Fair enough.

It's ironic though - if he keeps getting the results he's getting with this D that he has thus far, some of us will be rethinking our position and wanting him to stay ... and if he stunk it up (like I think he did last year) I'd be wanting him gone. Definite Catch-22.
Why not have the best of all worlds. Morris leaves for a job, we get the picks. We get Evero. Evero will get some sniffs at HC this year but not sure he gets a job. Dude had an all world D in Denver last year and the only reason they won there (he also evolved the Fangio D in novel and interesting ways).

Seemed to be doing some good things with the Panther's D early this year but then injuries and such took their toll.

Staley would be my third choice. I think the argument of taking all the HC stuff off his plate could return him to form is vaild but not sure how much I put stock in it.

What a few of us have been saying for a couple years now is he really didn't have the horses to run a defense. We're seeing this year some solid play by the secondary other than Witherspoon who I hate to say I knew based on his history would revert to this shitty fiorm. He was the worst player in the uniform today even with our kicker missing a FG and his other kicks. He's got these kids and AD playing great and some will never appreciate the coaching he's doing this year and last.

I made a comment in the chat room maybe some will remember it in there but at the end of the first half Schwartz, who a lot of Morris' critics will and have absolutely loved on, allowed us the sidelines all drive down to score points. These same people that shit on Morris and love Schwartz won't acknowledge what was done today but they absolutely wanted to crucify Morris for exactly that against Tampa last year.

The biggest thing to consider here, is that this season we aren't giving the opposing offense a 10-15 yard cushion on every single play. And imagine, the results are different when we don't do that? If it wasn't for the last few years and those horrible cushions, almost no one would be calling for him to be fired. This season has almost got me wishing he could stick around, but if he gets a job, then good for him.

I think Staley would be a better hire than Evero because nobody is going to touch Staley with a ten foot pole as head coach for a while. So hiring him you get a guy who is strong schematically in the Fangio scheme but who you don't have to worry about replacing if he kills it. And guys who get fired as HCs often kill it when they slot back to coordinator. Probably because it's so simplified in comparison they just get to work and deep dive that scheme.

But I'd be fine with Evero if McVay goes that route. One thing I don't think people realize is that McVay is very knowlegeable with that defensive side of the ball. He gets all in there to understand the rules so he can scheme against it. Everyone knows he wanted to run the Fangio system but he also wanted to know the rules by having a disciple in house so he could cook up shit to work vs it.

So whoever he hires on defense will almost surely be strong. I suspect this year though that he's going to need to promote from within. Because he has two position coaches who are killing it (Henderson and Pleasant). And Pleasant is the passing defense coordinator so he's integral to the back end that has kicked ass in spite of not too much pressure support. This means Morris takes one with him, and the other might leave too I'd expect if the DC job isn't offered.

Good points... I think we can probably start moving away from talking about the Fangio system though... so many guys (like Evero and Morris, now) have started to iterate from it that in a year or two it will evolve so much there will only be the bones of it.

Hell, apparently we two-gap our NT! Grrrrr.
