I don’t get it.
He HAS to be doing this just to set up a future HC consideration.
It’s not like he’s gonna be calling plays.

Every McVay assistant and coordinator is up for future HC jobs. What better way to build your resume for a 2nd job than to work for the Rams right now?

He likely could've joined a team this year if he wanted, but the options weren't all that attractive. He will have a bunch of fluff pieces written on him being a big part of the Rams hot 2026 offense and then he'll cash in if a team he likes comes calling.

Thats the part that always gets me. Teams can’t wait to hire a McVay OC despite that person having never called plays for the Rams.

I wonder what these guys say in their interviews that makes teams hire them.

From what I've heard, They don't have to speak at all...other than saying McVay McVay McVay

I don't think the Rams would bring in Jim Schwartz to work with (under) Shula; and, I don't think that would be an arrangement Schwartz would want to pursue.

However, regardless ... I don't believe it could even happen because Schwartz was (is) under contract for 2026.
Schwartz resigned the other day ... which was his right ... but that does Not free him up to pursue an assistant or coordinator job elsewhere.

Jim Schwartz does not Have to coach in 2026 ... but if he wants to coach (other than being a head coach), Cleveland would Have to OK it. They may not be willing to do that.

Schwartz like Tomlin can't coach this year in any way shape or form because they're still under contract.
I wish I had read this before I posted above.

Don't you guys pay any attention to me! Listen to Old-School ...

It's a matter of being around him and learning from him in meetings and game scenarios. Teams are hoping these guys can process what McVay teaches them and put it to use in their own time on the sidelines and in meetings.

I do believe these OC's, without actually calling the plays, do have an influence on what McVay calls in some situations. He needs that "angel" on his shoulder sometimes. With Kingsbury especially I never ever want to see the Rams fail with the game on the line or any other time that close in the red zone on 4 tries.
