What big names “load” this roster? Matthew Stafford, Puca Nacua, and now Verse? Of those three, Matty is the only one we brought in.

Bringing in a guy that is likely at the end of his career to play in a unit that everyone acknowledges is likely a weak spot on the team is loading because he has a name? It’s not like we are brining in a bunch of veterans to take key spots that could be filled by clear rising stars.

I don’t get that at all.
I didn't say that the have a loaded roster of big names. I said that they don't need to have one to succeed and all holes filled. There's a difference.

BTW, you forgot about DaVante Adams.

Yeah I went back and edited the post. I think OTC is showing a post June trade each year of the contract and how it would immediately impact the cap as opposed to how it would influence the entire contract. Which makes much more sense. Are you think the dolphins will just have to outright cut him then? They've mentioned that they need to move on from him.
I dont see how they can cut him if the info posted is correct. Would be a 49 mill dead cap hit either upfront or over 25/26.
I suppose if Miami absolutely needs to part ways, they trade him and eat 6-8 mill of his '25 pay, they'd basically net even on the cap and then take a <gulp> 18 mill dead cap hit next year. The team that trades for him would inherit a whopper of a contract that hopefully he would renegotiate to a more team friendly deal. I love Ramsey and would love for him to be a Ram, but not at 20 million.

He probably cares too much about the money. That would be my one knock on him. He’s a team player but I am not sure it’s team first.

If he would sign a 4 year deal, front loaded, relatively cheap, but containing relatively easy to acquire bonuses, then he could be our no 1 CB now, and our pro-bowl safety of the future.

How much does he love playing and how long does he want to play for? He is not having a hall of fame career, so if that matters to him, he needs at least one more ring and some big years ahead

He's already got a contract, that's the thing, he hasnt even started playing on the extension he signed last year.
Wanting to be paid for that contract isnt greedy, he'd be nuts to give it up.
He's no more about money than any other player in the league

Agreed. But if Miami trade him they will be on the hook. For how much depends on whether he would agree to new terms with his new team. If he would then anything is possible

Post June 1 only pushes 18 mill of dead cap to '26, the issue is still the same. Trading Ramsey results in a 29 mill dead cap hit *provided* the team who trades for him picks up the remaining tab on Ramsey's $$ (Which appears to be around 18-20 mill)
Does that 18-20 take into account that the Dolphins would have paid the pro-rated bonus in the dead money amount? The new team wouldn't be paying the prorated amount.

Of course it's still a large hit on Miami's cap.

It's in the details of the contract that we dont see. If he's cut the dead cap hit is 49 mill, if traded its 29 mill. Prior to June 1 or not. So there is a 20 mill guarantee in there somewhere. Difference being the acquiring team is absorbing that 20.

The acquiring team likely wouldnt re-negotiate a new contract until after the season, it would be crazy to do so. After 2025, there is little guaranteed money left so you would wait and see how he played, having the option to cut a player is the ultimate in negotiating.

You talk as though Ramsey’s game will possibly nose dive off a cliff. I am saying it will not because he is someone who can switch to safety where he would likely be great. Like I said, would he take an incentive laden deal? I think the brinks truck is relevant because I am not sure he would. IMO it would be best for the Rams, if he was willing to negotiate a team friendly long term contract in a similar way to Aeneas Williams

Did you quote the right person?
I didn’t say a word about his play. He’s not an 18-20 mill per year player is all I’ve said. And I’m a huge fan of his.
Ramsey has a 3 year contract extension which starts next year, with very little guaranteed. So whoever trades for him has no reason to talk contract.

Please have Kendrick be in that trade somehow. I'd take Ramsey over DK a million times. Ramsey could be a 100-year-old, and I'd still take him over Kendrick.

Here's the full Breer exchange:

From DefendTheDen (@Vretz2121): Rams the favorite landing spot for Ramsey? Player and team preference? Especially given the Rams didn't draft or use UDFA to add a CB?

Defend, I think the Los Angeles Rams would love to have him. The money is the issue for the Rams and any other potential suitor, and the Miami Dolphins who are trying to move him as well. He’s due $25.1 million this year, and all but $865,000 of it is fully guaranteed. At this point of the offseason, very few teams have the cash in the budget or room on the cap to take that salary on. In a special circumstance, you might make it work. But as good as Ramsey still is, I don’t know that there are many teams that would look at acquiring him in that way.

So, at that point, you’d be looking for the Dolphins to take on a chunk of the money to essentially “buy” a draft pick as part of the deal to offload Ramsey and his guarantees.

I think a deal with the Rams would probably require that. And I wouldn’t be against it for them, either. I think Ramsey can still play corner and could have a second life as an NFL player, a la Rod Woodson, as a safety down the line.
