blaming his center? yikes. goff gets hall passes left and right by some.

i'd make a friendly wager to donate to a charity about him having a great season. we select parameters and winner picks charity.
Haha. Agree. Goff will flop.

No thanks. I don't need bets to donate to charities. I'm not trying to win anything either. I'll leave that to the likes of you.

is austin blythe his center? then yes, this could happen.

but seeing blythe is nowhere near him and he actually has some good wrs to throw to this season i believe he will have a great season and the lions will back him as their qb.

Goff has proved he can be an NFL starter, that cannot be questioned. But he's not good enough to win a super bowl and if you're a franchise you can't stop looking to upgrade the QB position to someone that is elite and can win the big game. Thats all that matters really. Not is this guy "good" or can we make the playoffs maybe. But can he consistently out-duel the best QBs in the league when it matters to win a super bowl.

This is what Goff lovers dont seem to grasp. Is he 9- win good? Maybe. Is he 10 win good? Possibly. Is he carry you to Super Bowl WIN good? Not likely. Well, those who disagree CAN take it up with one Sean McVay if they prefer....

I thought the interview was all right. I always liked Goff as a person, and wish him the best.

The interview was a bit tame by Pivot standards. I would have like a bit more insight into the breakdown in the McVay and Goff relationship, but I think we’ve probably heard all we’re going to hear on that anyway.

There aren't many qbs that can do what Stafford did in the playoffs last season. That's why mcvay wanted him. He obviously felt goff wasn't gonna be that guy right now and jumped at the chance to upgrade.

The Lions just need a competent qb right now to steady the ship and let the defense catch up. They obviously think Goff can help them otherwise they wouldn't have upgraded their receiving corps this season.

It's all up to him now. If he doesn't perform well this season he will be a back up in the league. But he seems to be going alright at camp from the blurbs I've seen and the deep ball is back in his arsenal apparently. We'll find out soon enough.

My hope? Detroit wins the NFC North, thus taking the Rams travelling to Green Bay in January out of the equation.

Do I hope that Detroit wins the North. If we don't make it, I hope they do; Lions fans have suffered enough, and they were in our corner during our run. There's enough guys I like on the Lions as well, not even including Goff (Michael Brockers, anyone?), so it would be easy to root for them.

No I understand what you're saying and I agree. Goff is the type of QB that can help pull them out of the basement and maybe make the playoffs in a year or two. But he is not good enough to win a super bowl. He doesn't see the field well enough, and he struggles to maintain accuracy and make big plays with pressure around him in the pocket. There is no way we win the super bowl last year with Goff at QB you are 100% correct.

But the question for the Lions and maybe 15 other teams in the NFL is, if you dont feel your current QB can win the super bowl, when do you try to upgrade and find someone who can? Being complacent with just making the playoffs or maybe winning the wild card round doesn't do you any good. Because when you reach the conference championships or the super bowl, you will likely be going against Mahomes, Allen, Brady, Stafford, Burrow, Herbert, or Wilson (the elite qb tier IMO). Or maybe a qb from the tier below that had a great year: Kyler, Watson, Lamar, Carr, Matt Ryan. With all the draft capital the Lions have, if they dont think Goff can win the super bowl they have to draft someone.

Goff is Detroit's "bridge" til they find their next Quarterback. There's no shame in that.

I'll never forget Lion fans for this during the Championship Game/Super Bowl gap.

These are all reasonable takes on Goff.

Is he good enough to win a Super Bowl? I think with the right group of players around him ... sure.

Look at some of the QBs that have won Super Bowls. Some were just adequate. Phil Simms anyone?

Nick Foles won a Super Bowl. Goff is better than Nick Foles.

However, is he going to take that team to the next level without the right group of players around him? Super Bowl - no.

Playoffs - maybe.

There aren't too many QBs out there that can do that.

Blythe was so bad that McVay had to change his game plans for Goff because he knew Goff was no good with pressure up the middle. I have stated that over and over again that Goff is not a good QB when it comes to pressure up the middle.

Detroit has an all-pro center back this year after being hurt for the majority of last season.

I think Goff will have a good season this year. Great? Not a good enough team to have a great season.

I'm a Goff fan but this is definitely true. It's highly unlikely Goff stands tall and delivers a strike to Kupp with Suh about to run his ass over on the last play to seal the field goal win against the Bucs. Goff is a tough kid but we all know he has had issues with pressure in his face. Goff is a good QB who can win with solid protection. Stafford is a QB who can win no matter what is thrown at him.

There's very, very few QBs that have ever played the game that could do what Stafford did in three straight games to win the Super Bowl. I'm honestly a bit annoyed that it doesn't get talked about more since the Super Bowl. It was legendary and while the three straight games against Bucs, Whiners, and Bengals may not have been the most eye popping statistically I'd put his performance in the clutch up there as one of the greatest playoff performances by a QB ever.
