I'm not much of a draftnik. Didn't know anything about any of these guys before the draft. So I rely on the post draft evaluations.
One thing I know, relying on rookies to make your team better is risky. Most of them need a couple years to be legit contributors if they are at all. I don't see any of them starters on day one.
These are guys they'll have for the next 4 years. Ferguson is the kind of tight end McVay covets for his offense. Might not see it this year but expectations are he'll be a contributing piece for a few years. The first pick in the McVay era was a playmaking tight end. Everett wasn't terrible but did not live up to expectations.
Stewart will likely be a part of the rotation although he won't see as many snaps as Verse and Young. That might change in a year or two. He fits the kind of player they like. Non stop motor who loves the game.
I have no idea if Hunter will eventually turn out like Kyren Williams or end up like Zach Evans. I don't expect to see much of him during the season unless there are injuries. He might be the kick return guy.
Some people think Chris Paul is steal. He plays a position the Rams defense doesn't typically rely on. Not sure he can beat out Reeder or Speights. He might be spending more time on special teams until he shows he can be more than that. If he can play like some think he can, it would sure help. Especially against the run.
Mumpfield and Hamilton? Well, they might enhance the practice squad unless they can show something on special teams. Expecting good things from late day 3 picks might be asking too much.
You are correct about rookies often not helping right away, in most cases. However, if the Rams picked as well as they have in 23’-24’, then they may see some rookies contribute. But it’s not a great draft for top talent so the odds are against that.
There are a few positions though that could require rookies to play. Stewart could replace Hoecht’s hybrid spot if he beats out some of last years backup DLine/edge types. Ty Hamilton could definitely play in the DLine rotation if he beats Murchison for a spot. And the WR group is very small. They lack depth and Mumpfield could end up as the fifth best WR right away. Maybe he could see the field similarly to what Tyler Johnson did. His biggest competition will be Xavier Smith for the fifth spot.
