, then he's probably not going to be special. May not be true historically, but I am of the mind that to be a special TE it requires some showing right away.

The TE position seems to take some time to transition from college to the pros, I'm not worried about this kid. Remember, "In Snead we trust ".

Really great take on the situation.
If the three guys in front of him weren't performing, I'd be REALLY worried.. but all three have been pretty decent.

One of the biggest reasons I want him to get PT is related to your angle on him being a chain-mover: I want Puka to last. As incredible as it is to see Puka's numbers, I don't think that kind of usage is sustainable with the way they use him. So many of his receptions are like running carries when it comes to the number and types of hits Puka takes. Let's spread some of that around with an athletic, 255 pound target.

Except all other TE's drafted around him are playing and contributing to their teams (M.Taylor, Arroyo, Fannin). McVay just gets excited about drafting his offensive toys to the detriment to the team building philosophy. Can't tell me that drafting Ferguson instead of a CB that could be starting for us is wise decision making. Or sticking and picking our future OT (Simmons).

Hopefully Ferguson gets some playing time soon and shows us what McVay was so excited about.

And his stats were eleven receptions for eighty-five yards and a single touchdown.

Give Ferguson the same time Higbee got, and you'll see a kid who could just as good, if not better.
That's a different subject, you had said Higbee didnt play much when in fact Higbee started game #1 of his rookie year and played all year. Ferguson hasnt even been active, there's no comparison.
With McVay, some rookies play right away and some toil on the bench all or most of the season. Lets hope he's somewhere in between because we could sure use some solid TE play

Gerald Everett 2nd rounder was hardly used his first year.
Everett played in all 16 gms, starting in 2.

16 rec 244 yds. 2 TD
32 targets
His snap count was 297 which of course includes contributions on ST.

If Fergs can match those numbers we should all be high five’ing each other. Although, that ‘17 team had a prime Higs and more depth at WR.

Something’s going on. Could be he isn’t as football smart as they’d hoped, or he isn’t working hard enough. I doubt he’s a head case.

He needs to get in there and be a ST guy at the very least at this point.

Everett had 297 offensive snaps, he had an additional 39 ST snaps
Even Davis Allen had 192 offensive snaps
I sure hope there's a good reason for Ferg's lack of contribution.
