I was always in the Kobe camp because of the way he approached the game. I remember Magic really singing his praises in an interview where he tactfully was throwing Shaq under the bus at the same time. Shaq was a funny guy that many people liked but I kinda despised him for how he took everything for granted. That team could have won more titles if Shaq would have put in the work. He fired his free throw coach after he started to see results, he was constantly out of playing shape to start the season, and he simply relied on his size and the fact they had Kobe. Love him or hate him, Kobe was always about winning and respect for the game.

I think the main thing with Shaq was that he was the rare guy where everything comes naturally and easy to him (he’s the rare guy where he could be an elite athlete and rapper; yes, Shaq is an incredibly talented rapper), so he’s never had to grind before.

Not trying to excuse him. Just saying he got the genetic lottery, and it’s easier to not try in basketball if you’re naturally talented than other sports.

Shaq also got the crap beat out of him night in and night out, and because of his size it was overlooked by the fans and the refs.

I think it was Knute Rockne who once said, "Dont ever trust a Quarterback who wears eye-liner"
Or maybe it was the Onion...
Either way screw the Saints, they want to tank for Manning anyway

There needs to be a rhyme for that. I can't think of anything.

Best one I remember is Suck for Luck.

Well, they can fire the coaching staff mid-season and call it the “Canning for Manning”
Or how about
“The losing March for Arch”

Figured I'd start a new injury thread. I don't think this has been created for 2025 yet.

Anyway, I can't believe this hadn't happened yet. I knew his knee injury was extremely severe but still would have thought this had happened already. Tough break for the kid.

Likely the beginning of the end for Dell. His decline will have already begun.
That's why I never criticize players for wanting as much money as they can get. In the NFL, a potential career-ending injury is only a play away. Dell will likely never be the same, and he was a second-round player in his second year. That's likely the only big contract he'll ever get.
This in part is why I hate the Rams drafting previously injured players, or small players. Anyone can get hurt but it’s a big man’s game.

Carr sucks. He's mediocre as fuck. Dude did the Saints a favor.

What I find interesting is that the Saints will probably have a top five OL this year, and they do have some weapons. So what will that offense look like if Shough wins the job. Have to think it's a situation that could produce a rare decent rookie season, if Shough is good enough to learn that offense and beat out those other two clowns his rookie camp. Which is a big assumption but if we get to the opener and he wins that job it might provide some good entertainment in that sorry ass division.

Honestly, I'd see if I could get a pick swap (their second in 2026 for our third in 2026) and Spencer Rattler in exchange for Jimmy Garoppolo. It helps us in two ways.

The first way is the assets we get with the trade. Having two firsts and two seconds could be highly beneficial in getting us a top quarterback or, at the very least, weapons and protection around him. And Rattler isn't exactly chopped liver; he has potential to be - at the very least - a solid backup, if not a decent starter, which could gain us yet more assets further down the line.

The second way is that it provides more competition against the Falcons, whom we'll need to fail if we're to get a top ten pick in 2026. The Saints and Bucs potentially beating the Falcons twice in a row (I won't count on the Panthers.) will help in that regard.

Shough should be the starter, Rattler doesnt have much of an advantage with a new offensive system and Haener is just a camp arm

It makes literally no sense for either team

Can you clarify why?
IMO trading a cheap, quality backup with playoff experience (Garapolo) for a relative unknown backup and a second round pick could potentially tank any hope for a playoff run if the 39 year old starter gets injured.

The primary goal is the Super Bowl, not draft picks.

Primary goal is the Super Bowl for every team in the NFL. The fact that Stafford is thirty-nine (and might retire after this year) and Garoppolo is highly coveted - in addition to us having another first-round draft pick, and possibly a high one - could also swing the scales toward planning for the future as well as the present. Like I said, Rattler's not exactly chopped liver, and McVay has gone into the season with worse backups, and you make the Saints better able to win against the Falcons.

To make a dynasty happen, you have to plan for future endeavors as well.

I dunno, Grappolo subbed nicely for Stafford when he went out last season. During a possible SB run this season, having bona fide QB insurance is very necessary. If we were already looking for a future QB, maybe but not this season.
