From my draft notes
Round 5 trade up from 175 to 164
RB Kyren Williams: It's obvious that the Rams could not afford to bring Sony Michel back. IMO Williams is their answer to fill that vacancy in their roster. Williams is smaller and timed slower than Michel. But I've heard that analytics timed his play faster than his combine run which happens more than most think, and it places him sub 4.6. Kyren is more agile than Sony and unlike Michel, Kyren isn't a power runner, he's breaks tackles by being elusive. At 5'9" and 194 lbs he's short not small. Where he is going to fill in for Michel is as a 3rd down RB. Like Michel, Williams has shown he understands pass protection and is a willing blocker. On film, Williams is a better receiver out of the backfield or slot and is where his quickness serves him well. If there is a concern about Kyren is he does have a reputation for laxed ball security, something the Rams need to stress with him. Overall, it was clear the Rams valued his pass protection and receiving abilities above that as a pure RB as they have Akers and Henderson in front of him for that role. In that context the Rams looked to have done well and looked to have gotten value for the trade up.
