I could use those descriptors when considering Puka’s amazing season. He plays better than most seasonEd vets. He’s likely to break the rookie receiver record, all time and he’s not gimmicky either. He is a complete receiver, who can block,r7n the ball, as well as catch the ball in critical moments. He hasn’t missed a game this yea even after being injured during a game.
And Puka doesn’t play QB.

Then the award is bogus.
?
A QB performing at an elite level is more valuable than a WR performing at an elite level.

I’m a MASSIVE Puka fan… but a QB playing the way Stroud is as a rookie is just incredible.

I’m just gonna say people on here may be over weighing two missed games.

If you disagree, fine.

But Stroud’s play has been EXCEPTIONAL. And not for a rookie.. just exceptional.

And he's not a runner like Kyler or Justin Fields. He has less than 150 yards rushing all year.

That's the problem. Modern sensibilities take "value" literally in terms of stats. Not who is having a season that is more extraordinary. Just like with Kupp. Sure, analytics show that Rodgers was MVP in 2021 but Kupp did things that were more difficult, more extraordinary.

Kupp, also by eye test, was the key to Rams 2021 offense. Clutch catch after clutch catch -- in the regular season. But one MVP vote
As you say, Stroub will probably get OROY even though Puka is having a more rare year.

Analytics.

Nope.
Stroud is ALSO playing at a record setting pace.

He likely would’ve easily beat Andrew Luck’s record.

Again.. if you think missing two games means he doesn’t deserve the award, fine,

Stroud has been exceptional… every bit as much as Puka at the most important position in football.

Yeah, I gotta say Stroud wins ORotY. Yes, he's a quarterback, but he's having a hell of a year for Houston. That's absolutely nothing against Nacua, who has had a year to remember for rookie receivers, but the Texans were expected to gift the Cardinals another top five pick, and they may just win their division thanks to Stroud.

Fortunately, Kobie "The Conductor" Turner or Byron Young (our Byron Young, not the other rookie defender Byron Young. We really need to find a badass nickname for him.) could win DRotY for us; they're one and two when it comes to rookies in sacks (over the much more highly rated Will Anderson and Jalen Carter). Hell, maybe there needs to be a co-DRotY for both of them; they've both earned it.

Stroud deserves it.
He’s a top 10 QB as a rookie… it’s just a ridiculous first season.

Stroud has played 13 games.

Stroud is exceptional.

Stroud is the prohibitive betting favorite in Vegas.

I understand WHO will win it.

I am saying that the "most important position in football" is a modern-day advent. I fully understand the year Stroud has had and the one Rodgers had in 2021.

And even though I get fully what the arguments are --- I reject the analytics-only approach to top player awards. If precludes WRs, RBs, or defensive players.

We will have to disagree.

Puka has my vote. Not that it's worth a damn thing for the ROY award but I got your back 17. :bomb:

Puka will likely shatter Garrett Wilson's numbers from last year when he won the award.

It is not at all a QB only award. I show the last two winners were WR's. Of the last 10 winners only 3 were QB's.

Stroud has had an excellent year for a rookie. The fact that he is doing this with no previously established WR's is impressive.

His TD to int rate is very good. But 20 TD passes - if he finishes there for the season - isn't earth shattering. Mahomes threw for 50 in his first full year.

I think if Puka's TD's were higher he would have a chance.. probably only an outside chance if he finishes strong.

Puka likely breaks the rec and yards rookie record and makes the Pro Bowl. So plenty of accolades coming his way.

What he does in the run game with his blocking and carrying the ball won't probably be taken into the equation for the OROY award, but Rams fans are fully aware of his impact.

Okay.

I just think dismissing the impact a QB makes as a function of analytics is, at best, a dubious approach.

The QB, literally, has a/the key role in every offensive play.

If “rookie of the year” isn’t someone who makes the greatest impact AND performs at an exceptional level, I don’t know what it is.

Puka would win in many, many other years…. And I friggen love him.

CJ Stroud ain’t Sam Bradford.

If it was Bradford’s rookie year against Puka, I’d be all-in on Puka.

I think that the bigger problem is the awards and perception of them.

They’re dumb as hell. Why are we trying to figure out who the most valuable player is amongst a group of guys playing completely different positions???

It’s stupid.

When was the last time an offensive lineman got it? An
Off-ball linebacker?

Anyway.. I’m just fucking glad Puka is on the Rams and I’m looking forward to a long and successful career.
