How much would Rodgers ultimately cost to come to the Rams? Everyone says he can be had cheap but how cheap, $10-15 mill? Jimmy G was paid a 3 mil salary with an effective APY of $4.6 mill mil to be a backup last year and could be brought back for maybe $5 mill this year (plus incentives) to be Rodger's backup.

Stafford's current APY is $40 mil and that should be the starting point not the $27 million cash value he has for this year. His cash value for next year is $31 million.

If you want to get him up to a 50 mill APY for 25 & 26 to me that is a 20 million pay raise. That would be in line with offering him consecutive 1 year deals worth 40 million as noted in ellard80's post of Underdog NFL. Effectively it would be a $13 mil pay raise this year and an $9 mill next year. That's a total pay raise of $22 which is doable.

Getting him up to a 50 million cash value is (Essentially a 60 million APY for the next two years) is another matter and adds another $42 million to the books and I do not think the Rams want to go there.

Is Stafford willing to take 10 million less a year and on year to year basis and stay with the Rams?

Do the Rams BLINK and close the money gap. I don't think they blink if they have Rodgers and extra draft capital potentially waiting in the wings.

I think it was originally but now Stafford is not so sure it's worth going to a losing situation.
Maybe it's not a losing situation.

As I posted in another thread, along with no income tax the Raiders have the 2nd most cap space in the league, 10 draft choices, and a new HC who has had success in the NFL. They could possibly turn things around in one season just like Washington did last year.

And they've been giving KC problems even without good QB play.

Not in that division.

I have trouble believing you actually think the raiders could be competitive in the next couple years.

So Raiders and Giants are offering 45-50 million guaranteed for two years, and that's just the guaranteed cash. If Stafford values money over all then I see him getting traded and will wish him nothing but the best until he plays the Rams.
If this happens, I fully expect Stafford to speak on this as a regret when he retires. Neither of those two teams are anywhere near the Rams in terms of personnel, FO and most importantly HC.
Hopefully we hear something by the weekend so we can put this behind us. Like someone else said, if he walks I'm super excited to see what happens next.

I think it's certainly possible, but i also think he could destroy the culture in the locker room.
McVay is definitely not Robert Saleh. Meaning Saleh had limited experience as a HC and was being pushed by the GM/Owner for Rodgers. Stan is not a clown owner like Woody.

If it were to be the Giants, Stafford should look at their schedule. I just checked it out out of curiosity. They have the toughest schedule in the league next season.

Even if Daboll and Shoen pulled off a trade for Mahomes, that schedule likely gives them a losing season.

I was accounting for teams being delusional.
I definitely think that most teams are. Most head coaches have big egos and hate to admit defeat. Plus to some extent they have to go into every season believing they have a chance, or they cannot motivate their team. And we have seen some terrible teams turn around their fortunes very quickly, like the Commodes and GSOT.

Well let's put it this way... Raiders for example have already said they are contending now. So even though we all know they're not a contender, if they build that belief system in-house it opens up value for Stafford as an option. To them. Which is all that matters.

My hope from day one is Stafford returns and it is still my hope. But this league has a very high floor in regard to talent, even on the poorest rosters. So it is possible that a team like the Raiders are a contender with Stafford, crazy as that sounds. I think at best they'd be a wildcard level team with him, however you can't rule out that the belief system can prove to be correct if they upgrade QB and mix in a good FA and draft.

I'd like to think he wouldn't come back disgruntled but IDK man. I don't like any of this.
I don't think McVay is ok with a disgruntled QB in 2025. Suspect they are ready to move on, assuming they get a compensation package they can live with.

Disadvantage for them in that regard is his age and mileage. Advantage for them is he still has a good arm, just put up some high level playoff tape, and he is among a very small group of QBs who you can say has a chance to win out in the playoffs even without a run game. What that translates into, we will see. But I think the value return comes down to whether any other teams are competing for him.

I will say, his regular season numbers are good but replaceable, and have been for a few years now.
Stafford was a top 5 QB in 2023 and it was probably one of his best seasons as a QB.

Sheesh!

(Granted, he really was bad end of year last year before the playoffs and there's recency bias and probably worry about age but SHEESH!)

Ehh there this QB draft sucks and the free agents are meh.

We will prob be a .500 at best team for two years without a QB/

Not that simple in my mind.

I think 45-47 is a fair offer however.
What I find interesting this season is that if you wanted to maximize value return on an old gunslinger QB the offseason conditions you would want would include a shitty QB draft. So realistically this represents a spike on that timeline of where Stafford will have his most value before he retires.

Not sure how effective Stafford will be with a journeyman or rookie LT, because him getting that kind of raise means Alaric Jackson is likly gone and no high priced offensive weapons or OTs will be coming here in FA.

So good luck Matt getting blown up from your blind side and looking out your ear hole.
Exactly. If he costs us Alaric, I’m not going to feel bad for him when he’s getting hammered all day from the left. It’ll be his bed he made.
