Fortunately the Rams are invested in a top 5-7 QB for the next 5 seasons. QB? We're covered
Back up QB? Wait and see the contract Baker gets, will be a nice pay day. You know who will pay most attention to that? The rest of the available QB's who see the Rams as a great place to resurrect their career
Rams should be putting all their available chips towards o-line, tight end and RB and run the 12 full throttle next year
I don't see Stafford lasting 5 seasons. That would be great, but I just don't see it.

The only reason Mayfield has been able to maybe resurrect his career is bc Stafford is injured. If Stafford is healthy for the next 5 years, how are other available qbs supposed to resurrect their career with us when they're on the bench? Only way that scenario works is if Stafford is consistently injured.

I agree we need to focus on all you mentioned. I just feel Mayfield may want to stay if he feels he may be able to start in the next couple seasons, but that's a convo Stafford and the front office need to have if Stafford feels that's a possibility.

Stafford is only 34, and in today's day and age, guys can play until 40, see Brady, Roethlisberger, Rodgers etc. Yes, 5 years is a bit of a stretch on my part, but a legit 2 or 3 years? No problem
He's not going anywhere, and if the Rams were in legit playoff contention, he'd be out there right now.
Mayfield isnt staying to be a backup, nor should he.
There will be open spots and he'll get a nice offer.
What Mayfield did for the Rams is to show guys who dont get that chance exactly how playing in this system will get them their opportunity. And certainly shows McVay and Sneed that a legit #2 can keep them on the map if need be.

I would argue that none of the qbs you mentioned had as tough a time as Stafford through out his career. Stafford has been consistently injured year after year playing for a terrible team. That takes a toll as you age, as we've seen.

Like I said, those guys will have to PLAY in the system to have their career rejuvenated. Bortles I would say was a great qb to have as a back up, and maybe could have done well under mcvay. But he never got a shot and is now out of the league. Can't add to a resume if you've never worked. Only way I see a decent qb looking for a new start here is a qb betting on Stafford getting injured.

We may have to agree to disagree on this one, brother. Although I agree that the probability of Mayfield staying is closer to none than anything and that 2-3 seasons seems like a good estimate for Stafford.

We're not disagreeing as much as you are only looking thru it as a Rams fan. Bortles is the perfect example of why Mayfield would be nuts to pass up a good deal to be a back up. Ride the bench, dont play and the league forgets about you.
Mayfield is gone, as he should be.
And nobody took a beating like Roethlisberger, Stafford's jersey is clean compared to him. Stafford isnt going anywhere thats why they signed him to a monster deal. One year doesnt make him an injury risk. That just media creation
Good news is that Mayfield showed the Rams that Wolford/Perkins types wont cut it, and they'll upgrade that. Just wont be him

I always wondered why we let Bortles go? Didn't make any sense. That's why I dont want to make the same mistake twice. Although we would more than likely have to give Mayfield a contract mirrored that of Jimmy g's to get him to stay. Which we can't afford realistically.

Been saying that for 2 years. IMO The Rams were DUMB THINKING in 2021!!!

Anchrum was never the answer & I lost a bet saying The Rams wouldn’t draft a O’Lineman in 2020.Anchrum was the pick only because The Rams trade a 6th for 2 7th rd picks.

1.In 2021 needed to draft a O’Lineman to groom.Especially with a deep Center class
2.Rams needed a bigger RB for pass pro to replace Malcom Brown.Going into training camp with Funk, jones & HENDO was a horrible idea.
-in my heart I knew Sony Michael was an option.New England was up against the cap. They were going to have to cut him & NE didn’t have any preseasons injuries.Jones got hurt at the end. IMO - The Rams don’t win it all without SONY.
—Coming into 2022 -Same mistake with out finding a bigger RB. If not at least a HB/TE type of player for pass pro to protect Matthew Stafford.
3.Not having that deep threat established has hurt? Tutu is that guy,but OBJ & Jefferson was hurt. The Rams we’re counting on OBJ & making a playoff run.

We can all look at things we want to.I’ll always look at it from my perspective.

3.Taylor Rapp -(Fuller) ask Staley about Rapp? I’ll just say without HOF Eric Weedle coming back & being that confidence builder. He jacked up Von & OBJ as well.

