I don't think anyone can truly answer that for another year , as they're still growing , are they 100% a Dire Wolf , no , but at five months , they already have a thicker mane then a grey wolf , and their tails are different as well , now , we'll have to wait till their full grown , to see if the have larger skulls and jaws then grey wolves

It seems every time we try the "introduce the new predator to control a nuisance" it always goes badly and causes other issues.

I think of stink bugs as an example.

Some Pennsylvania dumbass thought it would be a good idea to bring in stinkbugs to lower the lady bugs population.

That was the dumbest move ever.

Lady bugs keep the insect population down and even though my house was invaded by lady bugs one year, they never bothered me.

Stink bugs on the other hand are annoying as shit. I will wake up with one in my hair and .... just yuck

I know they aren't going to be in the Everglades - it was hypothetical. Wherever you introduce them, they're going to hunt certain animals in the ecosystem to the point of extinction - a lot of which are already endangered or struggling with their habitat. Do you really want keystone animals being hunted to extinction and screw up the environment they're introduced to beyond saving?

I don't like when amoral scientists play God with the wellbeing of animals; this is exactly what Michael Crichton warned us about. Just because you can bring ancient animals back from extinction doesn't mean that you should.

They're extinct for a reason, and they died out naturally, unlike certain animals who died because of human interference that could legitimately have a reason to be brought back. Let them rest in peace.

Worse still are the assholes who release their animals in the wild. They either die a slow death or they die…but not before taking out an ecosystem in the process.

I don't imagine they will ever be released into the Wilf for most of the reasons you stated. I know that history is being taught differently these days, but I learned that it was hunting packs of humans that drove most of the continent's megafauna extinct when the Dire Wolf went extinct. The giant beavers, wooly mammoths, etc... were hunted to extinction by humans. So these Dire Wolves are doomed too. cuz we be the real apex predators....

We evolved into the dominant species because of our intelligence and our ability to build through civilization and scrapping our "hunter/gatherer" background, nothing more or less. It didn't give us the right to hunt hundreds of species of animals into extinction then, and it doesn't give us the right to play God now.

That depends on your world view. Seems you have two different world-views colliding here. I'm not going to judge yours, -I believe God created us in His image from the beginning and we are to be good stewards of the plants and animals on this the only life-sustaining planet.
