They're doing the same at CB
Rams fans want to do the same at TE (some do)
Nothing makes sense unless they're doing a full rebuild but it seems like only a partial one atm
Regarding TE, I'd restructure Higbee for a year and then cut him. Draft #84 in the black and gold in R3 :sunglasses:

So this year we lose Wagner , Ramsey , and Floyd. Next year it will be Stafford and Donald.
Sounds like a lot of mediocre Rams football ahead. The Super Bowl feeling has faded away.

I guess if you do the math , every 32 years is average. That’s not the way we think. I was hoping to get there again with Donald , Kupp , and Stafford. You never know, but it sure looks like a rebuild now
Robinson wants a trade now too.

I could see that. Think he has to be a top target for us in the draft.

Not a great blocker. But phenomenal route runner, pass catcher, and YAC guy

Round 3 for LaPorta? I can think of bigger needs and better players to take in the third but who knows what they do.

I know yeah. Been watching his games along with that TE group and I am sure McVay has wood over the thought of adding him.

He'd be a route threat year one for us. Smart and savvy is a requirement for McVay IMO and he fits.

I am really excited about TE possibilities in this draft.

Oh I agree! Was just giving my input as a fan who's watched most of his games. I'm a massive LaPorta fan.

Wagner is gone. Looks like Floyd will be. Possibly Ramsey. Its starting to look more and more like a rebuild is coming. Not sure what to make of it as far as McVay is concerned. When he decided to stay did he know they planned for a rebuild? If so does it mean he's committed to seeing it through?

In his one full year with AD we got 11.5 sacks from Dante Fowler a sack better than Floyds best year with AD. Who knows what the deal is but the Rams seem ready to move on.
I think it is safe to say Floyd is a better all-round player than Fowler and also more dominant in big moments

I don't mind the logic, but who are we going to replace him with, and is it worth saving $3 mil?

Robinson: We can survive, no problem based on his impact. OK, I get it.
Ramsey: We better get used to playing more soft zones. It's hard to see how the secondary gets better but I can see how we can scheme it. We better find a good one in the draft!
Floyd: We save $3m, have no ready replacement, it's a weak FA and we probably can't afford a good one. Rookies tend to take time to develop unless you get lucky. We have nothing in terms of depth. I'm lost...

My plan was to draft an edge at 36 and get rid of Floyd next year. I don't like cutting him this year in spite of me not being a big fan of his production.

Admit mistakes? They got rid of Goff, Gurley, Wagner, Cooks, and Woods, and now they are ready to dump Floyd, Allen Robinson, and Jalen Ramsey (apparently). And this AFTER signing these guys to huge contracts. In fact, the only guys that haven't cut yet are Donald, Stafford and Kupp, and they may all be gone next year! Not sure "mistakes" is the right word. Maybe a "re-direction"? Either way, it's hard to root for this team in the off-season when their key players are thrown away like old clothes. I am a diehard Ram fan but I would like to see some continuity along with some new additions (draft choices) once in awhile. I can't argue with the results, but it sure feels like McSnead has leveraged everything they had over the last 5 years and now they might have to pay the price. Time will tell. Go Rams!
When they let Kupp go... keep me away from the sharp objects..... :woozy2:

What is happening? I don't get this at all. Floyd played well this year. Why are we blowing up the team?

Ten days ago, Floyd sent a cryptic tweet that read:
'I know what I bring to a club all ima saying'

That suggested the Rams had approached him on re-working his contract; and he declined.

Speculation since then that he was going to be released.

Yesterday it was confirmed (several sources) that, unless a trade was worked-out, Floyd would be released.

A post-June 1 designation would push most of the Dead-$ into 2024, and provide $15M of cap relief in 2023. However, a pre-June 1 designation would create a mere $3M of cap space for 2023, and yield $19M of Dead-$ this season ... none in 2024.

Now Pay Attention! There will be a Quiz.

I admit I'm just in such a pessimistic mood right now that I can't stand myself.

But what burns me is the last few years they've wanted to rely on players that have been in the organization for the last few years at OL, EDGE, CB, S and TE that haven't panned out. That's what burns me.

These moves sting yeah. But this is all best for the team. Like 2 years from now what are the odds these dudes have been beaten up so much they're skills deteriorate vs being the studs they used to be? Let other teams have that decision.

I mean they see these guys day in and day out and know more about their on-field performance and contracts more than any one of us.
Unfortunately, familiarity doesn't always reap great decision making see the Jaguars for evidence.
The caveat is I get where you are going and hope this is the case

The GM and coach know they need to keep a competitive team, and know their players situation. After a 5-12 year WITH a lot of these guys...time to say fuck it...didn't work and move on.

And I'm sorry...the Rams are not the Jaguars lol

Because there’s no path to having enough talent to contend now, Rams are getting rid of older players with big contracts and cap hits. It’s a rebuild.

Floyd was gone after this season, so they could get more for him now than next year. Under Morris he became a parttime pass rusher because Morris was afraid of the poor QBs getting hurt. It's why he left them freebie passes in the short zone so that they couldn't be threatened by Donald as well.

So far the only real surprise to me has been Wagner's release. Everyone else is no surprise. This team has gotten better everytime Snead has done this. The only time that wasn't true was when McVay blew up the OL in 2019. But they really didn't want to lockup that cap space. For those that hated it, just remember it led them to winning the Super Bowl two years later. Why? Because Snead had the room to make his moves like OBJ, Miller and Michel.

So that is why I'm not going to be premature in judging what is happening. Case in point if Snead can grab Ngakoue that would be an upgrade to Floyd and being younger has more productive years ahead of him. If I remember most people here weren't impressed when Snead brought in Floyd. Now fans gotta have him? Same thing with Corbett, when they traded for him. Then outraged when he was allowed to walk.

This is only the lead up to the start of the new season. Snead is clearing cap to give him room to operate. Let's see how it goes before we judge.
