It would have to be the Giants 2nd rounder...not Pittsburgh's.

If Pittsburgh's 2nd, you would have to get another pick this year and a 3rd next year that could elevate to a 2nd.
NYG coach/GM are fighting for their jobs. Watching them on HardKnocks this past year didn’t exude confidence in their abilities to make quality decisions/assemble a quality team. If they want Stafford then make them pay dearly for it.

The 3rd was always a pipe dream but would be great to get them to pay up some combo of their 1st next year and some give and take on picks with us.

We now have the teams involved and an idea of where there numbers are though which will be fun for next 5 days.
The numbers were always obvious. He wants $50M. To do that they would have to give him like a $30M bonus this year, a higher base next year, then add a couple void years to spread out the prorated bonus cap hits.

Now do they want to do that?

ooooh buddy, you need to watch the Jets last year, at best one hopes their getting Rodgers at the end of the year there and he's still a shell of himself.
IDK man. I know pff gets dunked on a lot but they had him talked higher than Stafford and their numbers were actually similar.

He essentially said a lot of what myself and others have said about why a trade is even being considered that some here want to be in denial about. I'll keep saying I rather it work in our favor but its going to be interesting (maybe not in a good way) to see how it goes down.
Right. I acknowledge there's a chance MS leaves, although I personally still think it is very unlikely.

One thing Breer doesn't mention is the reality of the ever-exploding salary cap. It's just going up by HUGE amounts every damn year. It will continue to rise even more rapidly in coming years-- especially with the new way they calculate Nielsen ratings. I admit I'm no cap expert, but IMO even a 2 or 3 year deal that averages 50 to 54 M per year would still leave the Rams with a manageable cap in 2027 and beyond. I think that in three years, a 52M AAV for an elite QB will look like a total bargain, even cheap.

So yeah, IMO the Rams' public suggestion that a 50M-54M AAV for MS will "break the cap" is bullshit, frankly. With the ever-expanding salary cap, the Rams can pay MS current fair market value for 2025 and 2026 AND still be in good shape in 2027 and beyond.

What other motivation is there?
He wants more money, period.
We don’t know that either. Yes we know he wants more money and possibly a longer commitment but we don’t know it’s only about money. We don’t know how much. We don’t know if he would stay a Ram for less than he could get elsewhere. We don’t know anything really beyond what we read from those that also don’t know. Hell. We don’t even know what has actually been asked of the Rams nor what he has been offered if anything.

It's not bullshit when the players salaries also keep increasing. Sorry to say, it does put future contracts at risk if the Rams just throw caution to the wind just to sign Stafford at any cost. For example, Jamar Chase is predicted to be the 1st WR to break 40 mil per year. Think Puka's price won't get close to that if he keeps balling out? That doesn't even include other young FAs we have. In fact, we are still paying for AD's contract 2 years after he is retired. I doubt the Rams want to do that again if possible to avoid.

He's making $40m this year. I'm tired of hearing the talking point that Stafford will only make $27m this year. Three years ago Uncle Stan paid him over $16m as an advance for playing this season.

If Stafford retired early, he would have to pay part of his signing bonus back (like Calvin).

A raise from $40m to $50m per for the last two seasons (with an easy out in 2026 if he starts throwing ducks) would at least involve a manageable number.

Maybe, I think we need to see trade compensation before they make that deal

I think the biggest question is Does Stafford consider his salary 27 mill or 40 mill?
That IS a good question. From the Rams view it HAS to be the $40. But he already has the $13 in pocket so he really can’t be negotiating from a “hey! I’m only being paid $27. That would be the height of disingenuous.

You're missing some context w/ your post

Teams are willing to pay Stafford 50M + draft pick(s)...Because he's still under contract. And you can bet the Rams will demand a premium pick or picks for Stafford

Does Stafford want to leave? Again, missing context. Who wants him? The Raiders, the Giants? Do you really think he wants to leave for a team that are arguably worse than Detroit when he was there. I doubt it, even for more money. He's all about legacy right now, and he wants another trophy. Stafford has what, 1 to 3 years left of being a QB that can sling it the way he does. He doesn't have time to waste.

At this point we don't even know who favors Stafford, or if they are even in the ballpark as far as $$$ and compensation.
Just summarized what Peter said. Point wasn't to provide full analysis or anything.

I don't know what Stafford is thinking and have not insinuated that. Though there are a lot of assumptions going around in this thread. For example your point that he is all about legacy now, which I presume you consider to be context, is not something we know. I suspect that is accurate but his entire focus now may be his family and extracting all the money he can from his final years.

Peter didn't mention who favors Stafford, so I didn't make assumptions. But I think in its entirety it demonstrates that Stafford is driving this bus right now. Whether the Rams take the wheel or to what extent that happens we will see.

Yet you said we don't know so I said it's about the money, what is wrong with that lol.... I think you are in denial of the reports coming out and don't want them to be true. Trust me when I say I rather they not be true but everything being reported is saying the Rams not only gave Stafford's agents permission to seek his value, but have actually had discussions with teams about trade compensation.
All I said was that people blame Stafford or the players in general when money is involved - but actually its often a lot of people around them convincing them money is the most important thing.
