In a recent podcast interview Jourdan Rodrigue (who is fairly well locked-in) expressed real concern about Havenstein's shoulders (off-season clean-up surgeries) and his ability to hold-up for a full season.

If Humphries is here to provide additional depth and insurance ... GREAT!
If the two recent veteran OT signings represent more of a genuine concern that Havenstein's health may be compromised ... that Ain't So Good.
Search your memory banks, don't leave us hangin'....

Did Jourdain express her concerns during this interview (posted below)? If so, do you recall approximately when during the podcast she mentions Hav?

I care enough to ask the question. I don't care enough, however, to watch the entirety of the 40 minute podcast to find out.

Holy crap, how did you do that? Very cool. I take it that an app is needed to provide AI transcription?

I was relieved to hear that Jourdain only mentioned her concern about Rob's shoulders very briefly. It seemed like more of a "common sense concern" based on his age and toughness and the way his shoulders have been absorbing impact for so long. To me, it didn't sound like she had any inside info regarding any "unexpected setbacks" in his recovery.

So yeah, fingers crossed, Rob should be good to go to be starting at RT in the season opener.

Let's hope you're right, it did sound like no one on the tackle depth chart took a step forward after this offseason as gleaned in OTAs though and that's a disappointment.

Youtube is doing AI transcripts, you can usually find a link in the comments section. There not great but easy enough to find what you're looking for... a more popular video you could probably have Chat just spit the info back at you.

Havenstein has 5 months to heal up. Humphreys is a former first rounder who was a pro bowler just a few years ago. He does have an injury history but should be healed up himself.
My biggest worry is that he was dumped by Kansas City. Is Kansas City that deep at OT that they can afford to ditch him or do they know something we don't?
Will be missing a whole lot of strength this season.

We are better off with this player added to our depth chart. Beyond that well let's hope our tackles stay healthy.

Great question. Without knowing more than a casual non-fan of KC (i.e., watching them implode in the Super Bowl), I would assume that they are looking for long-term solutions on their OL. Whereas we are looking for a quality backup to get through the season. Will be an interesting side story to track throughout the season.

Worth noting that we were in position to draft OT had we wanted to several times in April and chose not to, so they can't be that concerned about OT depth. Assuming nothings changed during OTAs of course.

This is a great pickup, and one I called because it made so much sense

This is a low-risk, high-reward move, because if it works out, you have your backup left tackle this season as well as going forward. DJ is a huge veteran presence with pro-bowls on his CV

The SB window is not just wide open; we are talking about a big window especially with two 1st round picks next year

It's such a joy to follow this team and front office :)

Agree that Humphries is viewed superior than Quessenberry. Regardless, I'd hate for either to be a starter for an extended period of time. Too bad we don't have a good developmental backup but it is what it is. Thats why for me, its a meh signing. As usual for any signing or addition I'm not wild about, I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong lol
Both are likely to be better than what they had for tackle depth So to me it’s an upgrade.

They’d have to use some high draft picks to get better depth than two experienced, former starters. Which I’d rather they not have to do. If they used a second round pick or a late first I’d want it to be for a starter.

I personally love this move to improve the backup OT position. There are not many quality players available at this time and Humphries is a proven player, at a position that the Rams had some serious depth concerns. How many times must I say it; "In Snead we trust".

If the guy was a former #1 pick, started every game he has ever played in AND made one Pro Bowl he seems to be far from a JAG to me.
Good signing, I will take it.
I disagree, he was dumped by a needy KC team, that speaks volumes. What round a player is drafted doesn't mean much. Humphries being signed so late and well after free agency screams JAG to me. With that said, I'll say he's better than our other JAGs at OT. I personally hope he only fills in every great once and awhile because if any of our starters go down at OT, we'll be in some doo doo. Guess my meh reaction to it is just different than some but that's ok. As I said earlier, I'd be more than ok if I'm completely wrong about this signing. Any player that over exceeds expectations only helps the Rams in the long run.

I agree its an upgrade but for me, just not so substantial that it makes the Rams way way better. What we truly need is for our starters to stay healthy. Unfortunately this new news about Jackson scares the shit out of me. Sucks that he's got blood clot issues as I remember him missing a whole year with that crap.

I had already done that. Forwarded the link, and noted the time. Pay Attention! There will be a test.

See that another poster already helped you out. Unfortunately (as you have probably seen) this is a LT issue.

Sigh - guess the doctors will be putting him on blood thinners again.

Not a good sign.

It should (scare you). I think it was half of the 2022 season.
