Man this is going to be tough. I really wish we could keep Presley, Schrader and Desjuan. I don't think that's going to happen though.
I would prioritize Presley and Desjuan. Tutu is on a one year deal. He’s likely gone this winter. And while Xavier Smith has looked good this summer, he’s never translated that production in his limited regular season snaps. It’s difficult to tell what they have in X. So, by next summer Presley could possibly be pushing for serious playing time.

Desjuan produced even in the playoffs. He seems to be a keeper.

Just how safe is Kam Curl? Could he be trade bait?

The Rams have added Kamren Kitchens, Jaylen McCollough since he signed and now Josh Wallace is playing some safety?
I think there will be a surprise cut/trade

Looking forward to the best TE room in Rams history this year.

Ferguson is tantalizing... man.. he could transform this offense... I just wonder how much he can be counted on in his rookie year after an abbreviated training camp and preseason. The 12 personnel grouping could just be devastating.. and they could even roll some 13 in there.

That would be great if they could trade Curl, they have plenty at safety now and even a few more in the wings. That way you can keep Wallace & Green and I actually feel Wallace is better at safety than CB.

What I liked (and happily agreed with) is when McVay said, we're going to release some guys who are NFL 53 qualified (I would guess, many). That shows the depth of this Rams team.

I would 100% be against trading any of their top three safeties.

The Rams have real questions when it comes to the Corners... BUT... those safeties can be a true strength, as a group, and give the defensive backfield some real versatility. There's less than no reason, imo, to trade one of those guys and I think it would be borderline malpractice, to be honest.

Hopefully Curl has a big season. But for me generally it seems money spent on the S position is wasted when these guys come out of the woodwork in each draft. You can overhaul that room in a year with mid to late picks and also find them among UDFAs.

Interesting perspective, just trying to figure out what Curl does well that another safety cannot do. Rams do not have safeties that cover well, that is where Wallace helps. Curl more of a strong safety and with the likes of with McCollough and Ingle, Rams seem to be in good shape there.

They're in good shape there because those young guys are good backups to a good strong safety in Curl.

I hope so but for some reason the coaching staff seems to like Murchison ... Reeder-Lite.
I think its more positional in that Murch is more of a true 3-4 interior guy

But seeing Desjuan on the edge yesterday gave me some Hoeht vibes

That makes sense, hopefully, he has a great year. I am all for whatever makes the Rams better.

For me.. it's about the group. Being able to build on last year with that group working together is a big deal, imo. None of them are great in one-on-one coverage... but being able to go multiple looks to mess with a QB's eyes.. is a big thing. I believe the continuity and the experience with Curl out there, allows them to be more creative/exotic this year.

I see that as one of the keys to the season and defense.. the ability to shift pre and post snap to make QBs have to process just a little more.. while dealing with an improved and potentially devastating pass rush.. will help cover the obvious concerns.. you might even call it weakness.. at the corner spot.

I feel like that's the logic behind the Rams D construction this offseason. Poona and Landman should really help tighten up the running defense.. Speights too... create more long down and distance situations. Unleash the pass rush and game the back-end to create confusion/turnovers.

We'll see.

I guess I just don't get how cutting/trading a good starter to put unproven depth in the starting spot makes us better. He's a free agent after this year and getting rid of him isn't a huge cap savings.

Maybe but there is only a five pound weight difference per the Rams' team site (those stats can be wrong).

I also noted Johnson playing Edge exclusively against the Browns but that was new. The prior two years, he has been a down-lineman; and he usually flashes when he plays. Murchison ... not so much.

I see Ford and Davis as the primary interior DL on run downs, with Turner and Fiske getting the highest percentage of snaps, and being mainstays in passing situations. See Hamilton competing with a 6th DL to be game-day active, and for snaps ... would much prefer it being Johnson, as opposed to Murchison.

And yet Reeder is one of three ILBs that haven't played a snap in the preseason. That typically suggests he's safe.
I'm hoping its more of they know what they have in Reeder so his evaluation is more so solely done during practices. I would love to get rid of that wart.

Again, I can't see the Rams trading key players unless it is for a player that fills a weakness. They are going for the trophy this year. Curl is a seasoned NFL safety. The younger guys will be around to take over next year when they will need the cap space. This team is peaking personnel wise. The last thing they will do is weaken it.
