It’s interesting that McVay just said he hadn’t spent any time looking at QBs in this draft. Misdirection? Or is it that others are handling that position and he’s paying attention to other spots?
I don't believe anything McVay says as it pertains to players and strategies related to them. He's just too good at not giving up information.
The better approach I think is to completely ignore what he says and look at the Rams QB situation. Old QB with hard miles, his play fell off statistically after an epic title run for the ages (had to do with OL as well but still), and he has been upset with his contract for the past two offseasons.
I could also add that McVay is the type of personality who is never satisfied. He is always pushing to improve everything, which can create fatigue with his outlook on players (once he loses faith in them it's done), as well as their ability to endure his BS. Dude is brilliant but taxing I am sure.
So would he be interested in a young signal caller who has the basic tools and handles pressure well? Of course. Yes. Question is whether he vibed with him in the whiteboard session though. I think the working relationship is key in how he'll make that selection.
