Stealing Henderson from the Chargers was a massive theft. Have to think if they had him their defense would have performed better.

It isn't just the DC. Talent matters and so does the coaching quality on the staff. One strength of McVay is his eye for coaches.

Staley did a great job for us that season. But he also got schooled in the playoffs. Morris underachieved last season but won us a title. Wade almost won a title with us and got ditched so McVay could bring in the desired scheme.

I think the Rams staff had a lot of advantages for all three of them. And it will again for whover is next.

Got it.

I just don’t think that’s a Morris-only issue.

They didn’t bring in anyone who can actually play the position right now, other than Young.

Best in a group of bad options, imo.
That's the point, he isn't even in that group and we know McSnead empower their coordinators/position coaches in the draft process.

I’m not understanding the first part.
But they drafted 3… and 2 of them aren’t good enough to beat Hoecht.

Hoecht had obvious warts.. but is significantly better than the other rostered OLBs,

They tried.

I disagree but it's all good. Not the first time we've disagreed won't be the last :)

There are plenty of great coordinators who flamed out as HCs.

Spags has 4 rings as a DC, possibly heading for his 5th this season.
How many games did he win as the Rams HC?

Not sure why all are so hard on Morris.
Rams D is doing great with the players they have.
Great coaching.

Because fans are incapable of remembering that a roster is flawed and keeping that in perspective. So when our excellent coaching leads them to play better than they should those fans still manage to be upset we're not winning by multiple TDs.

Honestly, Morris deserves a head coaching job. He got his start at Tampa Bay very young (almost as young as McVay), and he simply wasn't ready and the roster at Tampa Bay was terrible. He's done good work with the Falcons and now us. He's a leader of men, he's learned from his mistakes, and it would be a shame if he never got a shot.

I'm not just saying this because of a potential comp pick (although I would be lying if I said it wasn't the case). I'm not just saying this because I feel that Pleasant or Henderson aren't ready to be DCs. I'm saying this because I truly believe that Morris could turn another team around.

Yeah - all those Raheem Morris HATERS around here sort of got put in hibernation.

Staley is HORRIBLE & had basically ZERO experience to be a HC.I’ll give him 1 year as The Rams DC,but super(bowl) happy when he became available & The Rams (Mcvay)hired him.

He has done an excellent job & only getting better with time.He had to deal with Jalen Ramsey. The best thing to happen to The Rams was when Taylor Tapp got hurt after the fight against Baltimore.
Raheem calling up Eric Weedle & getting him to buy in & having him be The Green Mic in the Superbowl was HOF like.

DeMeco Ryans is showing that you dont need an offensive coach to win, you just need the right coach.
That may bode well for Morris

Definitely. That said they're gonna get their OC poached immediately this season, which means Ryans needs to make sure he adds a quality replacement. Of course you can't swing a dead cat around the league without hitting a WCO tree coach so maybe that won't be a problem.

I agree though Morris will get his chance this offseason. He's watched McVay for three years for purposes of seeing one of the best cultures in the game, won a title as a DC, taught a unit of kids, etc. Also this time around he should have a top staff ready to go to impress the owner too, as he's had plenty of dry runs the past couple offseasons.

One can only hope Morris is a head coach next year.
That would mean he is not here.

Fair enough.

It's ironic though - if he keeps getting the results he's getting with this D that he has thus far, some of us will be rethinking our position and wanting him to stay ... and if he stunk it up (like I think he did last year) I'd be wanting him gone. Definite Catch-22.
