Would anyone sign Reeder to their 53 if he doesn’t make ours? I doubt it

I get that I'm the bearer of bad news.

Who knows if anyone would sign Reeder.

That's the wrong question though. The right question is, what is the meaning of him not playing a snap in the preseason? Has there ever been a time when McVay didn't play someone in the preseason and they didn't make the roster? I can't recall one instance of that.

FWIW IMO, Justin Dedich has outplayed Beaux Limmer during preseason IMHO. Dedich is not as big at 6'2 300lbs vs 6'5 315lbs, however, Dedich has been better and is superior in pass protection IMHO. If it came down to those two, I would keep Dedich over Limmer although I believe they will keep both and I also believe some will think I am nuts.

What about Bowles? Does he have a chance to make the team?

What if Reeder was just brought in to coach up the youngsters. Rams know exactly what Reeder brings so no need to play him in preseason and take away snaps from Dolac and Pooh. I can’t see the Rams not keeping Dolac on the 53 man roster but I’ve been wrong before….many times.

All possible. All I'm saying is, the McVay tendency regarding preseason snaps is predictive with 97% (possibly 100%) accuracy.

I realize there are very few competitive OL slots for the 53-man roster open to competition, in the eyes of Rams brass. And do we keep 9? 10? 11? Plus, there is IR, and hiding an "injured" guy on the 53 and just keep 11 guys. I don't know.

I do wish the league would expand the rosters a bit. It seems ridiculous all the manipulating of these men's lives, whether for roster slots/practice squad, or for salary cap reasons, it takes away from what should be organic reasons for building a roster, and the focus on the game itself.

The episode was about having like a minor league for the NFL.I think like The EURO League.The Rams had Kurt Warner as a DOT(NFL) with Amsterdam.
Another example of how it can work as a RAM PLAYER who comes back every year is Dresser Winn.The cool thing would create a number of players from the 90 such as 15-25 players.
Just using that as an example.The Rams coach these players up SO well.

I hear you. I've braced for this exact thing.

We may underestimate how much McVay prioritizes the mental part. I think he likes Reeder's green dot capabilities. Same reason they brought Shelton in and are playing him over Limmer since we all know it's not because of better physical capabilities.

I am also surprised with the Rams training camp/evaluation of Beaux Limmer. I thought he had the center position locked up, even after the Rams signed Shelton. I figured Limmer would have improved year 2 and thought he had a pretty good rookie season to boot. But that last play against Jalen Carter must have been the last straw for McVay. It's pretty obvious now that McVay is blaming him for that mistake in the NFCCG and not Dotson (JMO). Maybe he wasn't getting the line calls right all year long and still hasn't progressed? But for him to be playing most of the preseason tells me the coaches are not that high on him, especially with all of the other young guys playing well. He could be a practice squad candidate and I would not have a problem with that if they think Dedich or Lampkin or whoever can be better.

I don't think he's safe, I just don't think there's much to evaluate with him.

I think it's more than the NFCCG critical error. Both Snead and McVay subtly inferred, mixed in with ample coachspeak, that Limmer had struggled with line calls throughout the year. We also were told by announcers towards the end of the season Stafford was making all of the pass pro calls.

I'm with you. I don't know that Limmer is much higher than the other young OL guys. I do suspect though that he and Dedich are rated the highest interior backups. Both are getting preseason starts and playing substantial snaps before being subbed out. And they're both listed as 2nd string backups on the unofficial depth chart.

I’ve mentioned it before. Reeder is a lock to be a lead on special teams and will back up Landman and Speights.

I have liked Bowles too, not sure if it is because his name is Wyatt or his play? Seriously I feel Dedich is more of a natural center and Bowles is a very stout guard IMHO.
