But notice they have not inked him and in fact things don't look good.
Actually, they have inked him to a 1 year, fully guaranteed deal at 33 mill, he just hasnt signed it....
He's not going anywhere this year, he'll likely play on the tag and possibly present Baltimore with a bigger issue next year. Ravens havent done squat for QB if he is gone, and if OBJ actually signs with them LJ will have at least 1 WR weapon to play with

This isn’t a debate about what he’s wanting to be paid which is stupid asf it’s more about he’s not the cliche ‘running QB’ or ‘Krapondick’ that a lot make him out to be. He’s a pretty decent QB and the numbers prove that.
I don't see how it's not about that. The title of the thread is he requests trade and that happened because the team hasn't ponied up the bucks for him.

Do you think if he is Rodgers of years back they play this game with him. Teams are certainly guilty of doing stupid shit but overall they know his weaknesses. Otherwise this would be done. He'd be inked by someone and traded for two picks or the Ravens would match. Guys who play on that tag do so because the market is unsure about the value of the player. It's all connected.

But anyway. Going back to this thread it sounds like I have a bone to pick with the guy and I don't really. I just think he's been overrated as fuck since his MVP season. So gonna quit saying the same shit over and over. I honestly don't give a flying fuck about him and time will take care of where he slots.

I just hope the Niners who are rumored to be interested in Rodgers don't sign Jackson. In terms of being a QB Jackson is everything Murray isn't. If they give them 2 firsts and Purdy that might do it. The problem is Jackson's salary demands are foolish in the extreme. It basically makes him almost untradeable. Teams only have to look at how AZ is hamstrung to see the folly in it.

The only way I see a "fully" guaranteed contract is to build-in clauses that reduce that "guarantee" protecting the team against long term injury or early retirement or make it incentive based, basically saying prove you are worth it. But blanket guaranteed contracts are stupid if your a team.

I can think of over 10 QBs I would want before Jackson. Stafford is one of them

The NFL has got to fix this looming problem / reality. Thank you KC and Mahomes for agreeing until 2031.

NFL Exec: Patrick Mahomes Would Get Fully Guaranteed Offers in Lamar Jackson's Shoes

While it appears to be a major hurdle for free-agent quarterback Lamar Jackson, a fully guaranteed deal wouldn't get in the way of Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes' finding a team in the eyes of one NFL executive.

"If Patrick Mahomes were in Lamar's shoes, he would have 30 offer sheets, all guaranteed," the executive said to The Athletic's Mike Sando.

Despite being the 2019 MVP and a two-time Pro Bowler in the prime of his career, Jackson remains unsigned. He has yet to agree to an offer from another team or sign the non-exclusive franchise tender the Baltimore Ravens applied to him.

Even more surprising is the lack of interest around the league.

Jackson's contract demands seem to be one hang-up.

Deshaun Watson remains an exception after signing a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed extension with the Cleveland Browns.

Barring a change to the collective bargaining agreement, guaranteed deals will almost certainly never be the norm in the NFL. Were Jackson to get one at market value from the Ravens or another team, though, more quarterbacks and perhaps more players at other positions will feel empowered to make that demand.

That has led some to wonder whether NFL owners are—if not outright colluding—independently coming to the conclusion they don't want to set a new precedent in the league.

Pointing to a hypothetical contract for Mahomes doesn't really disprove that theory.

For one, the 27-year-old is an anomaly. He's on pace to be the most prolific passer ever, and he almost operates as a cheat code in the way his presence has helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls and another AFC title in the last four seasons.

In addition, it wasn't that long ago that Mahomes got his record-setting extension from Kansas City, and only $63.1 million of the $450 million total was fully guaranteed at signing.

Watson unquestionably altered the financial landscape for quarterbacks, so Mahomes' contract would assuredly look different if he agreed to it today. Would it be hundreds-of-millions-in-guarantees different?

We won't know for a long time because Mahomes is under contract through 2031.

It's exactly about that. The thread title? Lol. There seems to be universal agreement that his contract demands are ludicrous, the discussion outside of that is about his ability. His injury history is what makes his fully guaranteed talk laughable. The idea that he doesnt deserve top $$ over his play? That's also laughable. If one could pencil Lamar in for 16-17 games a year for the next 3-4 years, he's absolutely worth his ask, and teams would be lining up to deal for him.
Daniel Jones inked a 4 year 160 mill deal, if he's "worth" that, Jackson is worth double (based on skill level)

Jones wasn't worth what he was paid either.

