Not crippling their franchise for 5 years by signing a JAG QB to a fully guaranteed contract?
I get that, but crippling their team by playing a JAG QB is any better?
Not saying I'd sign Lamar either, but I would have upgraded the backup spot in the meantime

Ravens' last 5 seasons:

2018: 10-6 Lost Wildcard
2019: 14-2 Lost Divisional (Jackson won MVP)
2020: 11-5 Lost Divisional
2021: 8-9
2022: 10-7 Lost Wildcard

Jackson's best season, when his legs were young and fresh, he led them to 14 wins, won the MVP, and got dropped in the divisional round. That was his ceiling IMO. Just like a RB he was at his best when he was at his athletic peak.

Paying him now would be stupid. Because he has not transitioned into pocket survival and reading and seeing and anticipating. He's still executing schemed big plays and using his run threat to survive.

But the universal truth in the NFL is some team will be stupid. The Ravens will get some picks for him and move on by drafting his replacement and might even get a higher ceiling in the exchange after a year or so. And the team that trades for him will be stuck with a grossly overpaid RB who can throw the ball.

Jackson is being an idiot.

He needs to take less guaranteed money. Dude is averaging around 160 rushing attempts a year. That is not sustainable. Teams are not being racist or greedy, they are being practical.

He needs to swallow his ego, follow the Mahomes and Allen example and take less guaranteed money. Need space for surrounding talent. You will win more and make up the difference in enforcements.

Somebody might fall in love with dreams of replicating Lamar Jackson’s INSANE 2019 season…

But the money, the injury risk, the fact he’s older and getting older… Unless someone like Indy, Washington, or Atlanta caves… I wonder if he overplayed his hand.

The 2019 version of Lamar was amazing, but is it is looking a little bit like a unicorn season.

Who could they have picked up that could run the offense? It sounded like they were going to make a deal but one side is holding the team hostage. Its hard to tell who at this point since everything is second hand info.

I always thought of Huntley as like a lesser version of Jackson and he can run the same offensive that they tooled for Jackson anyways. Maybe not well but I figure that's why he's a backup.

I think Jackson has some crazy skills, but for some reason I don't think of him as a top QB in the league. I don't think he could have led us to our last Super Bowl like Stafford did.....
His main value is what he can do with his legs. The problem with that is the risk that comes with running so much. He hasn't been able to finish the last two seasons. Kinda hard to make a deep playoff run with a backup. They missed the playoffs the previous season.

What about Atlanta? If they sign him they could win the Super Bowl this year or next.

Lamar Jackson and his agent are dreaming. He’s not getting the contract that he wants from anyone, unless they are nuts.

Lamar Jackson IMO isn’t worth the risk.Sometimes it doesn’t make sense. Even with The Rams & Stafford or Goff you have to weigh what’s best for the organization.

Jackson is a better passer than he’s given credit. There are some great throws in that one game.
Like the post below & Lamar says it wasn’t about the contract makes me wonder how much he wants to be out there with his guys as he says.
He wants most of The Cap Money, making it harder to keep any of his So Called Guys! I not the contract person that knows about real live money or dead money. —Stan has payed Ram Players & the CAP is not an issue from paying over the regular cost of business.
I know about RG111 & Shanahan RUINED RG111’s career against the Hags!! He played hurt & made it(knee) worse.A NFL career can be over like that.
I would have never paid Todd Gurley that extension.Goff either.Stafford’s $59 million straps The Rams 2023(AD99).
—Ram Fans will see how ME & WE work together.DraftKings shows how in the Big Pool of NFL players ,structuring is not always easy when you want The Best Player(s).
If anyone brings up RACE ,is silly!! The Ravens talked about Love4Lamar.
—IMO though he needed to at least give it a go to WIN!Then again CGI is he really that good of a passer that he can stay in the pocket & not run a lot of the time?

Look I get the argument that teams don't want to pay him what he wants but if people actually watch the dude play, he's a generational talent, not just a great runner but a very good passer and the Ravens have hamstrung him with no WRs for his entire career.
When he sees where the throw is he's fine. It's the reading and determining where he needs to improve in his passing.

Ravens have coddled him to some extent with a lot of schemed throws. Every team does it of course. But his big plays are often him staring down a receiver when they get a look they want and he often puts that ball on the money.

But once you get into the playoffs with the top defenses and they're taking shit away the QB has to be on par with the mind games and be able to adjust and anticipate and those things are where he struggles IMO. They have not mattered at all in the playoffs in part due to this.

Shhhh you’re ruining the brainless stigma people who don’t watch other teams! He only runs the ball and throws it twice a game! :laugh4:

@Merlin posted his post season team results. Those were not just good teams as someone else said, Baltimore has been pretty well loaded in terms of their roster while having LJ at QB.

I’d say they’re an elite passer from winning a Super Bowl or two in the last several years. Jackson ain’t it IMO.

If you watch that video clip a few posts above, he's locking onto his primary on a number of those throws. Almost no head movement to manipulate the defense.