4.We all knew OLB/DE was a problem. The Rams had some nice youth, but Chris Garrett was a mystery. Von Miller was gone & 2021 The Rams got so lucky to get him.Hollins is a SUB(rotational) & T.Lewis had talent & flashed but was always going to be a twinner who never got off the ball. His knee injury might not have been that bD in a sense. He was never going to get off the ball.

Les Snead IMO & Sean Mcvay are The Best at findings players & building them up from there system. It just takes awhile.

Hoecht & Copeland in 2020 both add depth.
A’Jackson in 2021 is another UDRFA find.

—Mundt went down.Luckly Blanton (cut)came in,but now gone.HENDO gone,Lewis gone
Funk gone(ps).
Those were core players that needed to be sorted out.HENDO is a FA and was a ok player.

Bortols was only good because of his locker room.He might have been able to run an offense. He went to Denver & wasn’t even a good lockeroom guy. Then again maybe that was the difference Goff missed when he was gone??
Baker IMO is a better choice to run The Rams offense & will get a good pay day.In 2023 we Ram fans will find out.Baker is gone & a $100 thousand plus 3 year deal. Say Raiders as an example.

Carr would be a perfect backup. Not sure if he will get starting $money. Olson was his OC & his Bro works at SOFI(NFL Net) which would be a perfect place for him.
—I know he want to be a started & still can. That is my view though of a perfect fit. Carr has made his,but the design of his contract makes him hungry to make those 2 years up.
—Purdy in SF needs to open eyes up. White with the Jets. Mills in Houston?

That can is getting bigger than ever considering we have already pushed forward future debt with Donald, Floyd, Havenstein, Higbee, A'Shawn Robinson & Allen Robinson.

A’Shawn ? Isn’t he a FA ?

The big question is A’Shawn or Greg Freaking Gaines.

The Rams should continue to get comp picks Les Snead & Sean Mcvay do a GREAT job in that department. They add value to players careers. That next man up thing is real.
The Rams have Just sieved through the whole roster. The 90 man roster is going to look different.

I like Bentley & Arcuri from 2022 training camp.I see a skill set from both players. Both have been cut & practice squad players. The problem being waiting until they become solid pros.
In 2021 Hoecht & Copeland beat out Johna Williams.I sort of put Bentley in the Williams way of building. - cut signed by another team & brought back to The Rams practice squad.

Of the names you have mentioned, A'Shawn Robinson, Greg Gaines & Marquis Copeland are potentially heading into free agency, but the question I was answering to was about future debt being pushed into later years. A'Shawn was restructured, so whether he is re-signed or not, the Rams will carry $1.5M of his dead money into the 2023 season.

You guys know the reason OBJ hasn't signed with anyone right? The minute they ask for a med eval of his knees, he cans the deal. The dude is done. Why do you think he doesn't want to play a full season? Because he can't. He knows his knees are permanently trashed. I'm telling you the dude is done.

SAD !! He sure helped The Rams on there 2021 journey.

All I’m saying is he was a part of The Rams plan in 2022.Weather that was right or wrong??

Am I glad or ever willing for The Rams to sign OBJ ? HECK NO

Either way it was an option & The Rams offered him a contract. At least that was his Twit. (Proud of myself) & how The Rams were low balling him.

The Rams lossing out a squash on all of that. Plus the position of need(cap reasons). & salary cap.

Weather he is done or not that is a question for next season & how The Rams are structured. If he signs some where else I most likely will cheer for him & or wish him the best.

His character as a RAM (too notice) his character outside The Rams facility I still question.I thought he & Von Miller were awesome!!

Closing Window for current core players. So quick reload for a championship prior to a rebuild.
If they keep Baker, less of a rebuild... or an potentially easier one.

Agreed and was going to post a very similar response.

Beckham is an unethical, me first guy and as you said he isn’t signed because he isn’t healthy. All that bunk about him being ready by November was all coming from his camp. No one should have believed it.

Seeing Mayfield with the Rams makes me question all the crap about him that also came from Beckham’s camp.

Curious if there is any chance Woods gets released this offseason and if he could end up back here?

I doubt Tenn wants to pay his high base salary, so he could be on the street. Would both sides be open to a reunion here? Maybe only if they decide to move Jefferson for a pick and if Woods would take a modest contract.

