Been looking at some of the early backs today and Omarion Hampton is a special player. He's all around a top back in every metric. Seriously he has the speed, he's elusive, good contact balance and pad level, acceleration out of traffic, defenders are afraid of this kid. He has the size and weight to be a bell cow and has shown he can carry the load. Also he's explosive out of the gun, doesn't matter where the handoff comes from, which fits Stafford's preference.

I think the key with him as it pertains to McVay seeing him as a fit will be his hands in the workouts. He has receiving yards but it seems like most of them are from shovel passes. Question is can he turn it up fast from a catch in the flat, on a wheel route, maybe even sit down in a zone across the middle. To what extent that is projected could give him immense value to our offense.

And look... Jeanty is the obvious fit. If he falls to 26 I think we take him. Rams will be hoping for another top option to slide to them and get another impact player. But it is possible that Hampton in this offense is that kind of player. And that's not to take anything away from the power backs I like (Scattebo & Martinez both of whom are fantastic and available later). But this dude has a gear and he's not some clown who just runs through big holes. He can drop them and manufacture yards and bellcow for you.

There are so many good backs in this draft. So many good TEs. So many DL. Makes me think that if the guy they covet early isn't there they will be prone to moving down and adding another pick.

Of course I prefer the difference maker always. But damn man, an extra third rounder in this draft feels like it would be worth it.
The 26th pick basically gets you the 30th & 118th

The 26th pick basically gets you the 34th & 89th

The 26th pick basically gets you the 38th & 76th

I can see the Rams doing something like the 26th for the 40th and 70th. Kind of the reverse of last year.
There will be a lot of good players at 40 & 70.

With 40 & 70, you come out with 2 from CB/DL/RB/WR/LB/OL vs. staying at 26 and getting one of them.

Sure wish there was a way to get Jeanty. That would change the whole offense.

The trade back I'm targeting is 40 and 71 with New Orleans. Their GM, Mickey Loomis, is known to like trading up for specific targets.

Thank you DzRams. You are right on the draft thing.

I would like to have 40 & 71 rather than 26 & nothing in the 2nd.

According to PFF's rankings, at (#26) it's a player like (T) Conerly / (CB) Barron / other

vs.

at (#40) (T) Zabel / (LB) Campbell / other & at (#71) (TE) Fannin / (CB) Alexander / other

Then you add (WR) Harris or (RB) Judkins at #90

(T) Crenshaw-Dickson at #100

#126 - ?
#190 - ?
#203 - ?
#204 - ?

I'd love Jeanty but after him, I would say Hampton, Judkins, or K Johnson would be on my list as special backs I'd draft pretty high if the Rams deem it so. High doesn't necessarily mean 1st only but also if we show traded back or if we had a 2nd rd pick.

Judkins is not lasting until pick 90. He's way too good to not be drafted. Could sneak into the 1st but more likely an early to mid 2nd rd pick imo

In a class that's deep at defensive line and running back, there is a chance he goes in that range. I'm guessing late second to mid third.

I fold the "we need to upgrade Kyren" into the "we need more explosiveness on this offense."

I'm agnostic as to where that comes from and market availability (FA, draft) will probably determine where it comes from.

If we can add some explosiveness at RB great, but I'm fine with adding it anywhere on O.

WR, TE, RB, you name it.

Dropping from 26th to 40th is rooooooooooough. I can't see that happening. But stranger things...

Forgot to add that you like the Iowa Hawkeyes don't cha? Lol, but he is a good one tho. Running back class is there for us to improve. Gotta draft like Kyren won't be here next year or last much longer since running backs in the NFL don't necessarily have the longest shelf life. Most brutal position by far to play in the NFL.
Damn I did forget that!!

Here is an out of the box pick.

Nick Emmanwori, a 6-4 225 lb safety, who is a big time playmaker. Could play some LB in passing situations, S, and the Star position.

A playmaker and a thumper. Would bring physicality to the back 7.

Might not even get to 26, but he could be in that 18-28 range.

The guy is a freak and I assume he will climb up the board.

I like him a lot. But I don't think he's a guy who will convert well to ILB. Which is where we'd need him. He's not strong with blockers, or elusive getting by them. Also like that defense btw. Every time I saw them this year they were fun to watch.

Now if the Rams want more in their pairing then I think he has a lot of upside. As a guy who can come down occasionally to fill the box or shadow a QB or man up on a TE or what have you I think he's a strong fit. But they're probably thinking DL & Corner. Then maybe ILB mid to late as well.

Yeah, not a need, but if stuck at 26 and he is there, it could be a case of taking the best talent on the board and you make him fit. It would make Lake expendable at the end of the year. So saves cap space if they don't need to extend him.

Still, as of right now, I would like ILB Jihad Campbell, as he could be the best player that fits a top need. Let's make the defense dominant so you can win some games if Stafford gets hurt or if you get hit with injuries on your offense.

Of course it's still so early in the process.

If the Rams drop down then yeah I could see them take someone like Campbell or Bassa. I probably prefer the latter of the two but it would be nice to see real beast offball backer added. What I'd really like to see if they go defense up top is them go get another stud DT instead, like if Nolan or Grant were to make it to us or near enough to go get them. Seems unlikely but it's still too early to say. Then that front would be so dominant anyone offball is gonna look great.

But honestly it feels to me like replacing Kupp will be the priority. So you're talking the F type TEs at 26 or after a move down maybe a guy like Bech. I think McVay has always required that role to make his offense go, which means it's going to be very high on his list.