I think this is a time of QB largesse, and teams will at some point get tired of crippling themselves by committing too much of their cap resources to them. And whichever team pays him will regret it. The fact some other team did it too doesn't make it ok.

Lamar Jackson is a legit, good QB. His contract demands are the problem. Without those, any team would take a shot at him.

The way it will get fixed is teams will keep paying them more and more until some team wins with a different model. Then it will trend the other direction.

Jackson’s QBR average is 60. The last three years it was 67, 50, and 59. Is it likely to go back up to his 83 QBR form his MVP season?

He’s only thrown for over 3,000 yards once and that was barely over, at 3,127 yards in his MVP season.

His average yards per pass is 7.4

He missed 6 games in each of the last two years.

Is he still MVP caliber? No.
He should have accepted the Ravens offer. 5 years with $200 million of it guaranteed. It’s a better deal than Wilson’s or Murray’s ridiculous deals. If the owners are colluding, then I’m glad they are.

49ers.

Maybe more teams should copy them. However there aren’t that many YAC players to go around.

The Ravens did it with defense and Flacco, but it seems those days are gone.

The only way it’s likely to happen is if in the next few years there was a surplus of good NFL QBs. But that’s not likely to happen when each draft only has 1-2 QBs considered top ten picks.

Hard to say they are worth copying being Lance's Cap hit this year is 9.3 mill and Darnold is 3.8 mill, and then next year Lance will be an 11 mill hit. So while they may have struck gold with Purdy, (although we'll see how well he fares after the injury) they are still dumping a ton of $$ in to the QB position, not to mention the draft capital they spent

In comparison to the rest of the league they weren’t overpaying Jimmy Garapolo. That system doesn’t really need an All Pro QB, which was my main point. Copy the offense.

The contract and money isn’t the issue, the part that he wants it fully guaranteed is. Hence the Jackson wants to be traded because he thinks the Ravens are treating him unfairly and thinks somebody else will give him a fully guaranteed contract. That is literally the ONLY issue.

The reason that hasn’t happened is the market is flooded with QB’s at this point. As supply and demand dictates these other QB needy teams that have no chance at the top 4 QB’s find a stop gap QB and most are in cap hell and couldn’t afford a contract for Jackson anyways.

I’d be very curious if he wasn’t an idiot and wanted fully guaranteed money in his contract if anybody would bite? We’ll never know because the Ravens would of had him already signed.

@Merlin But anyway. Going back to this thread it sounds like I have a bone to pick with the guy and I don't really. I just think he's been overrated as fuck since his MVP season. I don’t consider him a top 5 QB either but the notional ideas some give Jackson is just downright Ludacris and inaccurate.

On a Moving the Chains segment Pat Kirwan said that Baltimore's last offer was 6 years $290M with $175M guaranteed.

For reference Josh Allen's deal was 6 years $258M with $150M guaranteed.

So you have a QB with a ridiculously inflated opinion of himself, his game, and what he should be paid. A QB who is not among the elites of this game in spite of the fact he put up an MVP season years ago. A QB who has routinely exited the playoffs even during his peak season. And a QB who is dependent on running the ball, which affects both shelf life expectations as well as playoff potency in terms of him being able to survive when he encounters a top defense.

Chalk all that up and it's a fucking train wreck. IMO.

Do you think many of them (regardless of position) fall into the trap of thinking what they did on their rookie deal should be covered in the new contract retroactively? When in reality, what they did on their rookie deal proved what they may be worth going forward.

I'm sorry but at $133M his yearly average would be more than Mahomes and he's not better....not even close. Hell I'd take Goff in a heart beat over Jackson. Yeah he's legit but his attitude sucks and that kind of thing is like a virus it spreads. It's why the minute Ramsey started to show that virus Snead got him out of the locker room. That is the real reason the Rams took a loss in getting rid of Ramsey. It's the reason they are so willing to move A. Rob. Jefferson is as good and more versatile.

Woody got moved when he started to bitch about targets. Sorry Woody but Kupp is better.
