They have some big ass pass catchers. If they had a QB that could consistently drive the ball down the field they’d be a real problem.
I agree completely. I actually think they would be a real problem with a difference-maker on the D-Line and an upgrade or two on the O-Line.
We can say what we want as homers for our own team, but there's a reason that we played the Panthers twice to a 1-1 record with a total point differential of 0!
I'd go as far as to say that the Rams defense is the only unit that seriously played better than in the 1st game!
Stafford was just a hair off in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and that was all that was necessary for the Panthers to hang around. Puka saved him from another 2-pick game; Stafford was 10-21 at one point after starting like 9-9 or 10-10.
They were very efficient running the ball in the 1st half especially. McVay maybe could have run it a touch more there, but it wasn't horribly skewed; pass-to-run was like 21-17 around halftime.
Puka dropped a sure TD as well, which is very unusual for him. I've come to expect him to be clutch as per usual.
The real takeaway for me is that even with all of that, we still won. We are literally good enough that we could end up stumbling our way to another Super Bowl title without ever putting a complete game together representative of our potential!
Our boys on O made the plays when they really needed it.
McVay's run/pass balance was only an issue because of the 6-play drive right before halftime that ended in a 4th & 3 turnover on downs in the red zone due to an incomplete pass (after having runs go for 7, 8, 7, and 1 yards, respectively). He then followed that up with a three-and-out to open the 3rd quarter where three straight passes to Devonte fell incomplete.
The defense stopped three 4th down conversion attempts, forced 3 punts, a field goal, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, 8 QB hits, and had a pick. All of which served to greatly mitigate our four punts, an interception, a blocked field goal, and a failed fourth down conversion in the red zone!
Yeah, we're good even when we don't REALLY play great ball!
