Mack’s Way Too Early Win/Loss Prediction

Super early to predict but I'd say the floor is 5 wins like last year (our D is a bunch of JAGS except for Donald right now) but we could hit 8 wins with that talent. If we make a trade for a stud pass rusher at the deadline I'll up that prediction from 8 wins.

Love everyone's optimism but I don't think we're gonna see a bunch of production from the rookie defenders that we'd need to have a higher win total. What could happen, not likely, is that players on our roster already take that next step. Rochelle would have to finally put it all together, Kendricks would need to really grow from last year, one of our safeties would really need to run with the position opposite Fuller, Hardy or Kerr would need to blossum into an every down player at OLB. And then maybe, maybe one of our rookies like Young hits in the first year and we could be talking about something different.

Also, I know people don't love to hear this but so much of our win/loss totals (as a team with just middle of the road talent) will depend on the health and variance of the teams we face.

Someone mentioned getting SF early when the QB situation will be muddled, we'll need a couple of events like that to occur to goose our win totals this year.

Or Caleb continues to not be able to lead his college team to any big wins and gets spanked by the likes of Utah again and teams figure out he’s just Kyler Murray with lifts on and realize that just like Kyler and Baker he’s merely a product of a system kinda like Case Keenum.

It's really hard to win a game where you score a TD the other team scores a TD. You score another TD and the other team scores a TD and so on and so on

And the first Utah game, we scored a TD to go up by 7 with under 2 minutes to play and then the other team scored a TD and got a 2 point conversion with no time remaining.

Man that's just hard to win.

I don't think Caleb is some sure thing by any stretch. It's a bit of a trend to stick small QBs in the backfield in college but the NFL is a different animal than the NCAA. Defenses are better. Secondaries are smarter and more varied. You can't just roll over many opponents and pad stats vs lesser competition.

Only small QB who has won a Super Bowl in the past 10 years is Russell Wilson, and with that year's defense it's about as meaningful as drawing conclusions from Dilfer or McMahon because those teams could practically line up and run the ball every play and still win games.

Small QBs have a lot to prove at the NFL level. IMO. We'll see whether any of these guys can win anything meaningful in the next decade as well, since teams are drafting them high now. But I'm guessing we'll see a continuation of the taller and better signal callers hoisting that Lombardi.

Also and btw I know Caleb is listed as 6'1" but I suspect he's more like 6 foot. He certainly has a chance to do something at this level but just saying he's no sure thing. We'll see though.

4 inches is a lot taller than 5' 8" Murray and Young

And Caleb is more of a scrambling QB ala Tarkenton than a read one and go QB like Murray.

However, I do think 6' is the absolute minimum for a QB to be an elite QB.

I do think Caleb has two weaknesses. Sometimes it takes forever for him to see an open receiver and he can get hurt running around all the time. He definitely needs to work on those two areas.

watch his films, this guy has a remarkable talent in the pocket, it's canny how aware he is of whats going on around him, he slides left or right with ease, finding his open receivers. And hey, if Caleb is a first round, Stetson is right there with him.

I have watched his film and just don't see a starting caliber QB. I will agree with you that I like how he moves around the pocket and that he is a winner, but I think the NFL will be too much for his athletic ability.

I don't know how Brady became so good in the NFL (of course knowing what the defense is going to run helps a lot) but I saw Montana play in college and could not understand why teams waited so long to draft him. I do not see Stetson having the same playmaking ability that Montana had (of course I have been wrong before and I could be wrong again).