I have to agree. He's been a good teammate in Carolina and in LA. I think all his mis-steps in Cleveland caught up to him and humbled him. You can tell he's very focused and I can tell by his play how much he's improved. He's a system QB best in a read offense, and it's why I kept harping on him to develop the skills while he was in Cleveland. Baker and Kyler are the same in that regard. But guess which one has done the work and has developed and the other hasn't. Mayfield was simply playing the way the coach wanted him to play i.e. by progression, not by reading the secondary and anticipating. If Odell was #3 it didn't matter if he was open, if #1 or 2 were open as well.

If Mayfield stays with the Rams as I anticipate, the Cards will eat their damn hearts out. Instead of throwing money at Kyler, they should have traded for Mayfield. Now that would have made them a legit contender for the division and a playoff caliber team. But that FO can't stop standing on their own dicks. My neighbors are already jealous after watching Mayfield with the Rams.

Mayfield will do what Stafford did and push the Rams to the top of the division. The Niners will have to give up on their Lance experiment if they don't want to lose the momentum they have built. They had a QB good enough to win with in Jimmy G and didn't even realize it. Jimmy G is a second tier QB but as with all second tier QBs if you put a team around them on both sides of the ball and have a good running game they would give you complimentary ball and would be good enough to contend with....i.e. al la Goff in Detroit. Jimmy G is hammering that lesson in very hard right now.

Jimmy is a UFA next year. Carr, Jimmy G, and Tommy B all hitting the market as well as potentially Rodgers will dilute the demand for Mayfield who has yet to prove anything. That's why I don't think the contracts that will be offered to Mayfield will be what most here seem to think. I see them as being 2-3 year proveit deals. If Snead can commit to him being a starter here no later than 2025 he might stay. If Snead offers him the start in 2024 he will definitely stay. With Carr hitting the market and he having final say as to where he goes, you better believe LA would be at the top of his wish list. That would give the Rams leverage. I'd rather have Mayfield than Carr for two reasons, 1. McVay really likes him 2. Baker is a good fit for Sean's scheme more so than Carr.

Seattle will have to go after Carr if they want to compete in the NFCW arms race.

Dude - WHAT ???

When are The Rams going to trade Rob Havienstien?? Maybe they should have just cut him.

Street Credit - - Let’s make a wager & I go with The Rams get a Comp Pick for Baker Mayfield.

I’ll put almost all my Rod Credits on he doesn’t resign with The Rams.

A report asked him what’s up basically. He said I’m a Free Agent & looked at him like he was crazy thinking he was going to be a backup.

I’m sure he thinks he is better Matthew Stafford.

It’s got to suck for Baker though in a lot of ways. He has been thrown out as garbage by two teams career in jeopardy bad rap 78 coaches …then he finally finds a place he can call home with Lincoln Reilly as a neighbor a coach who loves him appreciates him gets him and how to scheme for him and just scratching the surface and yet he may have to leave rather than be home. Yes he has to go for the bag but where will he end up and will it be a situation like he is in now. Positive flourishing appreciated fans love him and a coach who believes in him with teammates that love him in a short time. He has to be telling his wife I finally find the place I belong and I may need to leave.

Having said all that the confidence building and belief in his game again if he does go elsewhere will he fit in the offense or have a coach that will play to bakers strength? Tampa is a great fit but Bowles.? Saints? Jets? Giants? Don’t think Vegas is the spot and don’t think he wants to be a bridge type or be in Houston.

If Snead and McVay tell Baker he would be the starter in 2024 if he simply stays as a backup and develop in Sean's system. Baker would be crazy to leave. He will stay if the wait is one year. I don't think they have talked to him about it yet. Also with all the QBs hitting the market the offers he will get won't be what he thinks he might.

Ultimately it is Snead and McVay's call when it comes to Stafford. He's damaged goods right now and to think he will even get to 2025 IMO is wishful thinking. McVay can leave when ever he wants. But if he has a shiny new toy to mold he will stay.

Mayfield has to know his odds of getting a ring are best in LA. He can see the team around him. If Snead makes him the right offer he will stay. This whole thing with Stafford IMO took both Snead and McVay out of their complacency. They have to have consulted the specialists. A bullet was dodged this time.

If Baker walks after this year I think we will likely regret it. He brings an energy to the team that gets the players going. He’s truly a leader. Let’s see what happens on Sunday.
